    Dobermans are really nice tempered dogs generally, but they are very protective of their own family. If I didn't have little kids then I would have a dobie, they're beautiful dogs too.

    I don't know why you'd ever need to... if you can't train a lurcher to chase quarry then you must be a daft c**t, the hardest part is getting them to deliver it to you. Start young with the recall and retrieve and you should have no problem. ATB

    I give my lurcher frozen chicken legs about once a month. It's not laziness, on the contrary, because I like to stay with her while she eats them so it takes longer to eat a frozen leg. The reason I give her them frozen is purely that in my mind, there would be less harmful bacteria in a frozen leg than a defrosted one, I know that there is probably the same amount of bacteria but it just seems safer.

    Five months should have no problem. I'll add a little qualifying statement below, but I've fed raw meat to younger dogs without there being a problem if it's part of a balenced diet . I feed raw meat and bones to my lurchers but do so with an understanding that this carries a number of risks to both the dogs and humans that come into contact with them, there are 3 main points; 1 The types and amounts of bacteria associated with pet quality meat will result in the dog itself and it daily surroundings carrying a risk of dangerous cross infection to people in general but especially children

She's 22 weeks now and stands 20" tts. I don't know how much more she will grow, hopefully she still has a couple more inches in her. I'll try and get a more recent pic of her for here.

    Make her sit stay in your house and just leave her there while you do your housework or while you watch telly. Every time she moves, just correct her and put her back where she was. Make sure that after the session you use a release word like 'go on' or 'break' Start of with 2-3 minute sessions and build it up gradually over a few weeks until she sits without moving for 15-20 minutes. Then repeat in your garden, out the front, etc. etc. until she knows that she has to stay until you tell her.     To her down there yesterday, the bloody sheep are a bit too tame. I walked through them a couple of times and she was pretty calm so I sat on the grass with her. Before I knew it we were surrounded by about 40 Shetland sheep. She was good as gold but I had to force my way through them to get out. A couple were trying to butt me but I stamped on the ground and they foxtrot oscared. It was good for her but I was a little bit worried for a bit, I didn't fancy being trampled into the ground by poxy sheep!

    Yeah my dog chases sheep. It's a real pain in the arse to be honest. I'm going to keep walking her through them and correct her even if her ears prick up. I want her to be completely relaxed around all livestock. BTW pinnacle, what is an 'Air collar'? I've never heard of one, is it like a shock collar or something?

    This is excellent advice. When I was a lad, I had a CollieX rescued, he had been abandoned and weighed about 14lbs when he was found by the motorway. When we took him home he would get frightened of anything, from a gunshot in the far off distance to kids playing football, even a fly buzzing at the window would spook him.     Is my pup too young to start on some raw chicken wings? 5 months???? Bought some the other day and dumped them in the freezer as her baby canines are just falling out. I'll probably start giving her a couple a week and see how she gets on.

    Cheers bud That's a good idea about tying a cord to the dummy, I'll give it a go. I've got one more question, I have bought a load of chicken wings for her, but she still has half of her baby teeth, should I wait until they are all out before giving her raw meaty bones or will she be ok?

    Thanks Scotty, I appreciate the comments. I'll try her with the livestock on the lead from now on. Yeah, the recall isn't perfect at the moment, she comes most of the time but there is always times when she is more interested in sniffing at something, I try not to call her then, so that I'm not training her to ignore me, but I don't know how to snap her out of it. She always comes if I call her when I'm walking away from her, this is how I manage to get her to stop chasing the sheep. Maybe I need to use that somehow. It's weird because it's not like I try and make her retrieve all the time,

    Hi, I've been reading articles on this site for some time, so I thought it would be wise to join and ask some questions of the many knowledgable posters here. I've got a 5 month old lurcher pup, that I'm looking to train to catch rabbit, I think her parents were both grey x bedlingtons but I don't know for sure. I'm a complete newcomer to any form of hunting so any advise would be welcome. She is good as gold on the lead and usually comes when called, but I'm still perfecting that.
