  1. To be honest Morton he did everything, but was used more on fox than anything else. It was quite a pain really he loved to kill things that fought back so much that I think he thought rabbits were below him and when he caught them he'd kill them and spit them out where as he was usually a great retrieving dog
  2. And I never said collie greyhounds excell on things that bite back, I said dogs with collie in the mix
  3. This is deerhound/ collie/ greyhound I owned, Long dead now but he was ruthless on fox
  4. I've seen many a saluki cross that was good at the game they were bred for and owned by big money match men, and even they admitted fox was not their forte, personally I'm not a fan of the straight collie crosses but I have seen a good few dogs excel on fox that had collie in their makeup
  5. I'll blame your saluki soft spot on working nights, get some sleep, hopefully you'll forget about them funny eared things in the morning
  6. Shaddy once you wrote saluki greyhound in the mix might benefit a deerhound cross you lost all credibility, how can you say on one post a collie cross isn't likely to do teeth but then mention a saluki cross, have a good look at yer self in a mirror and punch yourself and never say that dirty saluki word again!!
  7. I took Daniel cains advise ordered grade 1 hiax boots £37 I think with postage came two days later, they look in good nik and if they last a year or two I'll be very happy. I ordered size 9 and their a bit big, but nothing another pair of socks won't sort out.
  8. Can I just add this for anybody reading this thinking they'd do the same, I'm sure mik knew the area well but things could of gone so wrong, I've done it once for my daughter and it was scary but for a dog- no chance, it's not worth it fellas, miks lad may of been gutted if he lost the dog but I bet he and the rest of his family and friends would of been devastated if mik had lost his life. We put our dogs in danger wether they be terriers, lurchers, gun dogs or sheep dogs and that is why we should treat them like kings but to put your life in danger is a big no no. Dogs can be replaced a fami
  9. My uncles just had a heart attack and as he's not fit to drive has give me the job of finding him some point of lay hens to replenish his ageing stock, nothing fancy just good layers like warreners, he doesn't want any much younger as he doesn't want to be messing around with keeping them in and such, so he lives in Runcorn and is after about 20, I'll have to pick them up and drop them off so around that area would be great, so basically does any one know where and how much.. Cheers
  10. Gotta say well done, but when I seen your videos of him retrieving geese whilst being impressed I couldn't help thinking he's not the right dog for the job in hand. The problem with terriers is their a big dog in a little dogs body, glad he's ok
  11. The bitch I've got now and the father to her where fuckers for breaking toes ( both heavy dogs with a heavy running style, running on bad ground occasionally ). If I would of amputated toes they'd be running on their wrists, leave it to heal for a few weeks then only run on soft ground for a bit, see how that works.
  12. Cheers pointer nice to know from someone with first hand experience
  13. I was speaking to a gun dog trainer the other week about gwp's, he was saying although with no great conviction their seems to be 2 types, one highly strung which are prone to fighting and another more laid back type, but would the laid back type be willing to tackle a fox? Or more to the point is the highly strung dog capable, one thing I've noticed is many dogs prone to fighting are big shit houses when it comes to anything that bites back.
  14. I see what your saying but as a shooting falconry dog do they not wander round scenting and only stop on point when theirs something there, what id be after on the shooting part is something that will sit their whilst I'm in a hide an retrieve anything I manage to shoot, does a pointer have the patience to sit their like a lab would? And I'm not trying to start an argument I'm just after info. As far as crossing to a coursing dog, theirs not a chance in this world I'd consider anything with saluki blood and the way it's going everyone seems to want to throw a coursing dog over anything thinkin
  15. This is definitely a cross I've been mulling over, but as it's mostly pigeon shooting I do I'm not sure they'd be suitable to sit their whilst on the job. So a dog that will sit their whilst pigeon shooting, accompany the terriers on digging days, lamping rabbits and the odd ferreting expedition is what's needed, is that to much to ask from such a cross? I've got the lurcher bitch but lack the knowledge on pointers and their ways to make the leap, the more I think of it in fact the less suitable I think this dog maybe as I havnt got the mass expanses of moors to work over that I think this typ
  16. Tell us a bit about that dog of yours four track, this cross is something that's interesting me, I'm doing a fair bit of shooting lately so rather than get a gun dog something that could be dual purpose sounds good
  17. Well that article wasn't quite the great advertisement it should of been, tales of badger baiting terriers and an all to brief mention of the fell and moorland club, sounds like the fella was a right ungrateful c**t!!
  18. Why hasn't a collar like the bellman and flint one for terriers been devised ( I have now got the patent on it cause I mentioned it first), that way the box wether it be a bellman box or one of the many avalance transceivers can be used for both terriers and ferrets making it cheaper still!!!
  19. And to add to that list dilly dog, (although I may of mentioned this before) I am told by someone who dug with Middleton many moons ago that welsh terrier was added to his blood so that may of passed on to some of goulds stuff and the roundabout continues to spin. $500 dollars, what's that in pounds about £250? Not that much if you look at what's on preloved and other sites. If you want a pure buy a pure, but you won't get that with proper working terriers! Even many Russell's are just mongrelised dogs that happen to be white.
  20. A little up date, I had to add the pectin enzyme as it wasn't clearing and within three days it's started to clear a treat, going to give it another few weeks to settle and then bottle it. I might throw some sugar in the bottles to give it a fizz, anyone done that.
  21. He was naked in that picture he took it of because he never got as many likes as he wanted
  22. To anyone who's had this cross, would it be possible to train as a gun dog yet still do the job required of a lurcher?
  23. French bulldog!! Anything else is just for the coin
