I lost my Czech GSD male on May 12 to Lymphoma, he would have been ten in August. I bought him direct from Jiri Novotny in Czech Republic, in fact his son Petr delivered him to Dublin personally. My old dog was one in a lifetime, soppy with the family, a great guard, easy to train, tracking, protection work & obedience, he loved them all. He never saw a vet in his life, didn't even have to clip his nails ! God I miss him.

The leader of the council has just resigned, big deal. The pakis should never have been let in , in the numbers they were.

The wife was sat next to some old chap in the doctors this morning, he said he moved here from Lancashire. He couldn't believe you could walk in to a doctor without making an appointment, he said it took him ages to see a doctor in England. He said where he used to live was full of Pakistani's , none here in West Cork. I would just add, if you don't have a medical card here , it can cost around €60 to see a doctor & then you pay for the drugs, no NHS.

We moved to West Cork in 1986, bought an old farmhouse on 5 acres for 10,500 punts. Did the full self sufficiency bit & reared two sons. You have definitely missed the real old Ireland, our old neighbours are long dead, honest & straight, lovely friendly. welcoming people. I've only been back to England four times , the traffic & crowds are the things I noticed. If you were to move into a quiet area then there isn't the crime you might have in England. Work, even part time, is hard to come by. The country is broke, unless you are a politician, who are all crooks to

I've just given up watching the BBC The Dambusters: 70 years on. The stupid questions Dan Snow was asking Johnnie Johnson, "What does it mean to be here?" How about asking whether the 53 blokes killed would think it was worth it with the state of the country today. Dan Snow isn't a patch on his father.

I planted japanese knotweed in mine, grows really fast, but can take over. Otherwise I piled up dead twiggy branches into random clumps.

We only have two. They don't go in to roost at dusk like hens, & just drop the eggs where they happen to be. We have a plastic bath for them & it's not unusual to find eggs in there.

Chiltern's if you want eggs, they hardly miss a day. Don't underestimate the mess ducks make. We have ours in a run of 50 metres of poultry mesh, & the mud bath they make is something else. On a small scale you may be better keeping them on concrete or a gravel area. A small dog type kennel is fine to lock them in at night.

It isn't that Rotties are prone to parvo but the mother's immunity that is passed th the pups can last longer than other breeds, so if they are vaccinated before it wears off they are left unprotected. We always give ours another parvo jab, touch wood it's always worked but I have heard of cases of dogs getting parvo that had been vaccinated young.

She died this afternoon, she was getting steadily weaker for the past few days, I was giving her a couple of cc's of liquid soup every two hours but no good. I guess it was viral as the antibiotics did no good. Completely gutted.

I have a young jill that was off her food for a few days, she seemed bright enough in herself, then I noticed she was breathing heavily, took her into my vet & he said it was in her chest alright. he gave her two injections & two antibiotics to give her . One is Betamox, which is Ampicillin, a form of pencillin. She is getting worse & has stopped eating so I am giving her a couple of cc's of a chicken, honey & egg yolk soup every few hours. I know if it was flu it is viral & antibiotics would only work for any secondary infections. I read in Brian Plummer's Ferrets, he says

I bought a brand new mk3 & straight out of the box it would't work on search , only locate. Sent it back & the magnetic reed switch was faulty, works okay now. Batteries are 394.

The rot had started long before that idiot Blair. I came from Southampton & in the mid seventies the Bangladeshi's moved in by the score, I imagine the same was happening in places like Southall. As I understand it was down to the Commonwealth Act which allowed them all to flood in, they figured at the time no-one would want to come to England, wrong. We left in 1986 & I was working in Wimbledon at the time, from there back through to Balham, Tooting & heading into London it was all Asian, what it's like now I can only imagine. I hate to say it but I think theres no going back no

I found it difficult to start with so I gave them a small saucer of milk while I put the collar on.
