  1. Does anyone have any experience of this model of the Deerhunter range? The trousers seem a good price for Deertex. Are they quiet enough to use for stalking?
  2. Cheers for the advice Baldie. Spot on as always. I stood the base of the mod in wd40 overnight and took it round to a mates today. He popped it in the vice and opened it in double quick time. We put a smear of copper grease on the threads so hopefully won't happen again. Just debating now whether to clean the fouling from the inner tube or leave it? Does a bit of fouling improve the effectivness of the mod or did I just make that up
  3. Thanks for the prompt response Baldie. Any suggestions as to a heat source?
  4. Just how strippable is the T12? I have recently acquired a s/s model and still have the option of returning it if I'm not happy (it's pre-owned). I'm loath to give it the nod before I'm entirely happy, and had been led to believe that they are strippable for cleaning. I did initially think that it was a case of unscrewing the outer case from the inner and that the knurled section at the base of the mod was for this purpose. Several attempts later, notings moving. What am I doing wrong or has the mod 'seized' in some way? Cheers Novice
  5. Can anyone advise the best way to accurately measure the diamter of my rifle barrel? Need to pass some info on for the fitting of a moderator bush. Cheers, Novice
  6. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7199963.stm What do people think about the above story? So called wildlife 'experts' getting their deer id wrong, or are Munties really that far north
  7. It's a crying shame if the fish population was completely wiped out by overfishing Wonder if there were other factors like commercial fishing or environmental changes? Wouldn't mind latching onto something like that myself!!
  8. Item number: 290197670467 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mega-Rare-1930s-1950...1QQcmdZViewItem Check out the above on ebay. Is it a wind up, or could you really catch tuna of that size of the North East coast in the last century
  9. Cheers for the response Baldie. Sound advice as always
  10. The salmon is an absolute cracker I'm guessing its a springer. Any further info re river, fly, tackle set up, time of year????
  11. Hi all, Can anyone tell me if there are any disadvantages (or out and out danger ) to fitting a mod rated for .30 calibres to a .243? I have the chance of a used PES mod, but its rated for .30 cals and I shoot a .243 Cheers, Novice
  12. I'm looking for some mounts for my Tikka 595 in .243. Is there something unique about the Tikka scope rail, or will any decent mount to fit a 9-11mm rail do the job?
  13. Was that at the bottom of the wall where the rippers get their fish by any chance Hahaha, were you watching Do they still do it nowadays?I got approx 130 fish out of the Wear one weekend, two of us working a tandem of nets, long time ago mate I can well believe it. They don't half stack up in the pot below that wall. The rippers are still at it, although there is a £1500 fine for fishing off the top of the wall EA lads don't seem too keen to front up and tackle people about it. There is a lot of fish come out of that stretch each season, a lot of them after dark
  14. What acreage are you shooting over for that price mate?
  15. Was that at the bottom of the wall where the rippers get their fish by any chance
  16. Cheers for the comments Baldie. If I were t obuy second-hand, what should I be looking out for to make sure I don't get shafted Do certain makes suffer from corrosion worse than others? How much should I be looking to pay?
  17. Cheers Phil. I was wondering whether they were pushing it a bit, claiming it is suitable for a .243. I guess a .17 has a fair crack of a report, and if it can reduce that it might be worth considering for a .243
  18. Anyone had any experience of the JLS Stalker MK1 silencer? I have seen them advertised in Gunmart and they seem good value at £110 compared to the T8 and PES. I'm wanting to put one on a .243. Any comments??
  19. Any suggestions as to where I cna get hold of a copy over here?
  20. As far as I understand you may have made things worse by putting the nixwax on them in the first place. Given that they have a goretex liner you have to use compatible products on them. Normal treatments just blocks the pores in the liner and can wreck the boots. That's just what i've been told when I've bought goretex stuff before. I have 2 jackets and a pair of boots of various makes and always try to use the right stuff when I'm cleaning them. I've had no problems so far. A pair of Mouflons are still on my Christmas list. A bloke I stalk with has a pair and has had no problems.
  21. I have a Whitewaters Outdoor Goretex jacket in realtree . I bought it for a hundred notes off a guy on ebay who imports them from the US. It has a reversable fleece inside as well. It's spot on, except that it's too noisy for stalking, lamping etc. I think that's were the Deerhunter stuff scores as it has a quiet outer shell.
  22. I don't think it's an English thing V-max. I was stalking sika near Peebles earlier this year and both stalkers took the deer off the hill before the gralloch back at the larder. The argument being that leaving the stuff on the hill makes the remaining deer jumpy and less likely to come out in the same area for a good while with all the blood and scent around. In addition, the carrion eaters attracted to it may clock the stalking party the next day or so and mess up the stalk. Anyone else got any thoughts/experiences???
  23. Hi All. I'm looking to do my level 1 and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good course provider. I'm based in North West England. I'm not particularly interested in doing a 3 or 4 day course. I can't really afford it! I'm just looking for someone who will let me turn up on the day to do the assessments. Any thoughts? Cheers, Novice
  24. How did you preserve the velvet on your trophies fellas? Do you need to use any special chemicals/processes?
