Thanks for the response Phil. Curiously enough the ground I've got in mind hasn't got a significant squirrel population. Most likely customers will be mink and perhaps stoat/weasel. Have you had any luck with these species, even as incidentals when focussing on squirrel? Novice

Has anyone had any success with using plastic window planters as tunnels for fenns. Sure I'd seen it mentioned on here or elsewhere. Hole in either end and you've a weatherproof well dimensioned tunnel. Seems a good idea on paper but would welcome first hand accounts Novice

Can anyone recall the name of the lad from a traveller background who was competing in the paralympics earlier in the year, paralysed from the waist down? He was shot in the spine by a keeper who shot through the rear of the vehicle he was in. Novice

Just looking at one of the that has come up on that auction site. Anyone used one? Any good? Novice

Thanks for the link. Attending an eagle field meet on the cwd is definitely on my bucket list. Novice

Fair enough. Each to their own. Definitely something I'd like to see though. Novice

That's interesting to hear Lee. Does he find them a worthwhile quarry? Novice

No antlers but they do have nice sharp tusks on them. There's afew clips on YouTube of eagles taking deer I think munties are a bit quicker to use their tusks than cwd, but it would be a consideration I guess. Any bird flown at a quarry over and above what it would normally pursue in the wild is going to be in for some rough and tumble. Novice

Not got time for myself on my current circumstances, never mind the hours required to man an eagle, but I have total respect for those that do. I'm just interested in all field sports and particularly anything deer related, so it got me thinking. Novice

Currently reading Martin Hollinsheads excellent book "hawking with golden eagles". The chapter on hawking roe got me thinking about whether anyone is regularly pursuing Chinese water deer with eagles in this country? They seem to offer everything that roe don't, for example they're smaller, inhabit more open country (and don't tend to run for cover), both sexes share a season so no concerns over taking the wrong sex and no antlers to worry about when moving in to secure the kill. No doubt the more knowledgeable members will tell me why they aren't suitable, but I'd love to hear your t

So have fourteenacre got it wrong by suggesting it's approved for stoat in England? I'm not sure what impact, positive or negative, the presence of a number of dead rats would have lying around the trap. Maybe not brilliant in any sort of warm weather. Novice

https://www.fourteenacre.co.uk/shop/goodnature-a24-rat-stoat-trap/ Has anyone got any direct experience of this type of trap? Thoughts/comments? Would it be more efficient against say squirrels or rats than a similar outlay on a dozen fenns traps? Novice

1 X Syndicate Place For Sika Deer -- Scottish Borders
novice replied to roebuck08's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Philip. I suggest you take a look over on the stalking directory. Someone currently advertising for members to fill a sika syndicate in the peebles region. Novice -
Did you catch the salmon on rod and line from the sea rather than river? A very rare catch as I understand it. Novice

Large Tuna Washed Up In River Severn
novice replied to forest of dean redneck's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
I find it odd that they're citing global warming as the reason for the tunas presence yet thy were present in the arguably colder north sea less than 100 years ago. Would love to see one never mind cash one, especially in British waters. Novice -
Fair play for leaving the better buck to take part in the rut. There's plenty of folk that wouldn't have passed him up. Novice

They're around south Manchester as well. They we're flying around whalley range cricket ground shouting their heads off when I was playing there last summer. Wonder if they have a use and may drive magpies away as they seem very aggressive and bold. If they were to do that and not predate songbirds themselves then I wouldn't be adverse to seeing a few about. Novice

I'm pretty sure the reporter's tongue is firmly in cheek when writing that. A pretty good piss take out of the folk involved to be honest ? Novice

A Couple Of Days With Les This Week
novice replied to archiekale's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Did you not get any grief from those houses in the background on the 2nd day? I only ask as we were out yesterday. Had plenty of shooting but a woman from a house about 300m from our hide came out and was playing war over the noise. As it happened the guy I was shooting with was the landowner so we carried. Thanks for the comments gents. I'm under the impression that bigger is better on this sort of thing but I'm no handyman so it would likely be a bought in version. I'll look at the proctor. Novice
