when is the best time of year for decoying pigeons ?

You can shoot big bags of pigeons at any time of the year. There are 2 main factors that will help you on the way to a big bag. 1, The weather.....I've found overcast with a good breeze helps a lot. 2, The birds feeding habits.......What they are feeding on, the availability of food in that area and the amount of time they have to spend feeding on it. Get these two working in your favour and your half way there before you start! Mark. -
I've had about 30 Does so far this season and haven't seen any liver fluke. I have however shot 3 with a broken back leg below the knee joint. And I've seen a young buck with a broken front leg while out feeding pheasants (no rifle) unfortunately I haven't seen him since. Mark.

It doesn't matter if it's SSSI, RAMSAR, LNR or NNR so long as there isn't any bylaws in place to stop access. I've shot on all of the above sites in Scotland. To find out if thre are any bylaws on this stretch of shore contact your local council or check with BASC Scotland. Mark.

The east coast of Scotland (Aberdeenshire, Tayside & Fife) produces many large bucks each year and is every bit as good as the south of England. It can also be considerably cheaper too. Cheers, Mark Robson

I've been using a lot of Eley Realtree Pigeon in 30g size 6 1/2. Probably gone through 15,000 so far. They are a good hard hitting, fast cartridge. Wish I could get them up here for the price you guys get them down south! Cheers, Mark.

Here's a video from this morning, We were out after a young cull buck or an old trophy buck. This one didn't fit the bill so he was left for another time. Cheers, Mark.

Local, 130 is the lower limit for Gold so yours should make it no problem at all. I put a head in to get measured at Scone this year, it weighed 644g and made 139cic. It had slightly better coronetts than yours and scored for span (yours looks a bit too wide), but they are much the same. The weight and volume are the high scoring parts. Well done. Very nice buck, should dry out to about 650g. My guess is a gold of about 138cic. let us know how you get on with it. Cheers, Mark.

Pic 1 Pic 2 I get a french shooter over for a trip every year with his pals, he shoots on his own and gets good bags of pigeons from his wheelchair. They come during the 3rd week of August so I can drive on the stubbles to drop him off at his spot. I just find nice flat place for his chair and build the hide around him. He shoots one handed with a Benelli auto and 28g cartridges. Cheers, Mark.

Hi, I'm going to be on the ESAWC (wildfowlers) stand. They weren't charging last year for any that didn't make a medal so I guess it will be the same this year.

Nice picture, they do love buttercups. They seem to go for all different types of flower, I once watched one standing up high on it's hind legs to pull Honeysuckle flowers growing up a deerfence. Cheers, Mark.

Well I decided to go out and have a look for the big buck that I saw on Tuesday morning. I'd only been on the ground 5 minutes and I spotted him standing on a banking just 150 yards away from where I saw him on Tuesday. I managed to get in close to him and dropped him with a perfect heart shot at 30 yards. A nice freak 8 pointer. I shot the buck at 03:45 and then went sniping with the 17hmr, back in the house for 06:00. It's a hard life!! I'd say this time of the year is best to try and get a few grassed, 03:30 in the morning when most folk are tucked up in bed! What they don't know won't harm them. Cheers, Mark.
