    5YR OLD HARRIS

Hi where a bouts are you! There maybe someone on here closer than you think and willing to help. Hopefully you have got a genuine bird with out any problems. I would advise hands on experience before getting a bird, but as you have one put in practice what's in the books. You my find sitting with the bird and reading the books helps as it gives a feeling of you are with the bird doing whats in the book. Weight is a subject issues all the time. I have a small male who flys at about 1.5. Your male sounds larger than this and the weight of 1.5 could well kill him. 2.1 sounds a little high to m
  7. Sounds like a plan let me know when you get to the pearly gates if it worked or not. If not then there are some black bunnies with my name on them. God helps those who help themselves so I have been told All the best Lee C
  8. Hi it is ment to be bad luck! Some are from pet stock but some occur naturally you just need two rabbits with the same gienes When breeding pet rabbits you take these things in to account and you get out what you put in or a throw back or a different colour. Breed the colour in and hayprestow you start breeding colour rabbits. Have seen a few about in my time blue opal black and orange. I think I put it on another post, we were out with the hawks a we saw an albino squirrel and the birds just let it run by up a tree and then from tree to tree, they must have thought it was one of ours fer
  9. Hit the nail on the head there! I am just happy to be out with me ferrets and my bird. If I catch it's a bonus if I don't but the bird has had some great flights then fantastic day out. I have had big bags and little bags. I'm happy all the same. People will have their opinions and they may differ but let's all try to put a few more positives in our threads. I'm not telling anyone to do this it just a suggestion. Hope you all have a good 2012 what ever size bags you have All the best Lee C
  10. A bit off subject but he also cault a bream out of a tree with this bird. He would have been puzzled to this had he not seen the fox jump down from the branch he was about to eat his fish on. You can imagin your bird just plucking a large fish from a tree! I am lucky not to have had such digs as you guys. I try to do shallow, medium deep looking holes as I am after the flight for the bird and then the rabbit !! Regards Lee C
  11. Had a mate who worked the land fill sites and had his hawk chase a rabbit straight down a hole in a sand bank and the rabbit pulled the bird down. It was late after noon and he gave up digging and went back the next day and got one of the guys from site to dig it out with the jcb to get his transmitter back. He reckons it was about 18ft down and they dug the bird out still alive with the dead rabbit still in it's grasp. I would not recommend using telemetry to track down holes as it is well expensive but worked on this occasion. The bird is now in it's 19th season and still going. All the bes
  12. A mate left his kit abroad so went out with no collars last week ferret did not come up. So borrowed some kit and went back next day put ferret down and dug out where it stopped. When he got down there there was a rabbit stuck in a stop end with the ferret stuck behind it dead. He thinks it suffocated behind rabbit. So there's one reason to use them. I do, but each to their own. Nice photos Lee

    Hares

I flew a friends bird for 3 seasons he worked on the land fill sites and this the little man as I named him flew every day and was as fit as he did not refuse an thing at 1lb 7. We all went on a field meet to lincon and he took 2 hare for me. He seamed bomb proof and had hell of a reputation. I thought I would be in line to have this bird but when my friend sold up he wanted him to be hunted every day and I could not give the bird that. So little man was sold and I was heart broken. He is apparently now being lamped as well and is making a name for himself with his new owner. Miss you little
  16. Hi all just got this link from another forum an they seem to rate it !! So thought I would add the link for anyone interested. Good hunting Regards Lee http://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-micro-shaft-round-point-shovel/53829
  17. Wing tip odema is when the bird gets frost bite type thing in the top of the wing and basically feathers drop out /don't regrow or tip of wing tip dies, can blister etc. Not nice it can also occur if the bird has a hard strike to the wing tip when flying /loss of blood supply to the wing and the wing dies. It is the time of year when a lot of birds can be lost to this! Good hunting Lee c
  18. Glad you had a good day hope the ferreting goes well all the best. Lee C
  19. Hi hope all went well today on hic ups !! Just a quick one I believe that when the weather I cold like this and a bit wet that we all need to look out for wing tip.I dont think it has to be just cold over night that does it. I think if the bird get to wet in the field then they will get cold as would we!!! Also if drying with a hairdryer watch out for Teflon in the dryer as birds are alergic to this and recently a eagle died from this. Hope you got bunnies for the freezer and bird did well. All the best Lee c

    Bad Weather..

Been off since last weds for Christmas and as soon as I got home the weather has been constantly Crap. Still I have had my 2011 little fela out in the wind, first in the shelterd area then out in the wind he love feather and has been going like a rocket with the wind and he is getting fit flying against it when coming back. Telemetry is a must in these condition so remember to check them batteries. Out on a field meet on satarday weather permitting. Rabbits did not want to bolt last weekend so hoping for a bit more sport this weekend. Safe hawking and watch the weather All the best Lee
  21. Yer a bit far but with this wind at the moment we could end up neighbours!!! Happy huntin Lee
