    Gutted

Hi hope all goes ok. When Vlad smashed up his wing the rest of the feather in the area dropped very quickly, from what I could see these started to grow back quite quickly, it's just a case of will they stay put!! I hope in your case that this is similar and the bird is just moulting the required area first !? ATB and hope it goes well. Lee

Yep put mine up for moult and next door got new kittens and they kept jumping on the aviary roof next thing I get home and half his wing is hanging off where he has smashed himself up!!! Gutting !! I am just waiting for him to moult out to see if he has a chance any more, he has dropped a few blood feathers from the area of damage but fingers crossed. ATB Lee

  5. What if you catch him and he stick you with a screw driver or a blade, is knee capping then to much or the little tawt thinks he will have a look round ya house or your family? To be honest I would put down half the country as it is, let alone some fker pinching from me and the fact that I care more for my animals than i care for most people show what I would do if I cault them trying to take one. A world of pain!!! That's got a bit of the chest. All the best Lee

  9. I just tut tut tut when feeding and tut tut tut when they come out of the holes to reasure them it's me. I my not sure if the are on the hunt or killing it makes much difference. I always use the collars and locator when out.
  10. I think it would be good for you to get out with others in the game, the bird needs to know that the ferrets are not prey by association. The ferrets are worth their weight in gold but are another thing to lean about. Housing and hunting etc. But once they become a team the bird will see the ferret as a hunting companion, When out we hold the ferrets up in the air to show the birds we are about to put them down the hole so the birds can ready themselfs. It is difficult to say it all online. If you were closer !! It all comes with time invested in the bird. Regards Lee
  11. Hi looking at you other post when training feed to bird away from the house so it does not associate you coming to get is as food on it's way or it may call every time it see you ie screaming bird try training jumps and all that away from the house. All the best and good luck Lee try to see if there are any clubs near you for mentor and advice.
  12. Even thow the bird has Lost all his primaries on one wing I am still hopeful he will be able to recover and fly. So I am still on the want. Thanks all Lee
  13. Hi I have found that once the bird is coming back you normally find it is on it way to you before you can get away from it. Get it following on glove with and with out tit bit so it can associate the glove not just as food area but a good place to land or just sit with you. Get them introduced to game and lots and lots of it that is why I recommend the ferrets. You can only kick up so much and the young and stupid easy catches soon learn to run and hide. This is when the ferrets come into there own as serving up game to your bird. As I said let them have a few struggles if the rabbit runs off
  14. Yep get them free sooner rather than later. Get them used to the ferrets and get them entered asap. As above let them feed up on first few kills, they will learn to keep hold of prey as well if left to a little struggle. Also if feeding on the glove to feed up I always pass the food from behind the birds tail and up to the glove keeping it covered by the hand and up to the back of the glove near the birds feet. If you pass it in front of the bird you will have a footy bird that strikes out!!! With using ferrets you can normally garentee you bird will get your a slip and get entered. All the
  15. The gutting thing in this case is he still hops o. To the glove and stays there. I walk him to the scale and he hops off and sit quiet as a mouse hops back on the glove and I carry him back in to the aviary. Unless you look very closely at the wing you would not know anything was wrong! Gutted all his primaries are now gone. Good luck to you all and best wishes Lee

    Red kites

I see them every day. Fantastic looking birds. See a buzzard or two everyday on way to work and sometimes a spar the type with wing !! My mate said his Harris was chased by a gos the other day, I recon it must have been a female spar. No one bit of permission I have a bird that I can only describe as a perry. See it a few time at distance and once at close range ad it headed to wards cover I was in saw the black of his eyes!!
  17. Is off out ferreting on his own in a bit as he can't find anyone to come along and help !

  18. Hi a mate has said he has chicken wire in top of his to stop the buggers getting on it. Vet said his friend had camera on aviary and the gos was baiting at cats and a foxes disturbing it!! So it's the only thing I can put it down to. I made the aviary quite small so he could not pick up a lot of speed for just this type of reason so I can only imagine that he went he'll for leather at what ever it was. It he had been down for moult for three weeks! The vet also said the wing will probably never be the same!! But finger crossed I am due some F in luck for once. All the best guys Lee
  19. Hi all hope all is well with you and the moult!! I got in Tuesday had family meal etc. Got the cats in from their pen and found a lump in one cat (vets op on Monday). Went out to Vlad about an hour after this upset. Went in to see him, he is at fat weight but still hops to the glove and i still weigh him every day. What looked like a big bit of his wing was hanging off. He was looking fine but had dropped a few primaries and about four were hanging off. I thought wing tip straight away! To late for vets so sat up all night and travelled over to Ian fitzgereald in staverton . Top bloke would re

  24. Hi gnasher the youngster accompanied by an adult is pretty standard. + this means there will be adults there with you. What type of course is it described as? An intro day with hands on is normally the back ground and some bird handling, flying Hunting days, what is say on the tin! Then they get longer and more in-depth for the want to be falconer. Hygiene, cleaning, kit making, health etc. Let us know how you get on and what the course was like. If you enjoy it and it is close to you then you could ask if they take on volunteers at the centre, then see if it is for you after spending som
