  5. Almost had it happen but always been lucky to spot them first! Did poke a stick in one as a kid ! Worst summer holiday I ever had! Was about 20ft up a tree at the time, got down pretty quick but not quick enough. I was stung to F and didn't want to tell my mum so hid in my room. My whole body was swollen from being stung!!!! Lesson learnt ! Got stung in the mouth on tounge and under my teeth drinking from a beer can that one had got in. I was rolling it around my mouth trying to spit it out as it was stinging me, had just got to BBQ sat down and had second sip from can. Went home and p

    Muse Ideas?

Hi here is a section of stuff I posted on here a while back. May give you a few bits to think about. Most people with large aviaries have pea gravel down sand is good in small weatherings but needs to be kept dry or it just goes to mush! So pea is good. + can be replaced after years. Look at where you will be putting the perches as the bird will projectile poo behind where it sits!! I would recommend lining the inside with fomex or stiff plastic board this can be wiped down easily. Heating is another thing to consider and in the first year they are quite venerable to frost cold + drafts, do n
  7. Never got around to lamping my hawk but might do this season I have but have fed him by torch a lot and he does look at the end of the beam with intention every time and if the food is there he's not long after. Dog are a bit of a pain I have been out with birds that fly with dogs but they see a dog the don't know or like and back to square one the don't like it Try and try again if at first and all that ! Hope it all goes well I'm sure you will crack the back of it and post all your good tips for us to view All the very best Lee c

  13. I posted help on this topic in another thread as he had three running on this. So have offered some advice but have to say telemetry was invented and used for a reason, my bird comes back !! But still use the tag. It is a common sense thing really if the bird had one he would stand more chance of finding the bird. Enough said. He has just sold a Harris and selling a gos as well so not sure why he has no telemetry yet. Hope he gets it back and I hope he goes out and gets a telemetry. ATB Lee
  14. I'm off to the car boot this weekend see what I can pick up! Seen a lot of dogs about at boot sales but never a hawk. Not that surprised ! Hope it goes ok and the bird is ok. No bad habbits ! ATB with the bird Lee c

  16. I like to dabble a bit I have made my own kit and had a go at lures and hoods all sizes just for the hell of it. I don't have the time to spend on making hoods any more, But it does not take long to knock up some anklets and jessies. It has given me the sence of doing it right. But I don't have an issues with people buying in I have purchased hoods and don't make my own blocks or bows. I do like to see people make their own kit and some do it better than other you should see my hoods compared to a real pros !! I'm happy either way !! I still take my bird back to the breeder to get him kitt

On another note had a mate catch a bream in a tree with his hassis hawk he got there saw the bird with it and was stumped for a few seconds Then saw a fox run out from behind the tree! All good fun, good luck this season. Lee c
  19. Hi the one lost a short while back I posted on here for the guy who lost it. He now has it back. I believe this one has been out for a year +. Thanks for posting I will give this guy a call and see if I can help him out. Not ment to trap but in this case it is the better of the evils. This bird will end up getting shot as a pest or as a bird that may breed with buzzards. It would be nice to track down owner as I'm sure this bird has been see all over the place in the same area!! All the best Lee C

    Total Beginner

Here is a list of bits all feel free to add or shoot down bits from it. Here goes Get a good mentor! Join a club Go out for season or two with them, if you can't get out with them all the time due to work or another do you have time to have a bird? Joining a club, you don't need to get involved with all the politics just get out of it what you want and need to know get out on field meeting and see who knows what . Telemetry is a must they can be right next to you in cover and you dont see the buggers. Play with it and get to know how it works in fields and woodland learn to pinpoint
  21. As all have said better in winter time less cover, less young, easier digging ground that is not rock solid !? and more fun. Also give you time to find someone near you to go out with a few times to get to know what to do. Get a locator as well and learn how to use it. Read some books and learn. warrens can be very large, run under Tarmac, concrete etc there is loads you need to think about Also remember if you are working a single ferret for long periods it will get tired!! So when you are having a cool drink in the shade remember the little worker needs a drink and maybe some energy givin
  22. Hi you could try posting in the falconry section a lot of us keep ferrets. ATB Lee c Would offer but in Northampton !!
