  1. Thanks for all the replys and well wishes fellas. Take care.
  2. It was Dec 31 and I had to work... Im just hoping I can finish soon enough that I can get home and load the dogs for one last go in 09. Luck is on my side, so I get home and get the dogs loaded with a few hours of daylight left. Its snowing/raining and the wind is blowing. I decide to go out behind the house and have a look. There has been about 500 head of elk there the last few days, so Im hoping I might even see a Wolf or Lion... I head down the dirt road from my house towards the gate into that section, but before I get to the gate I hear "John" start calling for a coyote. He always
  3. Dux-He is counterfeit...and I wouldnt put much stock in any of his pics, as I know he has others posted that are not his dogs. A peddler at best, IMO. Take care.
  4. mushroom-I hunt Bear, Mtn Lion, Elk, Deer, Coyotes, and lots more... Had about 300 head of Elk and Antelope on the hill behind my house last night. Take care.
  5. Thanks fellas, hope you like seeing our culls doing their thing. In the last pic (L to R) is a Stag female, a Bullstag 3/4 male, and a Bullstag 3/4 female. The dam of those two Bullstags was often mistaken for a Ridgeback, but she was 1/2 cross Bullstag. We do run the dog single handed at times, but I prefer to run them in pairs. (Often times two coyotes will get up at the same time, so its best to have at least two dogs on the ground to try to catch them both.) I will run pups with a pair. (thats what you are seeing) The two bullstags are only 10mo, and have been on over 50 coyotes.
  6. I just went out and measured one just caught. approx 21" at shoulder and 21" chest span. A fox is more cat like in build, IMO. Think of a wild border collie rather than a fox, and you will get a closer image. Dan-Not bad for a cripple... You gotta love a dog with heart... Take care.
  7. Dan-That work thing sure gets in the way of huntin dont it... Your season is just about to get rockin, pretty soon you will be saying the dogs need a break from all the hunting... Take care.
  8. marky r-Most the ranches I hunt are cattle operations and they have no love for coyotes. I can hunt from the roadside as well, especially when hunting around plowed or new planted pivot fields, where I dont want to take the truck into the field itself. Take care.
  9. blackpack-Thanks. We usually hunt 3-4 hours, but it can range from 1/2 hour to all day. I hunt different areas in a loop. Most my loops are about 10 miles square. The distance we hunt is usually the same, but varies in how far I have to go to get to the loop. Most my loops are within 30 miles of my house. Take care.
  10. Got to go for a short hunt with The Cowboy and the kids on Sunday morning. The wind was really whippin so we didnt stay out long, but we did manage to get one up and running. We head into a section of sage expecting to find one layed up. The Cowboy is out to my right when my boy says "they're after one" They are headed right at us so we stop and wait for the show. I spot the coyote flying thru the sage in front of us. Its headed for a big canal, so I whip around and head out of the section, hoping to be on the other side if it comes all the way thru before the Cowboy can get the dogs on the gr
  11. tlewis-How big is your Whippet x Stag? The Lion hunting is just getting started, but I am spending most my free time chasing the coyotes instead. Yes, still at the same place on Hawks. Sounder79-Coyote is faster, more wind and much more fight. Fox can make some of the bigger dogs look foolish with all their ducking and dodging, but have no chance if they try to run straight away or once caught. Take care.
  12. tlewis-You dont recognize those desert pics? You stood in my yard and had the same view before... (This is Scott from Idaho, those are my dogs and the desert pics taken at my house.) Hope you will stop by for another visit this year, and maybe we can go let the dogs chase something. Steve Hale-She runs well and has alot of heart, but does not have the power to handle a coyote. She can catch one and helps all she can in the fight. I like the gyp alot but would never breed from her for coyote dogs. She is about perfect for fox and jackrabbits, IMO. Take care.
  13. Dan-I guess they'll do...but you know Im always looking for something better... Mickey Finn-Thanks. Yes, they all stay in the same pen. They share houses, but each stays to their own feed bowl. Not all are that way, but these ones are... Take care.
  14. Mass-You say they are killing machines, BUT then tell me there sole purpose is to bay? Do you hunt Ridgebacks or are you just repeating what you read somewhere? I love the look of a Ridgeback, but Im comforatble with the killing power of our Stags and Bullstags. Take care.
  15. Mass G3nocide-A Ridgeback? In what way? marky r-I expect to catch 100+ a season, some catch half that, some catch twice that. At #54 as of today. loftmonkey-Just hollar if your ever out West... artful212-They are very similar. mattyg-Thanks. They might not suit anyone else, but they suit me fine. Take care.
  16. It's inches in height To The Shoulder Wild and Irish-OK, thanks. Chris strilciw-That dog "Bull" is 27-28" at the shoulder, and about 75-80lbs. Take care.
  17. hello sir i look for staghound male dog adult or puppy now , where is staghound like your dogs ? let me know . could you sell me one of your dogs ? my email is delonpara@hanmail.net or delonpara@yahoo.co.kr . thank you very much delonpara-Are you in the USA? I can point you in the right direction, but have none of my own for sale at this moment. Take care.
  18. NO1-We do have lots of coyotes, but all days are not like the ones pictured... I have had a few days where I didnt even see one, but most days I can usually catch one or two. I was out this morning for a couple hours and only managed to get one... chris strilciw-Not sure what "tts" is? stevemac/bird-The biggest differance I have found in THESE dogs is the speed lost with the bull blood. Im willing to trade some speed for the gain in power, durability and brains. I hunt mostly rough, rocky, hilly ground so pure speed is not needed as much here as it is in some other places. I think MY
  19. Dosser-Yes, we both have. It does take an exceptional dog, but they do exist... Take care.
  20. rough coated-Which rough coated one? maltenby-The right to have a gun (keep and bear arms), not the right to hunt specifically, though it has been proposed at the State level to make it part of the State constitution Take care.
  21. irishnut-As near as I can tell our laws are way more in favor of the hunter here than in the UK or Ireland. Our pests are open to hunt 24/7 When I have had folks here from the UK to hunt they were amazed at how open we are about our hunting, and nearly fainted when we said the big ranchers will take away our permission if we DONT try to kill all the pests when we are on their land. We even have laws that prevent the "antis" from harassing hunters... We do have seasons on some animals, and some states have lost certain types of hunting, but as everyone knows there is always a loophole if you
  22. cuagusgiorrai-Not sure what your wanting to know about the American Badger? They are aggressive fighters, and durable. We have loads of them. They are a considered a pest by most. What else can I tell you? Take care.
  23. Dan-Your not the only one that likes "Reba" best. I just cant decide if she gets a date with "John" or Hoss" first... pics are as follows; "Hoss" bullstag "T" Bullstag "Hoss, John" bullstag, stag "T" bullstag "K, John, Hoss, Cookie" (left-right) stag, stag, bullstag, stagxwhippet "Cookie" stagxwhippet "Bull" stag "Grey, John" stag, stag "Grey, John" stag, stag "Reba" stag "Lil Rough" Jagd John, Reba and K all have the same sire (H). K is double H, being out of Reba x H Hoss and T are littermates 1/4 pitbull 3/4 stag Take care.
  24. Bullstags for me. They do all that I ask of them, and in the style I demand. Take care.
  25. Thanks fellas. Buch-All hunting for me is about the DOGS first and foremost. I enjoy hunting coyotes over all others as I can see the entire hunt most the time. When hunting with the scent hounds we often only see the beginning and end, with the dogs being out of sight and sound for the majority of the hunt. I admire the coyotes over all other predators, so if I had to choose only one quarry, it would be the coyote. Take care.
