The way I see it is, it cant be a "line/family" if it isnt linebred. If you cross two unrelated dogs, you have made an outcross. If you breed two related dogs that you got from someone else, its your cross, based on their "line/family". Most the credit should go to them for providing the base, most the blame should go to you for poor selection. I think you have to have at least bred both sire and dam, and they must be related, before you can start calling them "your line" Take care.

More food for thought...can you have a "line" if you are not linebreeding? Take care.
-
How many generations do you need to breed dogs to consider it your "line"? If you breed two dogs that you got from 2 other folks...are the pups "your line"? If you breed two dogs of an already established line together...are the pups still that line, or yours? Take care.

advice on exercising my bedlington lurcher pup please
UphillDoc replied to lunacy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
lunacy-Let the pup run to its heart content. It will decide when its had enough...they arent made of glass. Take care. -
The light heavy weight Champ wont take a fight with a contender from a lower weight class, because its too short notice??? COWARD! He fuked all the up and coming fighters on the card as well...they needed the paycheck/exposure far more than Jones...PITIFUL! Take care.

Saluki-Thanks. She was a 1/2 cross...Bull x Stag. I would like to see a pic of yours as well. Take care.

If you were in the market....for a pup
UphillDoc replied to Calli's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Calli-Instinct...especially if the pup doesnt look/act like the papers say it should. Papers wont ever catch you a thing, but if the pups arent represented correctly, then can you trust anything else the breeder tells you? Take care. -
lukey-I rarely carry a gun when hunting with dogs. I always have a knife, but depend on my dogs to stay between me and big trouble. You learn to read the quarry, and they will tell you when you are close enough. I live for the adreneline of being in the middle of it, so its a risk im willing to take. Few things get my heart racing like being in the tree with a bear, or on a ledge with a lion...and the things that do, are all illegal nowadays... I have been run over by a bear, and rushed by plenty others. I have been hooked by a lion, but that was while trying to tie him, after roping him. Bee

David-As I recall, those were both 40lbs+...Its been a long time ago. The black was a Nuttal x Gould dog. Take care.
-
ivebeen-Its about a 17lb lakeland, not an airedale. In the second pic you can see a black dog moving away. That dog didnt take a backwards step on coon, but she bayed on that big badger. Take care.

lukey-I have fooled with performance dogs of one type or another for the last 35 years. IMO, the differances in evaluating performance of each type are not that far apart, and the methods used to obtain better animals will always remain the same. I went thru dozens of running dogs before I ever found one that I liked. I saw loads more that belonged to others, and got an idea of what I wanted/expected in MY running dogs. The bullstags Im running now are just in the early stages. I have tested the first breeding I made, and am happy with the results. The second generation breeding will be put t

Bird-Dan is well...busy with the kids sports, and such. The coyote season will be rolling along soon, so Im sure he will around. His team was young last year, but doin the job...im sure he is real excited about this season. Take care.
-
Stuntman-I told you...you can only collect me once a week, there are others tryin out for the job!!! Vargy and tomcat are gonna be jealous if they find out!!! Take care.
-
As it's illegal to run them in most states mate You are both correct. Take care.

A badger like these will make even a big coon seem like a walk in the park.
-
SHH-Its the same here...plenty of wishful thinking, and excuse making. There are solid dogmen here, but very few are the type you see on the WWW with something for sale constantly. Take care.
-
Hey somebody sees something they like just ask, I'm all about putting good stock on the ground and seeing it progress. That and he just loves to collect the studs... Take care.
-
jezza-I take "jackers" to mean quitters? Anybody that works dogs seriously will have quitters/culls. The goal is to get as few as possible...WITHOUT lowering the standard!!! The only way to improve your dogs, IMO is to 1) Actually look for dogs quitting. 2) Eliminate them from the gene pool 3) Only breed from outstanding individuals, from outstanding litters. Most folks dont want to see the truth, and most wont ever see it, or at least admit to seeing it. If your standards are high enough, you will be suprised when dogs measure up...not when they dont. Two things I try to always keep in

Doc: I think it is important to stress that your bull blood comes from properly tested stuff, not just any old type of bull that has been carelessly bred just to satisfy some 'image' of what someone thinks a bull should be. Like anything, the original stock needs to be made of the right stuff, doesn't it? skycat-When I say "Bulldog" I dont mean any ol cull with a big head. Im talking about a first class athlete, not one of the show ring, rap video, backyard bully, bluenose shit eaters that are so popular with the kids nowadays. It makes me sick that those are even called Bulldogs. I

Neil-I do think good bull blood will bring courage, but I think if you need them for that, then you are breeding poor running dogs. In MY lurchers the bull blood has added durability, wind, heat tolerance, and brains. Take care.

Ideation-The bears go to sleep when it gets cold...we run them Spring-Fall. The "Cinco de Mayo" Bear Take care.
-
digger-Are those two hens green legged? Take care.
-
foxdigger-The Grey blood is really old Johnny Jumper blood...Bitter game, kick like mules, cut with the best. They are gaff fowl pure, but crossed make excellent knife roosters. These two greys are Hatch crosses. The Black blood is McCrae blood. Super fast, get on top knife roosters. These two Blacks are Hatch crosses. The pumpkin is the Claret blood I was telling Abel about. This is a pic of a pure Claret. These roosters have been shown under "Owl Cabin, Ironhead, Liberty, Paden and Uphill entries" all over the USA, Mexico, Phillipines, Guam, Saipan and Honduras. mark-I would like to s

Stuntman-They are lookin good. Im anxious to get mine...there could be a coyotes worst nightmare in that bunch for sure! Take care.
