  1. i dont know if roy smith still has the amlwch boats ,there was good fishing there ,i like to go wrecking myself but a lot of skippers these days want the easy money mackie bashing & anchoring on ground for rays smoothounds & stuff thats not for me i like big fish lol
  2. only been the last 2 weeks due to operations , 3 this sunday had 7 runs ,last week hooked 8 only landed 3 kept getting the lines in the kelp & snagging ,i fish live mackeral , the shoals have split up in the straits ,its just a case of finding the pockets of fish ,
  3. it use to be excellent mackerel fishing off the rocks at that beach when i was a kid plenty still there paulus at the right times ,good fishing all around that area if you specialise , & pick which species you want ,
  4. still plentifull around puffin area at low water ,evening best , last few years the mackeral have been very small around the island ,plenty of bass all over though
  5. they are better if you bleed them as soon after capture as you can ,, for me anyway
  6. nice fish ,we used to get great bags out in st georges channel ,some good wrecks there with big fish on them ,
  7. after last weekends scratch on the island (had 8 runs but only landed 3 fish ) i tried another nearby spot ,i was getting lots of runs but the beggars (bass) was running around kelp covered rocks & snapping me off , anyhow only 3 fish again but 1 just short of 8 lbs 1 under 3lbs & 1 2lber returned better than sitting at home lol
  8. hi ben ,i dont know where you are based but any headland or rocky area with a tide rip should produce mackeral in settled weather plus pollock & bass .spinning plugging or float fishing ,i fished at bosherton manorbier angle etc ,,under st annes head there are some huge pollock to be caught , deep spinning with frozen sandeel , the beaches are good with a little surf ,fishing crab for bass or rag /lug for flounder bass flatties & mullet ,,west wales is a fishermans paradise best of luck
  9. im moving to brotton in november and in two minds wether to get a yak or all the lads who have em trade em in and all put in for a decent boat. id feel safer if it took a turn on a boat. i surf so know the sea is to be respected. you got a kayak yourself mate? no i havnt a yak if i had some cash i would invest in one the teeside lads are pulling in some canny bags o fish ,,i fella had 2 x14lbers yesterday plus others (cod)
  10. yakking fishing well as far up as teeside my pals have had great inshore catches ,,a 14lber at whitby off skinningrove on the yaks today its fishing well

  12. that question depends on water speed & depth ? plus i catch a lot of fish upstream spinning ,retrieveing fast

  15. mick ,i pay £55 each on avante ,he only takes 8 anglers its worth paying extra just to have more room , plus petrol.parking ,tackle shop its well over £100 a day for next to nothing caught , not being bigheaded but im a good angler ,,the fish just are not there in any numbers ,its a strange one [BANNED TEXT] ,

  17. well all after 4 trips to whitby in the last month i have never seen it so dire ,yesterday we travelled 17 miles to the wrecks after a 10 hour trip the total for the boat was 7 small fish .i had 1 small suicidal pollack ,the other 3 trips best day 9 fish on the boat ,its rubbish ,sea otter mistress & trot on are getting fish but mainley going out to the wall 27 miles off , not lots but more than us AVANTE ,the skipper mick works his balls off all day but the fish just arent there ! in 40 years of fishing there ive never seen it so bad ,,lets hope it picks up soon

  19. as said bass are here all year round ,on anglesey put the time in & they can be caught every month of the year not lots but there most if not all my big bass come from very late on in the year october november for the real big ones , (ok they can be caught any time ) september the best month for numbers for me
