  1. Chicory. Grows on any soil. Year round cover and good nesting material. Nice small strip of maize or tritacale with it works wonders.
  2. We use both but then we have double the amount of partridge than pheasants. We get pheasants used to the hoppers on the rearing field but hand feed them on straw before release. When they go to wood they are hand fed but there are a few hoppers in the pen. It works for us and we get good returns. Have to dog in well though.
  3. Got one on mine. Made by Niggeloh. Got it from Garlands £ 23
  4. Looks a beauty mate. Good luck with it.
  5. Are you saying bullet head came away from the casing and got stuck, which i assume missed fired and when you edjected the round the bullet head was left in the barrel or did the casing get stuck in the chamber ? My guess is that the round had none or little powder in the cartridge but just enough energy for the bullet to enter the barrel. All I heard was a click. There was no bang.
  6. I had a bad experience with a batch of remmy 17HMR ammo last week which finally left a round stuck in the barrel of the CZ. I had suspected a bad batch but this last episode shocked me. If it had gone an inch further up the spout I could have chambered a round behind it. Remington USA have issued a recall notice on their semi auto rifle and said they will refund full boxes of ammo. Its on their website if you want to look. Has anyone else had any bother ie bad grouping/slow burn etc. And does anyone know contact details of the UK distributor cos I sure as Sh!t ain't happy.
  7. Collins Nets http://www.collinsnets.co.uk/ They have everything you need.
  8. If you ever had a cub in a pheasant release pen you'd kill them on sight without question. It's pest control pure and simple. I never pass up the opportunity and if you reared game you wouldn't either.
  9. I use a bushwear tripod. Cost £35 and I find it much better than the old green garden canes I used to use. It ain't the best build quality and you have to check the tightness of the screws now and again but when I've used it it's been brilliant.
  10. Like to see them about but we keep them down to minimal numbers to keep the pikeys off with the running dogs. Partridge won't tolerate dogs running all over the shoot. That's the sole reason.
  11. You still need to have nominated land as you did for the grant. The open ticket allows you to shoot on any land that you have permission on but the onus on safety falls on you and rightly so. In a nutshell you still need a dedicated piece of land as your main ground as it gives the required good reason for ownership.
  12. Its a balancing act with reared duck. Overfeed and you'll need to dynamite them off the water. Underfeed and they leave. We fed them some on the edges of the water then kibbled barley away from the pond so we could drive them back. Just try different things but get them on the wing as early as possible. Thats the one time on the shoot when a wild spaniel is welcome.
  13. Try jam on a chunk of bread or piece of chocolate superglued to the trip plate on a fenn trap
  14. Try hornadys own brand. I use homeloads 55g v max in the 22/250 and they are great but i've also used hornady factory rounds and they shoot 3/4 inch groups through my T3. Well impressed considering its a factory round. The ones i tried were molys and £19 a box.
  15. Use whatever works. Just ring the changes with colours, times etc. Most will trip up sooner or later.
  16. Go on Clulite website. They do a cigar/jack plug adapter and they are good quality http://www.cluson.co.uk/
  17. Thanks rowey....very neat site . Typically the same time every year ? Yes always in July
  18. I always carry a photocopy just in case and have my ticket numbers in my mobile. Not saying they won't be arsey but it can't hurt.
  19. unfortunatly the exchange rate has put glass prices through the roof, good target scopes are starting around£1200.keep your eyes open for s/hand there was a ziess victory for sale on here the other month so they do come up failing that look into a burris fulfield or nikkon monarch maybe a shepard.[bANNED TEXT] on here will know the name of the shop in scotland that does alot of ex demo swaroski (mcleads?)he's your best bet for s/hand Assuming I could increase my budget (hope the mrs doesn't read this) could I ask what you would go for? Mick. A target shooter I ain't but I've
  20. Have a look at the meopta meostar 4-16x44 Tactic. For the money mate they are fantastic and right on your budget. If it's purely target you'll want greater mag but for dual purpose they are hard to beat.
  21. I use my .22lr for bunnies so I would be perfectly happy with that kind of grouping. If you can group the air rifle like the 22 at 95 yards it'll be worth seeing. It's a good group mate. I take a golf ball out for practise and drop it at various ranges for rimmys or c/f. If you can hit one of those regular you're on the money.
  22. totaly agree whats the point of killing next seasons sport. It stops em from eating next seasons pheasants! Smack em in the spring hard. If you wait till stubble time the damage has already been done. I agree though. Dug vixen last weekend but not cubbed. Saw 2 running together last night. Bit hit and miss. Weathers been harder than it has for years so guess its changed things. No cubs at all on our ground. Never seen them at this time of year above ground.
  23. My son has the same gun and the same problems. Keep the ram clean and lightly oiled. Remove excess carbon fouling on the cylinder with wire wool. Check the condition of the rubber O ring and replace if necessary(spares come with new guns). Melbourne Gun told me these semi's are notorious for cycling probs but the 3 year warranty and back up are superb. Not sure if the warranty carries over though. You see alot of these guns coming up for sale so I reckon there's a known problem. Like the previous post said cleaning is important. Strip it down and you'll soon see hidden sh!t.
