Question fofr the Bull x owners???
cooper101 replied to cooper101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
kind of why im asking to see if any go against the nature of there breeding and dont chomp down!! i know all breeds can bruise them ffs my mates half collie x grey is terrible for crunching the rabbits!! just genuinly intrested and not trying to slate them in any way!! -
i was havinga conversation with a friend who runs a bull x and i was talking about the butchers not taking rabbits off me if they have brusing!! we got onto the subject of lamped rabbits and i do get a few that have a bit of brusing mainly round the shoulders and somtimes if its a desperate strike its battered but the majority of mine are in good condition!! he said that his dog crunches them everytime he usally feeds all his rabbits to the ferrets and the dogs!! whats the story with yours!! i know they are not bred for soft mouths but i was intrested to know the answer to this question!! c

Ya but what im trying to look at is the breeds crossed into greyhounds and whippets to make lurchers. and see is there any correlation between the actual working ability of the pure bred or is it just what they can add to the grey i understand that but theres lads that run whippet x greys that wouldnt be able to vote on this if you get what im saying like the whippet adds brains and stamina to the greyhound thats why they cross them!!! lol i found this out from a thread i started ages ago I know you have a point there pal but im just trying to find out about the dogs that are

that is a handsome dog you got there thanks
-
they learn through experiance honestly i take mine out and make them watch as soon as i got manners out of them they can come!! they learn the sounds and smells as they go along i dont suggest letting the dog try and mark sets when you start just let them watch and learn whats going on and make sure they stay silent!! its experiance really ive not seen a bad ferreting dog that was brought on this way!!
-
hers some pics from a set he was working when a mate came to take pics!! there the only ones he managed to get a couple of stages on as it all happened to quick for him lol!! hes listening and the it bolts and its over in seconds as per usal lol hiope you like
-
ive said before that this is were my dog excels he started off ferreting i just used to position him and make him sit as a pup and never allowed him to sniff or poke his head down a hole!! as he got older if he moved he could as long as he walked around the set and not right into the middle!! and now i tell him nothing he marks, follows them with his ears and bang there usally grabbed as soon as they bolt!! i dont use nets on my sets, i let the dog work them and its a joy to watch!! all i have to do is carry the rabbits and the ferrets and the dog does the rest!! just make sure your dog lear
