  1. Also try taking a dummy or dead rabbit out at night drop it when the pup doesn't see and then lamp it a send the pup too retrieve it..when your happy the dogs got it try it again lamping the real thing....all the best
  2. Did u teach it too retrieve before you took it out??? If so then as already said don't walk too the pup walk away it's frustrating but never get annoyed or show your pissed off with the pup or you will never get a retrieve....I'd play retrieve with the dead bunny or a rabbit fur dummy and make sure it has defiantly mastered it before going back into the field too run it...
  3. Yeah it moves with the skin it's not painful he lets me push it prod it I did try and squeeze it a little but it's quite hard so thought better of it....yeah I'm getting it checked didn't know if anyone had seen it before and had an Idea what it might be......thank you for your comments...will update when I find out for anyone who might be intrested...I'm Sure it's nothing but better safe than sorry....thanks again billy
  4. Yeah newkid i agree....but if it's as I suspect and the dogs protecting it's home then measures can be taken too ensure it doesn't happen again....I don't believe a dog should die for showing loyalty and being protective...on the other hand only the owner of the dog can honestly know if the dog is aggressive or protective....if it happens off the property then it's another story all together in my opinion....I'm not an expert but i do know the difference between an aggressive dangerous dog and a dog protecting its home....!!!
  5. ...in all fairness too the guy who said his dog nipped the men and I mean nipped if a dog bites you bleed... end of....puncture wounds the lot....now I have worked sheep farms for years and the old farmer has always said turn your back on them collies and they will try and nip u out there property like they do to move on sheep.....not bite more a nasty pinch with there front teeth...and yea I've been nipped by the dogs more than once....in all fairness they don't bother me unless I'm close too the farmhouse wich unfortunately is by the only gate too get in....now he has clear signs saying his

I was a Saluki x grey runner from child never knew any diffrent grandad kept them dad kept them uncles kept them, pre ban they were the dog too keep, I was the first in my circle and family too try collie x and I got a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie and I can hand on my Heart tell you that my first collie x was the fastest and most agile dog I've ever run, not too mention a full menu pot filler, love all types but I don't believe u can stereotype a cross or write them off for tasks other breeds on paper and in theory should be better at.....!!! He wouldn't look out of place running round a stadium he can
  8. Thanks for response Random....yeah I agree stick with what I know or think I know and have and progress naturally... 10. Hi mac, thanks for replying and thanks for advice, as said airgun lamp doesn't need range of an fac rifle or a dog mans lamp, so I am quite into gathering info on the new types of lamps I will be needing....I did jump the gun abit excuse the pun and got a led lenser p7.2 and it arrived this eve so I can't wait too see if it's any good first impressions especially for the money are very impressed but until I try it out in the field I won't be sure....I'm new too airgun lamping I just decided I can't buy another dog now mines retired so how am I going too get my hunting fix and the airgun lamp s
  11. I've spent all my hunting life lamping mainly and using the trusty lurcher as my weapon of choice I found that light force offered me the best results when I took my dog out for a shine...170 striker I found was the lamp that I picked up time and time again even though I own all 3 variations lance,striker,blitz....I then found hid but in all fairness i didnt like the beam intensity and always reverted back too my old faithful striker....not one of the fancy dimmable types either....but recently I've decided on a new hunting path wich saw me purchasing the hatsan at-44-10 after much research an

  15. If we all started at the same time and did exactly the same things there wouldn't be anything too discuss and it would be a pretty boring forum!! Bringing on running dogs is a funny old game!! No two dogs are the same so one way may not work for the other!! Listen, watch, make mistakes, learn from them and build on it, if you get it spot on everytime then well done you!! Me personally I started my colliexgrey early still doing the business albeit a little injury riddled! And my deer x grey I've started later! I watch how each individul is progressing and if I think there ready I try them! If it t
  16. found that blue started to semi stalk towards the end of the season before last, still effective but took me some adjusting too!! this season gone hes off after them like hes had a rocket shovved up his arse!! his running style does vary depends on what kind of mood hes in !! as long as he catches them i dont care if he cartwheels to the feckers!!

  19. had a hangover from friday night so i decided to walk it off sat morning with my dogs in the sun!! my dad came along with me aswell with his 10 year old collie as soon as we got to the fields there was a rabbit standing out in the open perfect for my 10 month old pup to stretch his legs on, unfortunatly it didnt run as it didnt know were it was, bless the poor thing so i put in my pocket for the ferrets to eat later!! so we started off again on the walk and the old girl(the collie) all hyped up from the rabbit was going through the cover like a terrier flushing mainly pheasants and small son
