Whippet x Greyhound!!! A pointless cross???
cooper101 replied to cooper101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
no they havent but they also havent owned the cross since if you read it!! ive noticed a few people on here recently saying there running them now but the majority arent!!! i think the truth is they are good for light work but they are surpassed by other crosses in the lamping world!!! i can understand the reasons for the cross now but i personally dont need one for what i do!! and i wish all who do still run this cross and are thinking of running this cross many happy nights hunting with them!!! all the best B Cooper -
Have you ever had a saluki/grey collie/grey they are imho one of the best all rounders. The ones i have seen and a 3 quarter grey/collie put back to a pure saluki i had was quite a decent dog. no i havent!! in fact i was taught collies were no good by the boys i was going out with in the early days and for a long time stuck with whatever they had bred i thought they knew best as you do when your younger they told me any thing with brains was no good!!!! it was only when i started to see an old family friend who had coursed and lamped most of his life pre ban!! and had now taken up gun do

do you think its true to his breeding or do you think its just his traits. so as ferreting goes hes mustard but lamping hes avarage. how old is he and has he had much work day or night. i know some of these questions seem pointless just helps me to get better picture. Not sure if its his breeding or just his traits!! as i allways ran suluki type lurchers before this one!! down my way yor lucky if you get 20 runs in a night due to the small fields and generally they all congregate together in groups and as soon as you run one the rest get on there toes and head for cover !!that field ove

i think alot of the people who dont like the colliex!! actually find the dog is too clever for them and thats why they dont get on with them!! with a collie x ive found i have to be one step ahead all the time because hes allways pushing the boundries with me but i soon correct him and were back fine again till the next time!!! i like a challenge somthing that gets me thinking all the time!! and bringing him on from a pup had some real ups and downs but it all comes together in the end !! its almost like we know what each other is thinking when were out!! somthing i never had with my suluki xz

Whippet x Greyhound!!! A pointless cross???

lol!! if you read most of the comments people only owned this cross once!! it seems to me like they feel they were lacking in certain elements and moved on from them and found diffrent crosses more effective!! i have no doubt now in there rabbiting abilities. but i feel from what everyone on here has said they would rather use an extra element in there dogs be it a bit of beddy or collie or whatever!! as a full time dog i dont see anyone who still runs one who has allready owned one before!! just what i have picked up through this thread as its gone along!! i might me wrong and have read the -

hello taker!! why havent you used this cross again since your last one?? if this was your most sucessful dog to date!! is it a lack of good ones about or is it because you have diffrent hunting needs nowadays?? we dont run them in my circle of friends we dont use them atall this is why i started this thread to understand the cross!! !! for the variety i take and the ground i work my collie x grey suits my needs fine! its just really me trying to know more about a cross i have always overlooked!!thanks -

fair play to them see that to me is the right way to go because they still got the bed in them. And to another comment about regardless of big bags. I see a big bag the best way to judge a dog it tkes alot of qualities to gain a big bag. this proves if they are truley good at there job. Also you get a few lads thinking they get to 20 often and they call it a night now all dogs have got it in them to do that but the truley great ones who pace there selves use there brain and control there speed to anticipate the turn and generally out wit what there running do really well. But its not uncommon -
might sound silly but i keep my luchers indoors so i cant have any chewing watsoever so i give them a thick cardboard box from the back of a supermarket!! they chew it for days on the corners and when it starts getting tatty go get a new one!! the really hard thick stuff i find is the best!! hope this helps!!

mark my words 3/4 grey 1/4 collie crosses are fast enough to catch anythink in this country!!! tried and tested to the limit!!! nobody on this forum can truly doubt the 3/4 cross's lamping ability!!! All the lads running fen hares and the lads running in the lamping comps on here should take note of this x,sounds unbeatable LAMPING ABILITY IF YOU CAN READ PROPERLY!!! Im gonna shut up mate because you dont need any help to make a fool out of yourself, "lamping ability" 2 words "muscle mass" try and understand that eh. Everything has limitations,if it didnt we would all h -

I am sorry but imho the 3 quarter grey/collie is one ove the most overated lurchers out their admitedly their is good speciemens but they were hyped out of all proportion by Hancock and plummer all them years ago i have seen quite a few of this cross run even one out of the first litter hancock bred and can understand [bANNED TEXT] lads put a different hybred over them atb dell im not say -

You might be right but I'd say it's a 50/50 chance cause I'd almost bet that alot of em are not fast enough to suit alot of folks on here. and what in this world would they be chasing apart from a bloody cheetah wich is not likely(which they in fact would catch in the end through stamina) thats going to be too fast for them??????? NO IM NOT NOW SAYING A LURCHER CAN KILL A CHEETAH BEF -

thats the most backward comment ive ever seen!! if its the best catch dog ever seen and they so much better than collie x grey why ohh fookin why dont you own one man!! why are you settling for an inferior cross if this is the ultimate catch dog????? I bred the f1 collies for my eldest lads first dog, what dont you understand when ive said "the faults outweigh the plusses" but if i only had a choice of a collie/grey or a whippet/grey i wouldnt even have to think about it. My present dog is whippet/grey x beddy/grey [mostly] whats that telling you? it says to me you like to run
