i think its due to the fact that newcomers who dont know alot about hunting belive hunting dogs need to be agressive to get the job done plus they look the part!! if i had a bullx or a colliex put infont of me when i first came into the sport i would have chosen the beastly looking dog purly because they look good!! i dont know any bull xz down my way that have caught regular decent bags of rabbits but truth be told thats not what there bred for are they!

i put my bitch (jrt x whippet) to a whippet x greyhound, the dog is more of a whippet size and build. i put a link to a pic of my bitch above the pic of the pups, dya reckon the the pups are gona be of a small size due to the size of my bitch??? a few people have said they could go either way taking the height from the sire or the dam. i personally think their heights gona be limited due to the bitch to be honest I couldn't really say I know with hybrids the pups can vary quite alot!! Sounds like you should have some very racy looking pups as for size I'm not sure!! Keep putting pics

As your a beginner I'd say a clulite!! There tuff the last well they got a walking light so you can gut and get over fences if your struggling!! I think most of us started with a clulite and when and if you feel it's the sport you want to do and you get a better lamp it's a good trusty backup!! Plus it's cheap and comes ready to go!! Only an opinion!!

well to start with i would be teaching it manners walking to heel, recall, stay general manners before i did anything else (breaking them to stock is also a good idea young)!! then when its older maybe say 4 or 5 months i would play fetch with it dont do too much as to bore it as this is the start of teaching the retrive!! all this though is were i would be starting my pups training until it had these mastered it wouldnt even see a rabbit or be entered into the field!!

cooper101 replied to wirral countryman's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
mine are free to a good home!! apart from the skinflint butchers round here i wont let them have em for less than £3.00!! they used to get them off me gutted and skinned for £1.50 and then putting them up for £6.00 so i thought feck it im doing all the graft i want at least half the profits!! i stopped ferreting this season aswell so i only had lamped ones so not all of them are worth taking to them( they end up in my mincer and i make bunny burgers which i get £1.00 each for)!! -

Hunting mice, rats, rabbits, and hares The Hunting Act bans activities that Parliament believed to be cruel sports and permitted activities that it believed to be necessary for land managers. Parliament accepted the view that, where rats and rabbits were pests, hunting them was legitimate.[33] MPs did not believe that there was any necessity to use dogs to hunt mice[34] and believed that hare hunting was cruel, which is why these activities were not exempted from the Act. These two exemptions do not make it possible for "traditional" hunting to continue. Rabbits tend to stay very close to -

cooper101 replied to cooper101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
you make it sound like big bags are easly come by , its competition mate and we all like to think our dogs can do it, but its not that simple sorry you lost me there????? explain were i make it sound easy???? actually after reading it back i can see were your getting that from but i dont mean it to sound easy!! i just hear lads round me going out and catching as many rabbits as they can find staying out till all hours and then not doing anthink with them!! i class this as overkill and i was just finding out when others feel they caught enough to satisfy themselves!! -
lovely looking pup fella!!!

thats why i said when does sport become overkill? totally agree theres no overkill in a pest control perspective!! -
i know most of us look to catch the large bags! but surely theres only so much you can catch and do things with?? i love to hear the tales of dogs catching huge bags but surely if this is done on a regular basis your going to end up with wastage?? the butchers can only take so many, your freezer can only hold so many and on top of this if you go out to catch these huge bags on permission you'll run out of runs sooner or later!! im only asking as i like to go out and bag about 10(not this season mind its been poor for me) somtimes more if i have people for them but as a rule im happy to go h

ohh yeah thats a fantastic attitude to take!!!! COOPER101,JUST WHAT WE HAVE BEEN ON ABOUT.ATB TREVOR i know its a shame really hes clearly a keen hunter! but needs to respect his quarry he'll have more sport in the winter months if he gave them time to breed!! im not saying everyone should stop as at the end of the day if your asked to get them gone then you do your job!! i would imagine this ones just out for the fun of it(so let them breed you'll have more fun next season ) "f!uck em let em have it year round" go and say that to a local landowner when your looking for permiss

my dogs will allways have a home with me after they retire!! they are part of my family aswell as my hunting companion!! just because they dont do what they used to for me in the field dosent mean i will stop enjoying there company out on walks with me!! if the dog was suffering i wouldnt hesitate to end that suffering!! the bullet is a quick and painless way to go!! i watched cattle on a daily basis getting the bullet at the slaughter house never saw one suffer(instant lights out)!!
