i see more and more entering into running dogs who are without proper guidance on respecting land and quarry as a major problem and adding more flame to the fire!! not all as im sure there are novices with the general common sense needed to work dogs and with guidance!! but i know of lads getting these dogs as they think its a good idea at the time and they have fantasised about hunting for years who are an absolute menace and do more harm than good!! yes i belive anties are city folk who have no idea whatsoever about the effects these animals they fight so passionatly to protect have on the -

the best dog for catching rabbits is the german bred conyhund, its bred to be the same size as a rabbit and is greyish brown colouring mainly!! it is let loose in the field at night and mixes with the local rabbits almost becoming one itself(mimicking the rabbits movements and eating patterns)!! once it has settled in the group it picks them off one by one eventually clearing the area of rabbits!! as you were asking about the best rabbit dog i thought id tell you my favourite story!!
-
well from what the law states in catcher 1s post i would say yes!! theres no such thing as accidental hunting!! it has to be proven you have the intent to hunt/course but his intention to hunt is there is it not?? when he says hunting rabbits or rats on permission then illegal quarry kicks up and is killed! that is actually a question to you not me arguing!!

no ,they have laws writen down ,that they have to abide by when it comes to court apperances, when a dog is loose its his mind that is controling it as we know ,and there is no law that says we are responsible for what the dog is thinking . so what was the owner of the APBT that killed the little girl in Liverpool jailed for? I thought you could be held resposible for your dogs actions!! If I used a rottwieler off the lead to attack and kill a man would I not be held responsible????
-
I'm not saying these are my views!! It's in reply to getting caught and the punishment that follows!! Were all resposible for our own actions(and our dogs)!! It was really a question do you not think that's the way the eyes of the law sees it when they pass sentance!! Sorry for not explaining it properly!!
-
Do you not think that in the eyes of the law we as owners of running dogs with the ability to catch wild game have as much resposability as a bull terrier owners to keep there dogs under control to prevent accidents!!!

At what age do YOU enter a dog to live game
cooper101 replied to FightTheBan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My ground is dotted with houses overlooking my fields I have been lucky enough to gain the trust and respect from the local farmers and landowners as a decent lurchermen!! A respect long lost through years of fools terrorising the area and livestock!! I'm closley watched by people around who are keen to stop the type of hunting I do!! So I can't afford any mistakes by my dogs!! I appreciate your opinions and respect them but my area is this way and I have to respect that if I want to continue working my dogs around there!!! Sorry to hijack the thread lads sure your boored of me now!! ATB -

cooper101 replied to FightTheBan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
in response to your question on manners my dogs are taught to work off the slip they know not to go until I give the go ahead if I didn't have these manners they would run the first thing they see when the lamp goes on somthing I won't stand for!! I can recall my dog even if he's on a bunnies arse somthing I'm very proud of!! This is a very handy trick in certain situations!! You may not like this but it's my style and it works for me!!! -
At what age do YOU enter a dog to live game
cooper101 replied to FightTheBan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
No I was stating that until my pup was ready and under my control I wouldn't enter it to game however long it took me!! I was meaning it as in I don't have a specific age I enter them I enter when I feel they are ready and I have control of them!! You allways look to make people seem foolish whin and I don't understand why??? -

after I have got manners out of my pup then and only then will I let it see any game!! That could range from 6 months to 2 years if the manners arent there I won't waste my time!!!! -
And they all lived Happily ever after! THE END................

3 options really. 1. Buy a pump... Pay around £90 - £150 and just pump the rifle as and when required. 2. Buy a Bottle £130 - £200 fill from a dive centre or local gun shop for approx £10 (you will get alot of shooting out of a large 300 bar bottle) 3. Get the rifle filled at your local gun dealer. Expensive way of doing it and not recommended. Hope this helps.. thanks for that probly go for the hand pump option as i dont really do alot of shooting !! thanks for the reply
