I am glad to here that it was helpful. PM me if you have any other questions and i will always be glad to help. Those are lovely pictures. What breeds of Goat and Sheep do you have? Certainly with my Shetlands, although some do not have horns, they are a great help when you need to catch them up!!

Some of our ewes have lambed unexpectedly early this year and so some have lambed outside, this is a bit of a nightmare. We have brought them all in today and so they rest can lamb in the safty of being in a shed in the main farmyard close to the house so that I can keep an eye on them.

Yes I do, that problem is common when you dont do it. As for the rotten ones you do get them from time to time and obviously more so in a larger flock. % of the un-born lambs growth happens in the last four weeks of the ewes pregnancy and this is also the most common time for metabolic diseases to occur. The rotten lamb foetuses you have had are probably down to abortion. Most flocks suffer abortion caused by infection, rough handling, or barging at the feed trough. A normal incidence in usually 1-2%. Enzootic abortion and toxoplasmosis account for % of abortions and both can be con

Yes I have, however this lamb is not very large mate. So the price reflects the size. They range from 14 kilos to 19 kilos. That is what the latest batch were at. As I said they are not a very large breed and as such they are not commercial, but they are a supreme quality of meat

Shetlands are not a rare breed, no. BUT they have one of the best fleeces you can get. Although they are not the biggest lambs you can get, they certainly are one of they tastiest PLUS in my experience they are also one of they easiest sheep to maintain.

Hi All, I am a farmer and the proud owner of 58 in lamb Shetland ewes. To day I went to feed my sheep and found that I had two lambs off of one ewe and one more off another with its sibling on the way! The first Lambs are boys and one is white with black patches on his eyes and the other is all white. The second arrivals of the day are black with white patches on there heads. There navels have been dipped in iodine and they are up and running about like mad! More updates will follow as the lambing proceeds and pictures will be available when I bring them in, in the next few d

oldmantanner replied to John-B's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
On its own mate thats the best way to drink it -
I do a lot of this so I will tell you the best way and with very little cost. First you need to stretch out the pelt and tack it on to a plywood board. Then, using a blunt edge so as not to tear the pelt, scrape all of the fat and membrane off of the pelt. The remove the brain from the animal, every animal has enough brain material to tan its own hide, and mix with one and a half cups of lukewarm water. Cook this for ten mins and mash until you have an oily mixture, split into equal amounts. Rub this all over you pelt and then leave over night. next morning lightly sand the pe
