Do more research!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before trying to look after a creature that totally dependent on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi any pictures?

Colour choice entirely what you prefer.

It could be too much or it could possibly be hormones causing her to have a very heay moult, it has happened to mine in the past. It usually makes the tail go bald. Don't worry it will soon rectify itself.

If you are weaning them on mince only that is your problem. There is no calcium in it so you will need to add a calcium supplement. If you start now you may be able to the weaker ones right.
-
The best permanent solution is to get oneor both castrated, as a castrated hob will not have the hormonal changes in sring and so will happily live with other ferrets all year round. Hope this helps.

Just make sure she has plenty of food and fresh water. If you like you can give her lactol as an extra supplement.

Try to find a ferret club near you. These usually attend game and country fairs doing PR which will often include ferret racing. Get in touch and offer your help and this way you will be able to race your ferrets and promote them in a positive way. Hope this helps

It would have been a good idea to read up on breeding first, then you would know the answer to a basic question as that. I hope you have good homes lined up for surplus kits.

I first had a polecat hob delivered by road courier, AMTRAK I think (the driver said it had stunk out his van). I then visited them and the ferrets were either in a long shed about 30' x 10' with cages floor to ceiling on both sides and if you couldn't find one in there then there were about 200 housed in old pig stys. I brought a albino and polecat jill and a white hob. The albino turned out to be pregnant (she had 10). The polecat was the best tempered ferret I have ever owned and she was a fine worker. She lived until she was about 13 years old. I went there in the early mid eighti

I hope that all these kits have homes? If not that will be more in rescue....just what they need....NOT. A local rescue near me in Kent has at least 100 ferrets for rehoming so no need to breed!!!! I am sure there are other rescues with just as many. They all need homes.

The only thing with summer meat feeding is the risk of food poisoning. Be very careful to clean out every scrap of untouched food. As anything left behind will soon get fly blown with risk of maggots which will soon hatch into more flies and the more flies the less popular you are going to be with family/neighbours. I still believe that complete food is better in the summer unless you live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours to complain. Just my opinion.

Just be patient. Try and work them with an experienced worker. They will then pick up what they are supposed too do.
-
Use a vet!! That is what they are there for!!

In the past is where it should stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's posts and responses like this gets ALL ferret owners/workers a bad name. And I stupidly thought that is what we were trying to avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To anyone that has built their own court...
Davidh replied to Aaron_butcher's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
How about making frame of plastic sheeting so that you can drop it over the front too keep out the worst of the winter weather. Then it can be rolled up when not needed and stored on top of the run, you could fix a batton along the front of the court and attach the sheeting to that and weight the bottom down with a couple of bricks so that rain cannot get underneath it. Hope this is of some use. Bye the way how is that albino jill doing? -
I agree with ferret-land post. If all complete animal was the same nutritional make up why would there be so many on the market? I have always fed a specially manufactured ferret complete and will continue to do so. If cost is the most important factor to any owner perhaps they should consider whether keeping an animal of any sort is really a good idea, alternatively perhaps if there are more than one owner willing to feed same complete food why not see if buying in bulk is not a way of making it cheaper.

I use cardboard boxes and carry bage as long as they have a hole or two cut in them. If you can get them large cardboard tubes are also good. It really comes down to what you can get hold of and your imagination.
-
I would always separate the hobs. I don't think it is worth taking the risk. You could leave the jills to raisze their kits together, only you know how your jills will react when they have kits. Hope this helps.

I thought at first it was a joke, never seen anything like it before. I think stevethefish mate has European polecats as if they are jet black they cannot be marbled!! I have a couple of euro crosses and they do take more handling but as good as any other ferret with the right handling. I don't think that there are any marbled polecats in the UK as they are not a native species and I cannot see why people would use them to cross with a working ferret.
-
As has been said before anything only worth what people will pay for it. I have brought EU polecats for £40.00 and £50.00 each some say I was mad but I and only I made the decision to buy them.

You have to get passports for your ferrets (good luck with getting them to sit in a photo booth)!! HA HA. Seriously they will have to have micro chips and a rabies jab. Your vet will be able to tell you what needs to be done and how long it takes. Best of luck.
