Leicester hunter replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Good on yer . Just the interview to go now eh? No pressure :drag: Thanks! Seriously though, should there be anything which i should be wary of during interview? My thoughts are that the force will try everything possible to NOT pass any FAC, but as long as I stick to my genuine reasons i should be ok? help?!? if john collins interviews you ,you will have no bother ..hes a gent ! Im not sure who looks after my area (east leicester) Have spoken to a guy called Paul Mummery several times, and he has been massively helpful, but said he doesnt cover thi -

The interview is the easy bit, just get the cream cakes and coffee ready, show him your finest collection of Malts and insist he samples a few, impress him with your collection of nunchucks, stars and knives, World War II posters of your hero Adolf and tell him you can get him a deal on BNP membership as you know all the top people!! Problem solved! PS. Make sure he knows that 6 month spell you spent in the special care ward is over now and you have no further recurrence since your release a couple of weeks ago! Awesome! <--- Goes to tesco to buy cakes and finest coll -

No that's not an AYA Yeoman (they are a 'nail' not a gun). Yours is no nail, and someone paid Westley Richard's about 5x the cost of a 'Yeoman' to make new barrels for it. Yours is most likely a Birmingham boxlock from the 1950's, I've seen 100's like it, but that said it's only worth £350>£500 on a good day, nice gun! Make sure you use it! AndyF Thanks for all your help. Its a cracking little gun, swings beautifully, and I do use it plenty. As i said, had it a couple of years, and only paid £150 for it anyway!

Hi all, I've had this 12 bore SS now for a couple of years, but cant figure out what make it is? Its on my licence as a Westley Richards, but after contacting them, they say its not one of theirs, they simply re sleeved it. (Says Westley Richards sleeved on the barrells) Ive enclosed a few pics. I think it maybe an AYA or Yeoman? Any ideas? Cheers

I had this last year. Been dead for 20 mins or so, then when i split her, there were 5 in there, all very much alive. Have to admit, it did make me jump!

Well I have finally sent my FAC application off. (Well hand delivered to the actual person that receives them in the post!) Just wanted to say a massive thanks to all of you who have answered my mostly silly questions, and provided me with some superb answers. Heres looking forward to getting my ticket! (And many more stupid questions to follow!)
-
i assume then that if you have a closed ticket, any new permissions you get which aren't cleared, you just send the written permission in again with details of the land and wait for it to be passed as usual?

Specific FAC question... calibre and deer
Leicester hunter replied to farmershort's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Fantastic guides! thanks very much! one last thing if anyone is still listening... rifle ranges in leicestershire? google search yields not much... Hi mate, Am too in Leicester. There is a range at Kibworth, although only 30 yds and not sure of max calibre etc, but I know there is a decent outdoor range at Switherland. I havent been there, and dont know the name, but i also believe there is an indoor range in leicester itself. Sorry, but not really needing the ranges, i dont know of any more. Brill, I'll try and track down the swithland one then, I'm very close to th -
Ok, Well went out last night to the same spots, tried the filter, and have to say it worked great! Yes they still know its there and eventually get spooked, but their eyes show up like anything, and if held on the edge of the beam will stay there for a good 30-40 seconds, More than good enough. Had 3 anyway at the same spot ive blanked twice. Well done, and it's all worth a try, but all you have done is shine a much reduced light intensity at them which is a bit red!! To be honest I don't think there is an answer here, use filters by all means and if you get a Dimm

Specific FAC question... calibre and deer
Leicester hunter replied to farmershort's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I may be mis informed, and very ready to admit it... I was lead to believe, by a few shooters, that a .308 is the 'sensible gun' for deer shooting. and that the legal minumum calibre is only slightly below this, (although I'm aware there is a difference between england and scotland). I'm not a gun geek, I will fail technical questions about calibres... as I say, not interested in the sport side, just want to hunt for food. From what I know about rim fires, they're only a slight upgrade from a good air rifle, and only good for rabbits and vermin. again, please correct if I'm wrong. We h -

with any rifle you must prove you have reason to own one. Generally this is having permission (written) from a landowner/farmer to shoot on his land. The said land also needs to be rated for the type of calibre you are applying for. (This is done by the police). Being a member of a shooting club also can be good reason to own one, but i belive you have to have been at the club regulary for at least 6 months. You also need 2 referees willing to vouch for you during the application process. Your local policeforce's website will have the relevant forms on you need to apply with.

Fox Control in built up areas
Leicester hunter replied to rowey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It's deepest surburbia mate. Only the cemetery is open and beyond that more houses. Spoke to BASC and they confirmed its up to me as someone said earlier. I may well borrow a mates nightvision set up and go at 2 or 3 in the morning. There is a 160 acre farm a mile from it where we shot 23 off in no time so you can see the problem. 23? thats some going mate! -
i have the deben lamp and a dimmer is £40! Just spoke to maplins, and am on me way to get something from them sorted. They cant help. Looks like ill be trying full power with red filter tonight then!

Anyone give me some quick advise on lamp filters? Have been struggling recently with massively lamp shy rabbit. as soon as they see the flick of a light, they are gone. Do the red filters help as ive just picked one up? cheers

get out there and ask mate. Harsh, but i believe its the only way. took me well over 2 years to get my first permission, and it wasnt through not trying. The land owners will want get the feel for you first, as they havent the time to worry about ahet you are doing. The old saying is that for every 9 knockbacks, you will get 1 permission. About right in my case. (or they just dont like the look of me!)

Fox Control in built up areas
Leicester hunter replied to rowey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think what rowey is stating is that he is aware of the legal issues etc, just wants an easy way to not upset the locals! (if one exists!?!?!) good luck with that one mate!
