  4. Just thought id share a great days ferreting I had with Spicer91 on Sunday. We had picked up 7 new ferrets the day before to add to the 3 that we already had. We were really keen to see how they worked so we headed for a great bit of permission at a private school in the village. Lovely open warrens with loads of rabbits about. I had a great day there already earlier in the season. The first warren was in an open plantation area. About 15 holes were netted and the ferrets entered. Not long after, a starter bolted straight through the net but the terrier soon got hold of it much to my a
  5. I use a boarder cross patterdale dog for my ferreting. Hes quick as lightning and terrified of the ferrets, ideal. He is a bit keen at the moment, disturbing nets and such, but i wouldnt go without him now. Hope this helps
  6. thanks thats a great idea, a cuddly toy is going in tomoro! I like the idea of kits, i did think of that. Just hope she would take to them. I dont spose it would matter what sex they are?
  7. Ive got a 1 year old albino jill that i bought in the middle of the last season and shes a great worker! I tried to house her with my other two jills but after several attempts and a lot of vicious fights i gave up. The Jill in question lives on her own in a large two stroey hitch at the moment and she is bored stiff. Keeps trashing the cage and spends a good deal of the day biting at the bars of the cage. I thought that this would soon stop but it has carried on for months now. I used to be able to put her in the large run i have with the other two for about 30 mins before they started fi
  8. She is going at her hard but the new jill has taken residence in the sleeping area whilst the other two are sleeping elsewhere. This morning when i checked them, all three were in different areas asleep. Just seems to have upset the balence a bit. I will try housing the them in a neutral hutch and running them in the garden at the weekend and see how that goes. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
  9. I recently obtained new jill and shes a great worker however one of my other jills has taken a serious disliking to her. Whenever they are together they fight untill the new one runs away. They are not sleeping together and there hasnt been any improvement for 2 weeks now. How long should i give them before looking at seperation, or will they just get on with it in the end? Many Thanks

  13. Yeh i think that is going to be best, we did give it a go a while back in the living room. Dog was on a lead and ferts were running about. It all got a bit caotic and as i picked up one of the ferrets she gave it a little taste. She is extremely soft mouthed but i think i over reacted a little bit. Hopefully give it another go later on. You dont think the dog may be too old to be introduced to them then? Shes just over a year
  14. Hello, ive got a year old whippet/beddy bitch and during a walk round she seemed really keen in the burrows on the farm and actually marked a couple of them. Shes never had any training as she is my girl friends dog but i was wondering if i could use her with the ferrets. Any tips on how to introduce her to my two gills. I dont want to have prize my dead ferret out of her over excited jaws!! Im quite new to it but i can see how having a dog with you whilst ferreting can make it much more fun so im keen to give it a go if you guys think its possible. Thanks
  15. I know several terrier men locally so it will get them to run their dogs over it. Good tip about the lamping, may give that a go this week end! We are flooded with the brown b**tards this year!

  18. Had a wonder round some holes at the farm the other day, places i had a go at last year with good results. A large proportion had what looked like fox or badger crap in them??!! Any one come across this before. I am quite new to the sport and dont want to send my jills in with a browny just yet!! Are these holes best left alone?? Many thanks
  19. Ive got a polecat jill in the same boat, wont eat raw meet and doesnt seem that interested with rabbits either. Anyone had any good experiences of them coming good in the end?? Cant wait to get back out there!
  20. I feed the james wellbeloved and another cheaper biscuit as well as paunched bunnies
  21. Thanks for all the advice guys, top stuff. I would never get rid of her, dont believe in that, i bought her so she my responsibility! Looking forward to next season and lots of handling over the summer. Im sure she will come good in the end. Many thanks again
  22. Thanks all, shes about 2 years, she has only been out a couple of time so i spose i should be more patient. Im sure there are rabbits in the holes becuase after pulling her out we have flushed them with other ferrets. Il just have to wait till next season and hope she gets the hang of it, she wont learn anything in her box afterall. Thanks very much
