That is my worry with my lurcher as i know if a rabbit breaks cover my lurcher will give chase and i think it would be unfair to tell him to leave it as i have been training him for 2 years nearly to chase and catch rabbits. they get on fine when out and dont bother each other at all but saying that a rabbit has never been chased when i have had them both out together. I think i would prefer a pointer but wouldnt rule out a springer or cocker as i would like to use a dog for rough shooting and working with the lurcher. What do you prefer mate springer or cocker and how different are they in

Just would like to know how many of you use dogs in falconry and what dogs you use. I planned on getting a 2nd lurcher but now really thinking on getting a dog for falconry maybe a german or english pointer but would like to hear your thoughts and views. Also does anyone use a lurcher and if so how does that work im sure i have read on here that some are using lurchers. Can anyone suggest any good books, dvds or anyother information on training a dog to use in falconry and the different breeds and characteristics. Thanks

went out with Thor today with the ferrets at last after being let down a few times. we only used the one ferret at a time as it was the first time Thor would of seen a ferret in the field and was worried in case Thor nailed one as one was easier to watch out for. At first he wasnt to sure what to make of it but didnt take long to ignore the ferret everytime it popped out from a rabbit hole but i still didnt let him go and kept him on the fist. We bolted the first rabbit quiet quick and Thor went after it but seemed to pull out half way through the chase. The 2nd one was the same again and

i would use BOP netting mate got mine from knowls netting very cheap, wire will damage your bird if it flies into it and other animals like foxes can walk on it and worry your bird with the netting they wont and he will need an open area mate so he can weather or you will need to bow him in the garden mate when you dont fly him

Of course a mentor is the best way forward but people will get a bird with or without one so give them all the information they need to hopefully put them off but also all the help they might need so hopefully the bird will be looked after. And breeders need to take some responsibilities when selling birds, again not all breeders are the same but as grovsey correctly pointed out because there easier to breed there will be always breeders in it for a quick quid, just would be nice to hear people slatting these type of people as i see it without them there would be a lot less birds in trader an

shello and jaspa totally agree with yous we all have are own ideas and ways of doing things mate and i thought it got interesting without getting over the top. at the end of the day we all agree the birds no matter what you fly should always come first and give them the best you can because the bird will always give you 100%. What if he cant get a mentor thats near him ?? are you offering to mentor him then mate ? Like he says mate get a harris hawk like the rest of us useless twats and just hope for the best mate thats what we all do. if he cant find a mentor then dont get a bird i say,am i offering ,no why cos im already mentoring 2 people here ,one in york, and one of here .and ur last quote is very mature I dont think anyone disagrees with you on what your saying its the way you say it. You are always talking down to people and i think your ISSUES should be with breeders not people buying HHs. I t

Thanks everyone ill suggest a post mortem to him which is something i would do because losing 6 ferrets is a lot. i dont think they are from same blood lines but will double check with him. the suggestion of maybe some rotten meat i think is good thinking as my first thoughts were a posion or eaten something off. -
if you pause a few times when that falcon hits that pheasent the falcon is knocked out for sure. ive only been out with my mates lanner a few times and even i thought when i seen that clip they swapped birds it looks twice as big when it flying but i could be wrong. shame if the falcon was hurt though i hope im wrong

a mate of mine phoned me today and said 2 of his hob ferrets had died over the weekend and 4 had died before that earlier in the year they were all hobs, some intact some not, different ages but they had all died the same way very fast weight loss, backends not working and drawlling. he keeps them in good conditon and good food so i said i would ask on here for him if anyone has any ideas on what might be causing this or if anyone else has had ferrets with the same symptoms. he also has 6 gills but hasnt had any problems with them. thanks for reading
