  1. I actually feel quite sorry for you that you can't take pleasure from other people's success. I don't know whether you shoot or not, but pulling off a perfect headshot from 40+ yards is extremely satisfying no matter how many times you have done it before. On this part of the forum we respect each others marksmanship as we all fully appreciate how difficult it is and how much time and dedication goes into every single kill. Perhaps you should provide us with photo's and a write up of your upcoming cricket bat hunting trips, we'd all love to see how you get on!
  2. "thinks u put a topic up just to see what they think of your ferret n get abuse :(."

Don't worry about it mate - they seem to love getting on their soap boxes in the ferreting forum! You're ferret/european polecat looks lovely mate, just enjoy it and stuff what other people think/say!!

  3. as soon as i find my locator collars just dont no where they are If only there was some kind of special locating device that could help you find them...!!
  4. Hi Phantom, Technically speaking we live in "The United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland" so oddly enough Northern Ireland doesn't come under the bracket of Great Britain... just thought you might be interested. You never know, it might even come up in a Pub Quiz some time!!
  5. I find blowing in their faces works quite well as a disciplinary measure. They hate it for some reason, and you don't run the risk of injuring them. I've only ever had to stop ferrets nipping rather than full on biting though, but it might be worth a try.
  6. Hi Shaun, I would be a little bit reluctant to point out problem areas to the farmer when you approach them actually - farmers will walk their fields every week and they will know where the problems are. Telling them how to do their job may end up having the opposite reaction to what you are hoping to achieve. I would actually be inclined to go the opposite way and say you're interested in shooting rabbits and ask him if he has many and where the worst areas are. We get a handful of people coming along asking us for permission to shoot/hunt on our farm each year and it can be quite patroni
  7. Yes, I use JSB Exacts, and get on really well with them. I've also used AA Fields, and the JSB's shoot just as well as the AA's from my experience. Price wise, they're about the same (maybe 50p cheaper or so) from where I get them, so it hasn't saved me a fortune. Another thing I've noticed is that a tin of JSB's seems to have less damaged pellets than a tin of AA's, but maybe I've just been lucky with that. Has anyone used FX Pellets? I've been told they're just as good as AA's and JSB's and I was wondering if this was true?
  8. I arrived at the family farm tonight ready for a bit of rabbit shooting, and to my surprise saw the front door of the house wide open... no-one has been living at the farm for over a year, and seeing that there were no cars on the drive this was a little strange. After 30 seconds or so of just staring at it I finally plucked up enough courage to investigate it further. Trying to be brave, I boldly (for "boldly" read "gingerly") searched the house, room by room ensuring there were no squatters or anyone trying to find a home. (It wouldn't be the first time we'd had trespassers but I'll save the
  9. Thank you all for helping me out - so far THL is only place I've asked people to do it and I've had 21 responses already which is brilliant. There's still room for more though if anybody else wouldn't mind doing it? It only takes a minute or two! Thanks guys, it's a great help, Nathan Ps. Thanks Aaronpigeonplucker - duly noted!!
  10. Hello mate, Exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mines rifle... his was an underlever SMK, rather than a weihrauch though. In his case nothing had actually broken, it had just become seperated for some reason. All I did was took the under-lever cocking arm mechanism off of the end where it was still attached to give myself a bit more room to work with, then simply slotted it back in to position. Re attaching the cocking arm was a little fiddley but nothing too demanding. As for the mystery nut... I have absolutely no idea!! Did it definitely come out of the mechanism? It appears
  11. Hi everyone, I'm currently doing an Engineering Degree with the Open University, and for my next product design assignment I'm looking into the possibility of designing and manufacturing an Air Rifle cleaning kit of some description. Before doing this I need to research users needs, so I was wondering if as many of you as possible would mind completing a quick on-line survey? It's only ten questions so it shouldn't take you too long. The survey can be found by following this link: http://www.stellarsurvey.com/s.aspx?u=1CC71A18-4FFA-42BC-9CA1-A3E6E5A08C89& Thank you very
  12. I looked into getting one of these a few weeks ago, but the impression I got from various user reviews was that the rabbits are spooked by it really quickly. Because of that I decided against it in the end, but if you do decide to get one let us know how you get on with it!
  13. Hi Lawrence, The 1954 Pests Act used to give farmers the right to enforce their neighbours to control any rabbits that were entering on to their land but unfortunately this was scrapped fairly recently. Nobody is now legally obliged to keep rabbits under control, but that doesn't stop you from asking them. It might be worth a try - especially if you emphasise the damage that is being done (or better still, ask the land owner to explain for you). Good luck! Nath
  14. Very nice write up, I really enjoyed reading that! SPA!
  15. Hi Davey, I was at Marston on Friday, and I think I found your first crow! On my way to the front door of the farm house I saw a couple of legs sticking up out of the gutter, if it hadn't been for the leaves clogging it up I think it would have gone straight down the down pipe! It's a bit maggotty now but it's still there if you want it! Those knock downs are looking really good by the way. Hope to see you soon, Nath
  16. This is my first write up, so let’s see how it goes...! I had spent a very frustrating week shut up in the office at work, and desperately trying to write up another Open University assignment at home all week long, so it was with great relief that I finally found time to blow the cobwebs off of my HW97K and head out for a quick shooting session. I’m very fortunate to have my own land for shooting on, some of which is absolutely plagued by rabbits, but Davyt63 and myself are determined not to let them have it all their own way! As soon as I pulled in to the yard I spotted a lone rabbit
  17. Hi CuriousPerson, It's great to see someone being proactive about finding a new hobby! First of all, finding somewhere to shoot: You obviously can't just shoot anywhere, it is essential that you get permission from the landowner first. If you have a big enough garden you can start to practice with an air rifle there but you must ensure that no stray pellets leave your garden. If you don't have access to a large enough garden you will have to seek permission from a farmer or someone with plenty of space. Don't be shy, write them a letter or go around and speak to them. Most people will
  18. I'm thinking about using chalk targets (www.chalktargets.co.uk) as suggested by Davy - As long as you hit the target anywhere that counts towards your total, so don't worry about hitting the centre of the bull each time Farmboy! If you're good enough to hit a bunny, you're good enough to hit these!
  19. Hi, Just thought I'd quickly introduce myslef and answer a couple of questions myself rather than going through Davy. I'm Nathan (obviously!) and I'm currently involved with a fund raising project at my church to build a church in Botswana. We have connections with a missionary organisation working there who are in desperate need of a building. As well as running the church the missionary organisation also run the local school - they have nearly 300 students and only one teacher. The money we are aiming to raise this year will be spent equally between building a permanent church building in
