Tried some of them Spun Poly but, i always put my hand in the Net Bag and get out the 10z with nice heavy Rings....... i cant fault the 10z, they are a pleasure to use

She is a real handy Bitch around a Warren thats for sure..... I have said it before and i will stand by what i say... Just because a Dog is taken out with Ferrets etc..... DOES NOT MAKE IT A FERRETING DOG, a Ferreting Dog is worth its own weight in Gold How often do you see a FERRETING DOG up for sale???????hardly ever, if one does come up for grabs due to work commitments/marriage break up etc.... its snapped up by Lads who have seen the Dog doing its job I have seen a few TOP QUALITY ones over the years.... 3 belong

Wildrover..... I will ask Fireman to put some up for me, to high-tech for me

Had a few of them Blues/Blacks/Dutchies (White Collar/Band) but only on Moorland or Fields next to Moorland....... I could be wrong but could it have something to do with inbreeding????????
-
Well, i am more than happy with my Half Cross...... Mine is fine around other people and dogs BUT, DIFFERENT BALL GAME WHEN HE IS BACK ON HOME TURF...... they have a real strong guarding instinct My Half Cross is quite quick for a Half Cross but, a Rabbit on FAST GROUND has him well beat.... just lacks that extra gear. Use him mainly for Ferreting and Lamping so, he suits me down to the ground. I am not sure if all ACD's and there Crosses are like this????? but, mine from a Young Age has had an obsession with water..... Sea/River/Lake/Pond/Puddle..... HE HAS TO BE IN IT

Yes, they are very relaxing to watch but at times..... they make you want to tear your hair out hence, thats why i am as Bald as a Badgers knacker sack I will get some in the distant future when i have alot more time on my hands. When i worked at Caterpiller on back shift..... it was ideal (3:30pm-11:30pm) could go straight out for a shine and fly the birds during the day..... now, go to work in the dark and come home in the dark...........

It's moments like that -when you are stuck with your head down a hole and backside in the air that you pray you hav'nt misjudged your ferreting companions ! No need to panic until you hear the sound of there Zip

Duckwings stock is ALWAYS in tip top condition and they want for nothing which is why i let him have a bird or 2 when he started up......... Hopefully one day, i will have more time on my hands to Fly a kit or 2 and i know Duckwing will be the 1st there to breed me a Youngster or 2

I always give the Purse Nets a little flick so the bottom ring goes inside the mouth of the hole.... Make sure the bag of the net is not to spread out across the turf, the Animal comes out from THE HOLE.... NOT through soil . Once you are happy with the way you have set your Net???? i always place the Peg as far away as possible.... this means that the Net is already Pursing the second the Target Species hits it

Same here Tommy, still lots of undergrowth but the Longnets are still getting plenty of use...... roll on the frosty mornings

That grin on his face says it all

caterpiller replied to matt1e's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Ferrets will love it but, has it got a solid roof????? The rain water is going to fall against your garage wall and back into the run or soak into in the brickwork of your garage........ -
I got a new Triple the other day..... John even took the time out to drop it off on a Sunday

netted rabbits do you prefer dog to hold or leave
caterpiller replied to matty73's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I like to the Dog to cover the Rabbit in a Purse Net but in the Long Net is a strict no no The Dog can get there far quicker than me..... there's a difference between a Dog covering a Bolt to a Dog thats about as much use as a Chocolate Fireguard on a Days Ferreting where you have to wrestle the Rabbit,Net&Peg from half way down its throat I have said it before and will say it again.... Just because a Dog is taken out with the Ferrets DOES NOT make it a Ferreting Dog. I have seen Dogs Smash into Longnets, go AWOL, and generally be a pain in the arse all day I have a Bitch here, mark -
You need a good marking dog otherwise you will end up wasting alot of time Ferreting empty Warrens I like the Dog to cover the Rabbits in the Purse Nets.... he can get there far faster than me ( There's a difference between a Dog covering a bolt and a Dog where you have to pull the Rabbit and Purse Net from halfway down its throat just because a Dog is taken out Ferreting DOES NOT MAKE IT A FERRETING DOG!!!!!!!!!! I have a Bitch here........ total waste of time Ferreting with her....... she will Mark,Bombproof around the Ferrets but she has a major fault.... once there is a lull in the

When you are out Ferreting and the Dog gives you a good solid mark... You can almost see his eyes burning into the turf then gives you that look as if to say '' Come on then, hurry up and get those stinkers in ''...........

I kicked off the Ferreting Season yesterday. Only stayed a few hours as my mate had to get back, didnt do to bad, got 29 and i lost a wrestling bout with one that hit the Longnet....... Ferreted a little patch of Gorze, just ran the Longet round and dropped a couple of the Ferrets in. Within a minute, the 1st Rabbit made a break for it but was brought to a sudden halt by the Longnet.... I ran over and made a grab for it and before i knew it, the little f*cker had sank its Teeth into the end of my finger :censored: its been years since i was last bitten but, i took it like a Man and carried

Get them in and get them Rabbits on the move.... its pointless just putting in one Ferret
-
That one on the right looks very much like your old 1st cross ACD/Greyhound Wildrover
-
Looks a nice healthy litter Wildrover and, i like the look of the sire
-
I got the 1st DVD and i thought it was really well made. The picture quality etc.... is second to none.

Good Harwood Pegs. Round off and Sand (if your ferreting and pushing pegs in all day its alot kinder on your hands ) I then soak mine in Teak Oil for a week or so in an old Sweet Jar. Hang them for a few days to dry out and them paint the Tops of the Pegs to a bright Colour of your choice.

10 week old pup shitting in its bed
caterpiller replied to ningbo's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
As already said, make the sleeping quarters smaller with a temp partition and move as he/she grows. As she is still a young pup on split feeds, try feeding outside of the run with access to your lawn, once its had its fill, it should want to go and empty itself on the lawn, it only takes a second to pick up -
Nightmare Mate. Someone is going to get a bargain, that Dog is for nothing at that price for a FERRETING DOG.
-
Good luck in finding the Dog a good home, that is a bargain for a Ferreting Dog, a good Ferreting dog is worth its own weight in gold. Looks a handy tool mate
