    Had a Collie who tagged along on Ferreting Days when i was younger but it was NO FERRETING DOG.....he was just a Dog who was taken out........useless if i am honest.......never marked and would not pick up Rabbits he just used to herd them. To be fair to the Dog though.......he was never brought up as a FERRETING DOG....he was just a house pet. It was a shame really.....he was a very bright Dog with a fantastic temperament and had he of been brought up and schooled correctly.....he may of made a handy Dog. I imagine a Collie brought up and schooled correctly would make a really good FERRET

    Had a couple of Digs yesterday.....had 2 lots of 2 in a stop end. Both stops were full of nesting material and plucked belly fur yet none of the Rabbits were full of young and showed no signs of suckling older kittens perhaps they were just old nests

    Yes.....get yourself some cards printed up offering a FREE service and visit as many Farms/Estates as you can. Join the Countryside Alliance/Basc or another organisation and that will cover your insurance part of it. Visit the Farms/Estates in Smart but Casual clothes..........DONT go cammo'd up looking like some form of human tree just be brief and polite in explaining your intentions. A lot will just tell you to Feck off BUT........DONT give up.........just keep at it and someone will give you a chance Once you get some permission DONT take every Man and his Dog along........jus

Good RELIABLE Ferreting partners are hard to come by.........most cant peel the mattress off there backs and others just TALK ABOUT IT Off out myself in the morning with the Stinkers so hopefully..... we will have a good days sport and not to many digs

    Been out and got a big Dog Fox myself........laid up in a big mound of Roots/Branches/Cuttings on a Landfill site. Yeh Alli......the Dog Foxes have certainly got a bit of Fire in there bellys now........took me about an hour and a half to cut my way into the Dog. Tuggin and Night-Hunter off here turned up to give me a hand......cheers Lads

    I have some of a Bitch that a pal has down south but they arnt very good quality. Really nice Bitch actually......quite racy but still retains that chunk from the ACD. One of the nicest crosses of this type i have seen a pic of is a Bitch Chalkwarren bred from his class act 'Speckle' put to i believe a Whippet????? A Bitch called 'Dotty'....what a stunning looking animal she was :wub:

    I bet the Mrs. helped you with that task Fireman i cant talk.... i am more than useless on these things I will sort a load more out.......got some good pics of him working with the Longnets etc..... i am over the moon with him as a Ferreting partner. I started taking him out breaking him to the Longnets etc....when he was 16weeks old, i just kept the sessions short and sweet and took him where there was a good population of Rabbits.

    Just a thought......it might be worth your while ringing all the Tree Surgeons in your local area saves them paying for Landfill duty or burning it themselves

    Yes....get them chipped, you stand a much better chance of having them returned to you if they are ever lost or stolen. Cant say every Council does it???? but my Local Council Chips your Dogs for Free

    As stated but some Bitches will stand much earlier and some will stand much later..... all dogs are different but as a general rule.... the 12th and 14th is about right. The Bitch will let you and the Stud Dog know when she is ready

    Some Rabbits feed early..... some feed late..... Lamp different areas at different times and make a mental note for future reference. I Lamp a couple of Fields at the back of a Pub Car Park 10minutes from home if i have forgot to take some Ferret food out of the Freezer or if one of the Dogs is just coming back from an injury..... its a handy little place where you can always get half a dozen. Because of the noise from the Car Park..... Doors slamming etc.... these Rabbits are out early but.... sat on there Doorsteps I leave it until well after closing time and the Rabbits are wel

    My Ferreting partner is exactly the same.... showed him a million times.......he CANT kill a Rabbit in the Net and still does the HONG KONG FUEY CHOP so now, he just hands them to me. Another strange thing he USED to do was straight after i had placed the DEAD Rabbit on the floor was try and take it straight out of the Net.....often the Rabbits claws left there mark on his hands FFS...THE RABBIT IS DEAD AND GOING NOWHERE leave its nervous system to shut down then it is simplicity in itself to pull the 2 rings apart and take the Rabbit out of the Net

    Looks nice Mooching ground Wildrover..... Good luck out with the Stinkers in the morning. Had a few hours out with the Stinkers and 'Jake' saturday morning. Ferreted some nice little Sets along the verge at the side of a Lane that borders some of my permission. Only small 6-10 holers etc.... so it was a case of Ferrets in..... Rabbits out..... bolted like steam trains Only had 1 Dig..... a massive 18inches to 3 Bottled up in a stop end A Farmer stopped on his way to a Shoot day and joined us for ten minutes just as we were moving up the Lane. Dog gave me a good solid mark so netted

    Nothing wrong with taking a Pup of that age out Ferreting as long as you use some COMMON SENSE. My ACD cross was taken out Ferreting at that age.....our Ferreting sessions were kept short and sweet. He learnt from a Young age to ' Honour ' the Longnets etc.... an Adult Lurcher hitting the Longnet full bore does the Dog and Net no good at all. As long as the sessions are short and sweet.....put up an extra bit of grub and take your Young Scholar out..... he/she will LEARN NOTHING stuck at home

    Shane..... i have a little Polecat Jill you can take. A lad at work found her wandering along the Lane on his way to work so he picked her up and brought her into work for me. She had been out a while.... very thin and dehydrated but she is how she should be now. She is very good to handle but..... i have never taken her out so i dont know if she is any good as a working Ferret or not I wanted to build her up 1st before i took her out. PM me if you would like to take her and i will give you my address etc.....

YES....THERE IS NO NEED to slag the Girl off in anyway..... she probably bought the Dog as what it is advertised at. The person who bred the Litter may not even know his Bitch had been ' Caught ' by another Dog BUT.... The Dog is plainly NOT what it is alleged to be so it is so it should be advertised accordingly.     Ferreted the verge at the side of a Country Lane that borders one of my Permissions. Arranged to do a Wood with some extra Lads but once again..... they had back trouble they could'nt peel the mattress of it Did'nt do to bad actually..... only small places so it was a case of Ferrets in......Rabbits out. Only had one Dig..... a massive 18'' to 3 in a Stop end A Farmer pulled up and watched us for 10minutes on his way to a Shoot Day..... arranged to show us round his place next week so that was a nice bonus. Ended up with 27 Rabbits and some more permission
