  1. Looks like a dog that sould be capable physically. Some degree of agression should show as it matures. What about bolting a few with the ferrets when your on your own with him Might trigger him off if he gets excited enough GOOD LUCK
  2. Keeps the discipline polished as well. Cant walk them enough me thinks
  3. As manyas 70,two longnets and a stop net. Net up the every warren i can until the nets run out. Rabbits that escape are usually back netted. Mooch round local as few as half a dozen
  4. Just be careful if it has become a public walkway. Could be county councils. Had problems before with do gooders, and that was with permission
  5. Bit possessive, should get better once the dog is fully familiarised with the real thing Saluki crosses can sometimes do this- mine did. I tried the walk away approach-did help a bit Then i tried the crouch down in the field and dont keep calling it approach. This method seemed to work better for me. Dont worry stick to the training and as the dog matures it should start to bring them closer and closer in Whatever you do stay calm
  6. I stand mine up otherwise i would forget it
  7. As albert said- walk over the brambles until they are flat. I usually have a couple of pairs of trousers on for this kind of work- saves the legs a bit. I also wear a pair of leather gloves and carry a pair of secatures. Net the holes that arn't to difficult. then enter the ferret. Some will hit the nets, others will bolt but will be confused because all their runs have been destroyed. The dog will pick these off easily. And the rest will have to be dug . as albert said in his post rabbits under heavy cover are usually quite shallow
  8. Getting the dog to trust me would be number one priority Then lead training and a few retrieves with a ball. Be patient and time will do the rest. Also i would introduce the dog to ferrets.
  9. Any ferret that works well and handles well would do for me However albinos are easy to see in cover and dim light
  10. Good way to perfect a dogs catching technique Many misses? Any dug too
  11. Good read and excellent photos Looks like a good place to hunt
  12. I think thats it whin Two very keen dog pups trying to out do one another = chaos at times. Much more enjoyable when i work one on its own
  13. I usually work my two young lurchers together Although when i do take one on its own the dog is much more in tune to what is needed. How many dogs do you work at the same time
  14. Put another ferret in The rabbit might bolt If not theirs a good chance it will be killed outright. Then out wit the spade Hard to say whether shes dragging it or the rabbits giving her a hard time Only you will know your ferrets. They are all different
  15. Brilliant in the kennel . You would think he was mute compared to my lurcherx lurcher.
  16. Its very rare you get a dog that opens up with saluki blood. So i would say patience
  17. If you know somebody that works in an office they should beable to supply you with bags of the stuff. You can also buy a shredder and do your own
  18. :Paper thats been through a shredding machine Had a bit of trouble with straw, My dogs and ferrets were plagued by ticks. Few shavings dont go amiss either you from potteries Hows the hunting going
  19. Dont take him out with ferrets until you can trust him. Introduce him to a ferret that is in a .cage.This way you wont have a dead ferret on your hands if he is dodgy. Keep introducing him every day ,be firm with the dog vocally if he proves menacing. I fear he probebly will be. After afew days of this he might start to become less excitable when he sees the ferret. If this situation does occur then take the ferret out of the cage and start to handle it Be firm with the dog if he shows aggression. Its a big ask of an older dog, especially a patterdale. Ideally i
  20. Both Daytime mooch-usually alone. Lamping ferreting two of us.
  21. I use jills at the moment.seem to get a lot more clean bolts. Smallish hob would probebly do the same job. Larger hobs seem to be more robust and can sometimes move them stubborn rabbits in large burys. However the spade might be needed a bit more often. Also the nets might have to be reset more than once. In shallow burys - no moore than a couple foot you can bag up very quickley by digging to a goodd hob that sticks a bit.In the past i have pulled out as many as seven rabbits from a stop end. The ferrets i use now rarely stick - they would be useless for this method.
  22. I use three commands, sounds like two too many
  23. How many commands does the all rounder need to respond to . What are they and in what situation would they be used
