  1. Terrier blood will also produce a dog that can bush as well as mark Terrier spanial is another handy type for ferreting
  2. A leggy terrier will serve the purpose just fine.
  3. Good luck Theydo pop up from time to time
  4. One of the best series of hunting books is the lonsdale series Foxhunting with hounds is one of many books in the series. They are as thick as a bible However they are probebly difficult to obtain due to there age i own one that covers game keeping
  5. Richard jefferies could take you there. While others sleep by Heber Percy is an inspiring read.
  6. If yer can make a mark in the frosty ground with the heel of your boot and there is no wind then its just about perfect. The dogs can hear most of whats going on around the set Must admit had some very productive outings in these sort of conditions
  7. An over zelous whack with a preist will result in the rabbitts eyes leaving there sockets. Chinning when cared out correctley is quick and humane
  8. YOUR M STICKING ON YER KEYBOARD No problem floyd
  9. Strong bond and respect. The more time you can spend with them the better
  10. sounds to me your dog and ferrets are spot on. You cant be doing anything wrong otherwise you wouldnt be getting double figure bags. Your ferrets bolted three out the set your dog has marked then set about the rats. You couldnt really ask for any more. Been handy if the dog had stuck is head in that bolt hole though
  11. I know of a saluki greyhound that retreives to hand No training was given. The lad just took it out the rest came natural
  12. Thems keen enough I like an albino meself
  13. rabbits seem to be hunkered down as well. Doing a lot more digging lately
  14. I suppose theres only so many topics you can cover before it gets repetative Then you got to start making it up
  15. Got two here one doesnt work and the other plays up Be good to know if they are repairable
  16. Seemed to get an accurate mark on me ferret a lot quicker than me mate who used the modern kit/
  17. Personally i trained my two to retrieve. Its not usually text book stuff as in live to hand although its near enough for me The lad i hunt with never even bothered to train his just spent the time mooching about with them. Two of them retreive to hand even negotiating jumps on the way back in. The third dog is still only a pup yet it bought back a squirrel that my dog had killed and left last weekend Must be instinctive to these collie type lurcher pups to bring back game to there master when taken out mooching on a regular basis. Maybe yours is of the same ilk
  18. this particular ferret was a medium sized jill . Certainly no match for a mink
  19. The lads i was with found it funny as well but they didnt enter there ferrets. Ruined a good worker that encounter.
  20. entered a ferret in a set and within a few seconds the ferret bolted out like a rabbit. The smell was awful. That particular ferret took ages to even enter a rabbit hole again let alone graft. I assumed it must have encountered a mink.

    t bar

I use one Its about 18 inches long. Handy for feeling for the rabbit if its pushed further on
  22. Mine screeches if i have it on full power when close to the collar it rights itself if i turn the power down or move the box to a higher position
  23. If they aint coming out they must be dropping in unseen holes If there is loads of cover the rabbit will keep a good distance from the dog and make good is escape by slowley creeping out and sneaking off rather than bursting from cover
  24. Never noticed seemed to be plenty of rabbit scent for the dogs. Usually struggle when its been warm a dry
