  4. going out with the ferrets for the first time tomorrow. neither me the ferrets or my bro have been before but sure thats half the craic. hopefuly it wont be too disasterous. anything that i should watch out for? thanks.
  5. i think ill give it a bash, would sand be no good to use?
  6. just been reading through some threads and noticed the use of litter trays for ferrets, is this something they take to quite quickly or do they have to be trained to it? the ferrets i have seem to use one corner, so should i just put it there? should i use sand or propper kitty litter? thanks in advance.
  7. thanks, they've come on great. the blonde one is pure agro and the dark one very gentle. blondes have more fun though im lead to beleive
  8. what would you do tomorrow if you knew you couldnt fail?

  9. lucky doesnt come close to it. i dread to thimk what might have happened.
  10. well i have the ferrets a few weeks now, they're coming on great, getting excited when i come to the hutch and all. built them a little run with some pipes and little buckets for them to play in, they're having great craic and are plumping up nicely with nice coats. to be honest they look far healthier now than when i got them. had a little 'incodent' with them the other day though, went into my pheasant pen to see had everyone made it through the night and to change food and water etc. out of the corner of my eye i see the two little ferrerts nibbling on a bit of seed. brother had left the
  11. i couldnt possibly comment on the durability of another mans pens heard the reeves dont do so good when released? might be differant success rates in differant areas.
  12. ive eaten that roo when i was in oz, was ok, the ozzy lads used to slag us saying we were eating dogfood, coz they used it with the dog nuts for their pooches.
  13. ferrets fed but phones down in the wales area
  14. plenty of lads selling them in ireland and i beleive they are a money maker for shoot orginisers on the driven shoot days. would they be classed as a sub species of pheasant or an albino version of the standard bird?
  15. thanks for your post jai, im having great fun with them, im hoping to source somw roosters and that from a poltry farm soon, unlike britan ireland is having some pretty gash weather so im bieng pretty slack in shooting woodies. . . will do my best to get out over the week.
  16. ah i know that just a thought was all, it poses the question though what impact would (for example) the reeves pheasant have on the eco system, its not as if its the rabbit or the caine toad, which were introduced to eco systems they did not belong and have had huge impacts on those eco systems. if they are after all to be used as a game species and would probably be managed by game keepers and the like would they really do any harm even though they are foreign. . . ?
  17. well ya learn something new everyday. the same could be said for all pheasants though? they're aisan birds as far as i know, probably wrong though.
  18. thanks, have a shredder myself and the lads handing out the metros at the train station are only a few yards from my house so they give me what they have left over. thanks for replies.
  19. on another forum i use someone was chatting about reeves pheasants. somebody menchined that they dont do very well when released but that hybrid ones do ok, anybody any experience with them? more out of curiosity im asking. .
  20. i only got into shooting last season and this year ive got a pen in my garden with 35 poults in it that im hoping to rear and release, you can spend all the time you want with game keepers and being shown how to do things but in my experience (in life not game keeping) theres nothing like f*****g it up yourself to learn how to do things right i say fair play better rearing poults than being stuck to a playstation or causing greef in you neighbourhood.
  21. just wondering what is the prefared bedding for ferrets, i have a two tier hutch with a sleeping compartment. (in the process of building a run for them) i have sheets of news paper for on the floor of the hutch and shredded news paper for bedding, is this adiquit or is straw or saw dust the way forward??
  22. to all those whincing at the prospect of me feeding the ferrets bread and milk, they've been on lambs heart and ferret nut for the past week, threw in a magpie the other day, they had a good tug around with it but not much else, they've had the odd egg too and are thriving. its amazing to see that they have their own personality at even this age. hav'nt had a chance to bang any woodies yet but im hoping to get out one of the next few days. thanks for all the comments.
