  4. I cant imagine any circumstances where you would lose a dog lamping, if trained , If someone did lose one i would put it down to bad training by the owner and not try to blame the breed of dog,, I agree, unless something scared the dog sh*tless and it ran in terror I dont know what but i suppose it,s possable then breed wouldn,t be the issue I know a few dog men that own saluki xs that are a pain in the ass and take an age to catch up after a run .The same reason is always given its the saluki in em it makes them head strong .The reason I think is lack of bonding training socialising and b

  7. GOOD POST CHALKIE , AND VERY TRUE ............ HAVING RUN SALUKI LURCHERS [ WONDER WHY THEY CROSSED IN LURCHER ???? THINK ABOUT IT ! ] FOR YRS AND HAVING SEEN LITERALLY THOUSANDS AT HOME AND IN THE FIELD ........................... IMO .......... ITS MORE THE WAY THEY ARE WORKED AND KENNELLED BY THE OWNERS ............ A STORY TO ILLUSTRATE .......... A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE WAS HAVING A REALLY TERRIBLE TIME WITH SOME WELL BRED SALUKI LINES ...... HE HAS WONDERFUL KENNELS , PLENTY OF EXCERSISE AND WORK ETC , ETC ......... WHICH IN ANY NORMAL CASE WOULD LEAD TO A W
  8. Having worked and trained many dogs not only for myself but for other people I find the odd saluki and saluki X very headstrong selfish and ignorant. The other day after a heated discussion with a friend who only works saluki Xs .His opinion was that occasionaly a Saluki or Saluki X without obvious reason would be untrainable. The argument he used was a few dogs he,d owned in the past would,nt come back would hunt up and completely ignore him untill it had caught something or was completely knackered. He said that some of them are this way and nothing can be done to correct the problem his words(
  9. I carry electrolytes mix in a little tomato juice it helps against the build up of lactic acid I also mix tomato juice in their food every day it was a greyhound trainer that told me many years ago after a dog went leggy after a hard run that it helped with the effects of lactic acid build up.Dont know if he was right or not but have not had a prob since I also add a large spoon of honey which he said helped but I,m not sure if electrolytes were around then so he proberbly ment as electrolyte substitute I also add honey with every feed
  10. one for next year suluki lurcher 9 months 25 1/2tts
  11. Totally agree hard to beat whippets on rabbit day or night sharp fast intelligent and dont cost alot to feed or take up the whole couch
  12. Work the dog on it,s own give it chance to grow it will soon get the hang of things movement of quarry will trigger interest.Somtimes working with other dogs can hinder retrieving and can put her training back a bit.
  13. I bred mother to son a few years ago out of 6 pups only 1 turned out with somthing wrong it had an over bite that made it look goofy I was going to pts but a mate insisted he would have him even though freeky looking he made good and turned out as good as his litter mates I still take the piss now when I see him I still call him cleetas the slack jaw yokal. The only thing is he can,t pick the food stuck to the bottem of his bowl
  14. Take one of these even if plod does turn up it,s not a problem
  15. A mate of mine had one very keen to the point of being mentally unbalanced this was many years ago he slipped it on a hare it took off into the distance he found it 2 hours later hanging of the throat of a bullock he took it home with the intention of stock breaking but the same night it chewed up one of his Whippets he didn,t keep it.
  16. your right about run till they drop ,pity its not very long you no f**k all about them then? twat! I do they are bfilliant for 2 min runs
  17. I,v posted before about training being paramount in my dogs this dog has killed a lot of quarry hers a pic of how bidable she is and I wouldn,t settle for less some one on another post said it,s impossable to train a dog to kill on command I beg to differ
  18. I,d love to but shes a big bitch and i think no one would show much interest in pups 27 28 itts I know many dog men that have seen her run they all say the same great dog fast as f78k shame she's not a bit smaller I took her on stubble field got her to chase the 4x4 and at 50 miles an hour she was still there so a small saluki may well be the answer as slowing her down a bit would,nt be a problem but would a pure saluki bring down the size enough????? 19. The reason I ,v not written about her this season(she cracked her hock just after x mas she hit a tree stump with her that had a covering of grass) and has done nothing since for obvious reason) I if you want witness as to how she runs get in touch with any body that knows gary coulfield get them to ring him and you will have a first hand account. As I said I,m not covering her this year and if I do cover her next I will probably place the pups to trusted dog people for no finacial gane IN hind site probably a Whippet x Saluki would be better as boizoi is already a saluki composite dog in it,s
  20. You've probably already seen me post a picture of my wifes dog borzoi first x gh I was dead against keeping her due to the size but she turned out to be a cracking dog she covers ploughing faster than anything I have ever seen. she can't stick like a saluki but shes a good 3 min dog with an amazing strike launching herself through the air she is surely a sight to see. I've taken her out with well known dogmen and they were literally gob smacked at her speed and stike. She is currently broken down about 15 days in and we have been toying with the idea of putting her to a working whippet to br
