IF HUNTING BAN CONTINUES ???DAYTIME OR LAMPING?
fieldsman replied to whip x grey's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I know a lot of people in the dog world and I can,t think of any one who has changed the type of dog they run or the quarry they hunt. The hunting with dogs bullsh*^ has only had a negative effect on animal wellfare the worst being the amount of foxes running around dieing slowly from wounding because of dickheads shooting with inappropriate guns or shot loads. In the last 3 years we have also found a lot more hare with shotgun wounds ,now shooting is the only form of control open to a lot of farmers it will continue to be a problem.I know many farmers only shot before the ban but many shoots to -

I,LL PUT SOME PHOTOS UP WHEN I GET THIS RESIZING THING UP & RUNNING.OZZY WAS BRED DOWN FM NIPPER YES. I,ve seen the son of ozzy ,ozzy jnr looks like an old english sheep dog if left unclipped, nice dog showing promise could be as good as his sire if all goes well

Off shoot of the line the blond dog is the sire to the black dog who ive clipped out the warm weather didn,t agree with him.The sire was still doing 2 and 3 at 6 years old and would probably done more if I was the type to keep pushing him.Even if it,s only my kennel blind opinion I still think he looks the biz.

how come no bull xes like .theres some proper well bred bullxes with proper coursing stuff in them.or are you wanting storys about dogs that take big fields to warm up and then just plod behind big ears. Totally agree with ya mate. Ya do get the odd 'fast' saluki's but majority are plodders and run the hare till its almost exhausted. seen with my own eyes Probably ran it till it was exhausted because it could

Seeing the pound sighns then regretting it!!
fieldsman replied to cooper101's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Every dog has a price no matter how much you think of your dog the right money will buy it. -
Turn your back to him as he get closer to you he will pass you to give it to you . If he,s not yet get him to walk to heel instantly the command is given and continue walking away .Hope this helps and makes sense. ATB FIELDSMAN.

well said whin hey mate you sound like a right salmon, yes understand if they are plagues of them,im out non stop in the winter so crop loss isnt to sadcome harvest,im talking about running a lurcher in summer its unproductive, ive lost dogs in the summer due to injurys.and if you want to call me playground names fella spell them right it sounds better.to lose 50 acres of crop u must be making a shit job in the winter. I dont know what the cycle of life round your way is like .During the winter round licolnshire although rabbits sometimes breed its not in the same numbers as in sping and

Eleven ,six whippets ,three saluki xs one lurcher really belongs to my other half Borzoi xGh and last a black lab used for Hawking. How do you rate the borzoi cross greyhound? She,s the fastest dog on deep plough I,v seen ,she has a massive stride she jumps dykes 20 feet top to top with ease .she works well on the lamp can run all night .she also works well in total darkness catching and retrieving very handy if you happen to stray accidently of permission only down side with this sometimes when you are obviously after rabbits she may bring something else back .She has a good strike an

toe nail problem.....
fieldsman replied to old real tree's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
years ago i had fred a 3/4 g/houndXd/hound real fast decent type and useful too but forever knocking up toes so in my my wisdom i had a speed toe on one foot and a turning toe on the other removed ....... never the same dog again .... wish i had just rested him between injuries and accepted it as it was. was only talking to a mate the other night, around the same time as my dog (mid 's) he had a 3/4 g/hound x collie drifter another of the fabulous 3/4 crosses he too suffered from knocked up toe's and my mate had toe's removed the dog was never the same, speed t -

-
Merlin&EVE Dels luke Swoop ace I cant remember them all I got them down on paper some where I dont suppose it really matters he does what I want of him and he never stops surprising me best dog I,v had for a long time.Sad thing is even if he was less than average I would still keep him I can never bring myself to selling them on or give them away as I want only the best for them.Once a dog has been passed on it spends the rest of its life moving never finding a home thats good for them .Sorry rant over.

Just clipped him he had a bit of a coat I find it helps with the molt as well as the warm weather .He,s a bit of a poser looking hopefully into the distance .This land is the test of a dog no where to hide no excuses.

just a pic new pup I shouldn,t have but couldn,t resist. At least the whippet pup likes her
-
What a load of horse shit if you didn,t hunt in the summer you would soon find someone on your ground the rabbits down here eat the crops no matter what time of the year and the farmers want them removed if you dont do it they soon find someone that will,, wether its rabbits hare or pigion, there,s no room for part-timers

Stopping a dog chasing game is as easy as stopping it chasing livestock but the sad truth is many people dont bother to instill basic commands I know many dog men who scoff when I say I need my dog to stop chasing when I say, not when it feels like it ,all you here is cant be much good then .The fact is the better the training the better the dog.I often walk ten lurchers of one type or another through fields of sheep none have leads on none chase all walk to heel all stand and watch rabbits running amongst the sheep none chase untill told.

if you could change one thing with your dog.
fieldsman replied to Trigger's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
you have it on a lead when lamping try teaching it to walk to heal -
Sounds like a good pup you have mate and thats great. However just because you MAY get a good one is no reason to buy an animal that will hopefully be with you for ten years or more. I'd want good grafting parents. Also i think that to continue to support his puppy farm whist in the knowledge of what goes in there shows a lack of respect for lurchers and dogs in general. There are so many other options of where to get a pup from out there - why pick this one? Honestly - i think it's due to lack of knowledge or experience. Out of interest what initially led you to Hancocks door?
