  1. when you start breeding lurcher to lurcher it can get confusing saying theres a lot of this a bit of that a lot more of this, people want to know a lot more about a dog these days, i wouldnt buy a lurcher these days without knowing the quantitys in the mix, helps you know how a dog will develop + what problems you might run into as your pup develops
  2. i think there is 1 coming up? will let u know as soon as i find the piece of paper it was on! why not come down here? this is where all the good shows this side of the water are, and whatever ya do dont say "its too far" as its well worth the trip.
  3. there trying to do that here ;- vaccinate badgers of all the mental things! talking to brian naughton (TD finegael)about this a couple of months back + he supports it even though the goverment dont think there is any way to prove or disprove if its doing any good, they reckon they are going to be getting results in 5yrs time but i think its a load of bollox, badgers are like rats around here + breed like rats too. all of the farmers ive spoken to are against vaccinating them and are all for culling them.
  4. we wouldnt be lost without ya;- we would be cracking open the champagne!
  5. up until recently i had a stoat size polecat jill, very slinky and so energetic you couldnt keep up with her, her head was small and cobby with very short soft coat and she was extremely nippy when i first got her, way too much of a handful for a pet type ferret, i always suspected her of being a greyhound x i havent seen any ferrets like her since (swapped her with a lad for a sandy hob, he wanted a jill + i wanted a hob!)
  6. then you have the bitch out of use for the second half of her pregnancy + 4wks after the birth, or so i found with my collies, never bothered to breed a lurcher though... enough being bred already + lurcher pups are a real handful
  7. ive always prefered bitches but then it makes life easier as well, my only male is my patterdale + i cant really keep males as he is male dog aggressive + kennel crazy when confined, both behaviors are linked in his case though as he was reared in kennels, happy in my 1/4acre dog run though with the lakie bitch ive kept many breeds over the years and i have always prefered bitches, they seem to be more responsive and that bit quicker with their wits, they settle into a routine quicker, males seem to find it harder to adjust if their enviroment changes in any way. ie when i brought out my l
  8. fair enough, i'll fight you on the bouncy castle instead done;- bets on! ok whats the bet,,,, i hope you have'nt got much of a weight advantage 10stone, but i fight dirty, lol.
  9. line breeding is breeding to and individual (i.e)this is as i remember an old pedigree plan to line breed to a stud sire ( to reproduce his traits) stud sire A to two quality females B and C then mate the offspring D and E together to produce F ..... this is a double bred grand daughter of A (genetic equivilent to a daughter) now pair A to F ..... this is a line bred daughter, but also his double great grand daughter this gives you 75% A 25% B and 25% C this is a proven plan and you can equally use it to line breed
  10. i like loads of stuff from all genres but at the moment id be listening to biffy clyro + kasabian favourite tunes; whos got a match, vlad the impaler, captain, underdog, fire, many of horror, living is a problem. etc etc........

  12. doohan;- so what do you think of ireland + the dogs over here? and are you gonna bring a few of your own dogs over to a show sometime?
  13. in breeding is mating a bitch to a close relative;- brother/sire/son/grandfather etc linebreeding is mating 2 dogs of similar ancestry ie some gt gt gt grandparents in common for example outcrossing is breeding 2 dogs together who are entirely unrelated
  14. i find my own ferret box a bit too heavy for my liking;- its standard size (2 ferret compartments) and has a good strap and is made of wood, ive seen lads out + about with plastic tool boxes with straps attached and air-holes drilled into the sides. anyone know of a factory made lightweight ferret box??? preferably in a darker colour- khaki would be nice............
  15. what about white pheasants are they viable or legal to release?
  16. myself, 7 would be my maximum age, if a bitch doesnt prove her worth as a worker she wouldnt be kept passed the age of 2 & Certainly wouldnt be bred from till at least 4/5
  17. its a good offer, fair play 2ya
  18. i had same thing when i had my litter of collies few months back- had 4 to choose from was a hard decision;- they all had their merits! last pup went today, i can invest bit more time in the pup ive kept now!
