Busy Morning........!
Urban Fox Control London replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
A Pest Controller found themselves in Court last year and was luck to get away with a suspended sentance and only £3,000 worth of costs - all for a £68 'bee job'. He hadn't broken the law by treating the bees nest, but by failing to take all reasonable precautions to prevent other bees from other colonies from gaining entry to the nesting site after treatment. Check out www.npta.org.uk for guidelines on dealing with bees. I think it is going to be a bumper wasp season this year -
Don't worry. You got out. I took my Nissan Pathfinder out in the snow just before Christmas. £8000 insurance claim later having slid sideways into a ditch, I got my pride and joy back. I am not looking forward to getting this years insurance premium quote in the post

Grafter94 said: you get on like a f*****g anti mate !!!! It's comments like that encourage the anti's and restrict shooting and other traditions in the UK. I control urban foxes for a living; therefore, I have to do everything 'by the book'. If anyone asks me for advice, I will always help to the best of my knowledge and experience. Comments like yours only fuel anti's. Maybe you are an anti in disguise trying to stoke the fire: after all, it takes one to know one.

First Time FAC - Advise me please.

If you have 3 Acres to shoot on; your FEO (Firearms Enquiries Officer) may deem it safe of a .22lr sporting rifle for instance for rabbitt / small ground vermin control. Obviously, It would be up to the FEO's survey on the safely of the land, back stops, public highway etc whether or not it would be granted. I you have a neighbouring farm / landowner, they may also give you permission to shoot over there land as well. Upon authorisation by your local Constabulary; you will after a while be able to put in for a variation for other calibre rifles you NEED. Not just want to have. Y -
Make sure the hens are dead first. It is illegal in the UK to use 'live' bait.

The Best .22Lr Ammo
Urban Fox Control London replied to easypeasy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My 10/22 loves Eley Sub Sonic Hollow Points. Hand on heart; I can truthfully say that I have never had a stoppage and using them in conjunction with a SAK moderator, they are whisper quiet. No complains here -
dispatching a fox
Urban Fox Control London replied to jarrodevs's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I have a 'dog handlers' pole for removing foxes out of classrooms, hospital wards and other awkward places. Very handy and cost around £+VAT Ideal for removing a fox from a trap into a carry basket that can be easily transported to the vet's for humane destruction. I don't think dragging the fox out of a trap and hitting it over the head with a shovel or hammer should be encouraged A swift, clinical and humane dispatch is the way forward If you haven't got the tools for the job, leave it alone or get someone who has. Just my opinion. The Animal Welfare Act -
dispatching a fox
Urban Fox Control London replied to jarrodevs's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
If you can't safely dispatch it with a firearm; take it to a local vets and they will put it down. Obviously the vet will charge. You will have to pass this charge onto your customer. A .22lr rimfire is ideal at close range as is a .410 shot gun. Don't start trapping unless you can humanely dispatch. If you release the fox once caught; it will become 'trap-shy' and you will never catch it in a trap again. Make sure you fully understand The Animal Welfare Act 2006. -
As stated above, the FAC wouldn't be revoked as long as the certificate holder has a genuine reason to hold the required firearms. The "Maximum quantity authorised to be purchased at any one time" and "Maximum quantity authorised to be purchased or acquired at any one time" section would just be decreased if the FEO or Chief Constable felt it necessary to do so. If it is reduced; the Certificate can always be varied in the future if more ammunition is required. I never hold my maximum requirement at any one time. My gunsmith is very close so I only acquire what I need, rather

You can use ANY food that takes your fancy. I take it you will humanely dispatch the fox safely

SGC Question
Urban Fox Control London replied to Urban Fox Control London's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks. Will I need to to the photo and reference business again? -
My FEO isn't in til the morning, so I thought i'd throw this question out: I hold an open FAC. Having recently contracted a clay pigeon shooting infection / bug at a country fair at the weekend, I want to get a 12G. Do I simply fill out a variation for my FAC or do I have to do a full application? Thanks in advance.

Urban Fox Control London replied to bignoel's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I have just completed a trapping treatment inside a sealed building site in North London. A very trap shy dog fox had been living in the ceiling voids of the building urinating, fouling and damaging the newly installed fabrication. Anyway, I trapped it this morning. On close inspection it only had 3 legs, heavily infested with sarcopic mange and very under weight (probably due to internal parasitic worms). On closer inspection, the missing leg had clearly been surgically amputated and neatly stitched up. To carry out this type of procedure on a domestic pet would cost over -
22 rimfire whats the diff
Urban Fox Control London replied to Elmer Fudd 2011's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
A .22 RF is ample to dispatch a fox in a trap or snare; again as previously mentioned above, for a clean, accurate head shot ensuring a quick, precision & clinical kill. Just make sure that you have a soft 'back-stop' beneath......not concrete Safety comes first, there is no second chance. -

Thats CRAZY !! I spent more time in the NAAFI queue. Herts Police Authority turned my first application round in a matter of weeks. Variations are also carried out efficiently. It all depends on the staff. -
Anyone Seeing Any Cubs ?
Urban Fox Control London replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
'HELP' enquiry today in South London. Fox's under decking. One vixen and 10 cubs !!!!!! -
I went to a country show yesterday and one of the trade stands was an engine re-mapping business. They claimed to be able to re-map engines in order to increase the BHP thus increase power and fuel economy. I was thinking about getting my Pathfinder done. Has anyone else had their Pathfinder / Navara's engine re-mapped and what were the results. I know the manufacturer's don't like it being done, but mine is over three years old now so the warranty has expired anyway.

crafty fox
Urban Fox Control London replied to 12borejimbo's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Pre-baiting traps always pays off in the long run. Having gained the foxes confidence in entering the trap and associating the trap with a 'safe' place to feed. After about a week of replenishing the food, set the trap, hey presto, the fox. Cat food is a good bait medium to attract foxes. I personally check traps twice a day or get the customers to agree to do the checks. As the traps are not pest specific, domestic cats and hedgehogs are caught by accident too. Non-pest species can be safely and quickly released unharmed, but well fed & watered !! A safe dispat -

I use a quick squirt of FERALMONE on each trap. It's synthetic fermented egg and smells like it too. http://www.ratbait.co.uk/feralmone-150g-624-p.asp
