  7. Hi Vmax I agree for professionals or people with a proven experience then a 1 day course is by far enough and it is soon apparent on the course who knows their deer and who doesn't I didn't think the cost when I took it was bad and the estate paid anyway I think it was £280 for the 4 days including the range day but that was a while ago.I do think it is a good idea for newbies to take the course as it does make them think about what they are doing rather than just getting out there and shooting but it most definitely should not be compulsory
  8. Did you know that the name Manchester comes from the Roman Latin name Mamucium kind of fitting that it means looks like a tit
  9. Lol I was 13 before I realised that what I could see the other side of the Humber wasn't France :icon_redface:
  10. V max why are you so against the dsc I took mine over 6 years ago and still stalk with some of the friends I made on the 4 day course some of the lads on the course where professional stalkers and some of the rest where keepers such as myself who wanted the qualification to add to our CV's.The tutors on the course soon worked out that most of us had stalked for some time and tailored the course as such concentrating more on management and ecology than teaching us how to recognise/shoot deer.Even though I had shot deer on a professional basis for 15 years before I took the course I still found
  11. You won't find much better than this in a factory rifle http://www.sako.fi/sako85models.php?varmint_showdata#pagedown
  12. only when someone clicks on the add i would think sorry didn't realise it worked like that I thought they paid for the banner Edited to say maybe we should all be clicking the banner to cost them some money then
  13. Do they pay for that advert cause if they do let them waste their money
  14. Fully aware, rats and rabbits, rats and rabbits.... Would you take the risk if you owned the land though? especially when you have just been cold called and asked by someone you don't know at all, lots of lads get permission through going beating at least that way a rapport is built with the keeper or farmer and then they tend to be more trusting
  15. Richie open this link http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/37/section/3 it should explain why most land owners don't want coursing on their land if it is proved they gave permission they are liable under the hunting act just the same as the lad who sent the dog
  16. Metacam is amoxicilin Metacam is not amoxacillin it is meloxicam which is not an antibiotic when my pup broke its leg I had to give metacam and synulox at the same time the metacam for the swelling and the synulox for the infection
  17. Moley you are right food isn't cheap but the true profit goes to the supermarket not to the primary producer IF you feel so strongly stop using supermarkets buy direct and then farmers won't need the subsidy they are set by our friends the EU
  18. We read a kestrel for a knave at school my all time favourite

  21. Have owned a sussex (worked and kept to use as an outcross experiment to see if it would increase the size/fix colour and add a degree of steadiness to my line of cockers) and seen clumbers pick up non of them are a patch on a well bred springer or cocker though they are defiantly slower/steadier than some of the more ftch oriented lines of spaniel.
  22. That has been happening for years especially partridge it isn't hard to clear a pen of partridges at all.
