  1. How would you stop one getting in your pen without killing it then mate? I know what you are saying mate, but i meant that laying traps about the pen, in tunnels, and ensuring it's well fenced, and if needs be shooting them around the pens, is one thing. Shooting any stoat on the shoot on sight is another. We have them, they kill rabbits, don't ever really lose birds to them. I get what you mean now reading your first post I took it to mean that pens should be built to exclude stoats not an easy task as you can imagine I do trap stoats and go out of my way to k

you are right mate as they have answered there own questions £££££££££££££ comes 1st but like i said even if there was 1 pair near there pens causing no harm they will still get shot.i love my wildlife since i was a kid and love my hunting to as neither will ever change and i work for a masive pest control company which has got me a good bit of permission but i still like my digging with the terriers and running with the lurchers plus everything i kill i eat so does the family. Do you actually work as a pestie then or are you a paper pusher?
  7. Always had it drummed in to me to dog out the fields before the mower not sure it makes much difference but it salves my conscience trying
  8. we all get fired up mate now and again! all water under the bridge Dan thats a post straight from a sportsmans heart mate . you strike me as the sort of guy who would fight until his last breath to back up what he beleives in, can't fault that mate. I have always had a good relationship with keepers on land that I fly and shoot on, always get invites to the cock shoots amd always available to lend a hand repairing pens and the like, always also had plenty of banter about my Hooked beak friends . My sparrowhawk days finished long ago as has a vast majority of my falconry in a big w
  9. Look old mate! you come across as one of those who likes to come onto other peoples posts to do nothing but create controversy and arguements, now come out of little world and read my post again , not ONCE did I critisise Game shooting . infact I practice the f*****g sport myself so don't give me the moral high ground. I note you popped up on another topic before this one basically doing the same thing old mate, I suggest you read that one again and you will see I live on a Sporting shooting estate which puts down at least 15,000 pheasants and you're telling me all these go to the game dea
  10. You're talking as if a trained spar is going to muller every Blackbird in the vicinity, this won't happen with the advantage virtually always with the fitter wild quarry, a Trained spar will never be as fit as the quarry you're flying even if you fly it everyday. you would be surprised how they struggle with Blackbirds in fair flight straight off the fist, there's always a very high percentage chance the quarry will make its escape knowing the terrain better than the trained hawk. People shoot and Hunt quarry everyday not always for the pot, Pheasants get shot for sport with some ending up
  11. mate of mine has a couple think they are bushnell work on infrared so no flash he said it scared the shite out of him just how much vermin where round his pens LOL

spot on Lab . Trust me mate I genuinly know where you're coming from, it 's different here as perhaps the Buzzards are occupied with the mixy Rabbits and other easy picking. I've got to know a few keepers in the past and all seem under stress in the season, its definitely a high pressure job and one I don't think I could handle. I get the impression alot of people don't realise quite whats invloved.... Jasp i know whats involved in keepering as its a 24hr job,as for where lab is there might be loads of buzzards but ive been on some shoots where there is only 1 pair and those still

    Teachers Strike

I cant' understand why people are criticising how much work a teacher does all I ever wanted to do is be a keeper for better or worse now in theory I could well have studied and been a teacher or what ever with a job that would pay better for less work but I chose my way, I had the chance to be anything but didn't, seems to me that in this country it is far easier to pull down some one who does well than applaud them. The school my kids attend has fantastic teachers and the care and help they have given my boys is beyond reproach if they must strike to get what they where promised then so be i

  23. 1 you need to be a competant stock man to look after your birds 2 the pay is generally very poor underkeepers/beatkeepers circa £12000 3 working hours depends if you rear or not I get poults so in my case from mid july 5am - 10,30pm + lamping obviously that alters with day length 7 days a week no days off till february and approx 7 days holiday per year 4 there are currently hundreds of well qualified and experienced keepers looking for jobs if you didnt know the answers to any of the above questions then your going to struggle
