  1. I think the debate over heavy vs light will always roll on, from my point of view it is irrelevant in a hunting rifle what matters more is does the rifle fit you. I personally believe it is every bit as important as with shotgun fit, I spend a long time ensuring the scope is in the most natural place for when my head hits the stock and to that end I have had to have custom stocks made to accommodate my build, the rifle should come up as naturally as a shotgun with cheek weld and eye relief perfect from the moment it touches your face,Moderators ruin the balance of a gun and this must be taken
  2. There's only 3/4 of a pound difference between the two. Are you really saying you can't carry 8.5 pounds all day as opposed to 7.75? It seems heavy vs light is opinion that divides the shooting world: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/bull-barrels-36165/ I think some of it will come down to personal build as well. If you're ten or eleven stone you might want a lighter gun. If you're 6ft+ and 15+ stone (fit not flab), then a heavy barrelled weapon will probably not bother you for carrying in the slightest. I tend to be a bit sceptical of people who say they can't ca
  3. Take all the family to the hunt on boxing day then tomorrow I've a small family day to put on for the bosses and extended family's children looking at the weather its' going to be a bit wild for them
  4. mate I went out to feed the pheasants a bit earlier got to the first drive and the quad stalls and wont start after much swearing away it goes again get to the far end of the estate with one drive left to spin, driving like a c**t the spinner hits a rut and rolls nearly taking the quad with it after turning it back upright had to beat the hitch with a rock to get it to stay on LOL now sat infront the telly with a drink and I aint doing f**k all the rest of the day
  5. If I'm ever asked what would be the one thing you could hunt and how would you do it my answer has always been the same wolf on foot in the mountains having read your post I am massively jealous one day I hope to be able to fulfil that dream but at the moment life and work just gets in the way
  6. Only a couple of questions I am getting an HK416 D10RS in .22LR - WHY? looking for a compact 'CQB' style scope = WHY? Why not, it's perfectly legal. If that's what he wants leave him to it. Because barring shooting it on a range which may be a bit of fun he says he wants to do some pest control which I assume will be outdoors, yes its up to him and yes its legal I don't dispute that but I wouldn't want to be walking round a field with a Heckler and Koch tactical rifle if ever the Police armed response unit turn up. Each to their own I suppose, I just don't get the nee

  11. that would be fine for mounting a torch to a scope but it wouldn't mount a torch to a weaver rail

Ive a marky t20 on my spotter mate used it on my 550 as well it isnt as good as the nm800 with twin battery but it isnt bad for the cash I would suspect your batterys anything that says ultrafire is renowned for being shite with false/inflated mah readings I get senybor (panasonic) or torchy batterys off ebay and they are very good though not cheap
  18. That may actually be a very good point Dan. Like I said it was an amalgam of forms and I haven't seen it written anyway in the Acts as to who has the right to grant permission. So its certainly a point that wants checking before using the wording beyond "landowner". yeah its an interesting point over the years I've been asked more times than I care to remember if I could give some one written authority to shoot on the estates I've keepered I always refuse since it is neither my land nor do I hold the rights to the shooting and as such I don't believe it is my place to grant such permi
  19. perhaps being pedantic but neither the tenant, gamekeeper nor farm manager are the land owner and are unlikely to hold the shooting rights IF i needed permission slips as above I would want the landowners (or holder of the shooting rights) permission in writing I would be very careful about accepting permission from someone who only acts as an agent and in all reality probably cannot lawfully grant permission.

  24. unfortunately the popularity of cockers at the moment is to be the breeds ruination, My advice to the OP would be, be honest with yourself as to why you NEED to breed the litter, be honest with your self as to the bitches and sires faults (and I guarantee their will be faults with both dogs as non are perfect) and ask yourself just how is your breeding going to better or advance the breed, finally do not be blinded by the title ftch all it means is that the dog has been trained to win awards it is no reflection on the dogs conformation, temperament or ability as a producer of quality pups
