Thanks Moley. The rats are big aswell!!

Well the PH6 is now back from Daystate after having a full service. Whilst the action was away i stripped down the stock, stained and oiled it. Not a bad job if i do say so myself. Had a few snags with the scope that came with the rifle so traded it in for a Hawke. Took it up one of my permissions to get it zero'd in. Just finished doing this when a squirrel caught my eye. 28m up a tree, first shot in anger = first blood to the PH6. Happy Days. Ratting over the winter is going to be a pleasure with this rifle.

Have tried to get a picture up but keep getting told that the file is too big? How do i get it smaller so it'll be accepted?

I was gifted an "old" air rifle from friends of my parents today. I must admit i was expecting an old springer on its last legs but to my very great surprise it turned out to be a little gem. I use an AirArms S400 for my pestie work so when i was handed a Daystate PH6 i was over the moon. Never seen one before but its a unique looking rifle oozing character. Colt type 6 shot wheel fixed magazine, winchester style side loading plate, solid cnc machined breechblock, brass swan neck bolt, beech stock, Simmons 6-18x40 scope.........I could go on. Going to strip it down for a good clean t

Was mentored for nearly a year prior to attending my DSC1 course. Sent details of all this along with my certificate etc. Spoke to the FEO with regard to photocopying my FAC in case im stopped whilst my certificate is away, explained all of the above and was told its going to be approx 4 months before i get it back. Very busy. My mate just got his SGC after a very long wait and i'm sure it was down to him phoning up trying to chase it up?! Guess i'll just have to be patient and wait.

Well thats the DSC1 done and dusted. Really enjoyed the course, but so glad i put the work in at home/on the range before attending. Out of 19 of us starting 6 failed. Surprised me how many people who could obviously shoot, and had been for years, went to "ratshit" because they were being assessed on the range! Definatley not just an attendance course. Just submitted my certificate, FAC and variation paperwork to Devon and Cornwall Police. Been told by the FEO that its going to be 4 months or so before i get it back! Suppose it gives me time to save for my 243.

Live by the sword, Die by the sword. She knew the possible consequences of her life-style. Self inflicted as opposed to those poor souls taken in Norway.

Had a quick hour or so mooch around the golf course last night and got a couple for the pot. As i type they are poaching in some cider ready to be added to fried chorizo, onions, mushrooms and a tin of condensed m'room soup for a pie filling.

Thats quite quick. Mine took nearly 3 months. It is worth the wait in the end though. Patience is the key.

You put it under the rifle that youve asked for. If youve put down for a .22 rimfire, under this you'll put down for a moderator. Its seperate from the rifle. The reason that youre applying for a moderator is for Health And Safety - Protecting your hearing. Good luck with the application.

Mate its not even been a month yet! You have at least another month or so to wait, at least. Mine took just under 3 months. The waiting is a pain and it does seem to take forever but its worth it when you get it. Patience -
After much research i bought a CZ452 SILHOUETTE with a SAK moderator, topped off with a Hawke Nite Eye 3-9-50 Illum scope. Had a Rimfire Magic Trigger conversion kit added just to complete it. We're going to be spending some long enjoyable nights together over the comming months of Spring/Summer. Can't wait, superb rifle. Had a rabbit on Fri night that we lazered at 86yds. Spot on. Will be investing in a couple of spare mags though as if you lose one your snookered without a spare. I'm hoping that this rifle will be like my Africa Twin motorcycle, in that ive had loads of bikes over the

After reading the excellent Help & Guidance for Firearms/Shotgun Certificates by SportingShooter on this site i decided to take the plunge and apply for both. Refering back to the guidance mentioned above made filling in the forms a doddle. A two month wait and i had the visit from the FEO, which was a totally painless affair. At this point i had my security cabinet and ammo safe but had not secured them to the wall as i wanted conformation from the FEO that my planned site for them was ok.(which it was.) 3 weeks later on a wet and windy Monday night i had a call from the FEO saying

Thought i'd give my Duffus and Talpex traps an outing in the deer paddock last night. Had one in each type but the one in the Duffus was caught quite far back on its body so i need to adjust the sensitivity.

Couldnt agree with you more.

Squirrel finally caught.

Hi Ratattack, In my post i stated that i had been using a live capture trap, the client didn't want the squirrel harmed at this point , but the squirrel was having none of it . After the client had a sleepless night and saw the amount of damage caused she agreed to me using lethal force. Having set the Fenn it was less than hour before the squirrel was caught . If she'd let me use this option initially it would have been hours not weeks. Customers always right???????!!! -
For traps i try and find out what they have been feeding on. In one case the client reported that bags of peanuts had been targeted. 4 days of pre-baiting unset traps with peanut brittle, on the 5th day set the traps, within the hour 1 dead rat. In general you cant go wrong with peanut butter, cheaper the better. If i'm laying bait to draw them out to shoot i use a satchet of cat food, small tin of fish and a glug of cooking oil. Put this lot in a blender and make a soup like substance. Place blobs of this just off a main run(not out in open ground but near cover to give them confide

Been trying to capture a squirrel thats been nesting in a ladys loft for the last few weeks. Set a live capture trap and infra red motion sensor camera in the loft. Camera showed it was more interested in shredding the cardboard boxes than the trap! Checked again this morning and lady told me it was chaos up there Sat night/Sun morn. Went up for a look and sure enough the loft was trashed. (2 Antique wedding dressings only just missed the carnage but 1 hat box was not so lucky) Found a nest so decided to place a Fenn trap covered with shredded cardboard at the entrance. Went down stair

Another one bites the dust! No1 mole trap in my arsenal!
-
do you have to use 2 of these? 1 facing each way.. they also look small would they need an anchor? thanks smithie I use two, one facing each way. If you didn't and a mole came up behind a single trap it wouldnt set it off. At the rear of mine i put a fishing swivel(as seen in the photo) which i use to anchor the traps with a small cane.
-
where do i buy these from? i normaly buy from the flatpack company but would like to try something different cheers smithy Killgerm sell them.
-
Checked my traps yesterday and found this in one of my Bodygrip #110's. Think i might need to replace my air rifle with a shotgun for shooting Monday night!

you may need to weld something into the exhaust hole of the strimmer/chainsaw. i find a compressed air line fitting is perfect, and you can also match it to the diameter of the hose you are using, then you just need a jubilee clip. Cheers
