  1. I got some from southertons guns, called in on the way back from cleethorpes. Also got them at nevilles but I don't know about Norfolk. They work well enough in my anschutz, better than expected to be honest. Cheers RFB, i'd love to try them. I'm currently using some Remington Cbee as this is all I could get in a low power .22lr. They are pretty crap to be honest.
  2. No one stocks the Z lang around here. Where can you buy them?
  3. I use an Anschutz 1417 .17 hmr. Shot many thousands of rounds through it almost exclusively for rabbits with no problems. Come with a great trigger out of the box. Great for shooting from a truck as it's got a 14inch barrel. Why use a centerfire on rabbits?
  4. I've heard mixed feelings about the trigger on the T Bolt. Make sure it suits you before you buy.
  5. I also shoot an Anschutz 1417 14ins. Eley subs shoot very well although they are tighter to chamber. Try RWS subs these are smoother and in my tests proved they shoot flatter. I was told that when Anschutz do their accuracy test on each gun before they go on to the market and use RWS ammunition. Well is it German afterall !
  6. RWS HP subs are very quiet when used with a moderator and also very accurate - my preferred round. I use a few RWS HP HV's which are supersonic when I need a little more distance reach. They are noisier obviously but I like them for hares and the odd fox. The main advantage is that I need very little sighting adjustment when switching between both rounds just less holdover between roughly 70-120 yards. Gun is an Anschutz 1417. 95% of the time I use the subsonics.
  7. I have a few friends that shoot CZ and T-Bolts. Both very nice rifles but i'll be sticking with my Anschutz 1417.
  8. A V-Max 17g bullet will be doing roughly 1378 FPS and will be delivering 73 ft/lbs of energy at 200 yards. Surely this is plenty for dispatching small vermin. It's putting the bullet on the target that's the trickier bit.
  9. 4-12x50 is about right. If you prefer a fixed mag go for about 8x I have used a Leopold VII but prefer a Meopta MeoPro as it has a very nice fine reticle. http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/994c87ae6355918104714742/MEOPTA+Meopro+4-12x50/
  10. .17HMR is a great round in certain situations. I like it for longer range rabbits and for shooting crows and magpies at distance. Bullet wise I use Hornady 17g ballistic tips which are very accurate in my gun. Last year I used about 3,500 rimfire rounds, about 600 where .17HMR the rest .22LR. The .22LR with subsonic ammo is very quiet and this is where is scores over the .17HMR. One is not better than the other they are both great but very different.
  11. Hull Cartridge used to make a shell with a biodegradable plastic wad but i'm not sure whether they still do. Apparently plastic wads will produce a tighter pattern. Why not try out a few of the same shells loaded with plastic wads and fibre wads on a pattern plate and see for yourself? I now use fibre exclusively on live quarry and have noticed no difference in the quality of the kill. As mentioned above the Eley 32g 6 1/2 HB Pigeon in fibre is a very good cartridge.
  12. Take is apart and soak it is coca cola overnight. All the crud comes away a treat.
  13. The .22LR and .17HMR rimfires are more than capable of killing foxes but you have to limit your range and put the bullet in the right place.
  14. I have shot many foxes over the years with a shotgun. You can kill them easily with relatively small shot as long as they are relatively close and the charge connects in the right place. In fact, the last one I shot was last Saturday. It ran through the line and I shot it with a 12g Hull Cartridge Imperial Game shell which was 28g of No 6. It was hit hard in the back of the head at about 30 paces distance. It died instantly.
  15. Another thing to consider is the distance your dog is working away from you. Flush the birds closer and 28g of No 6 will do the job irrespective of the choke in your gun.
  16. A brace of mallard with one shot with a twenty bore. Both dropped stone dead and I paced them out to sixty yards.
  17. 1st Eley subs next best RWS subs. Best HV round RWS hollow point.
  18. Another vote for Eley pigeon 32g 6 1/2s Great on the pigeons but also very good on game.
  19. Eley or RWS subs for me more accurate in my gun than Winchesters.
  20. I've done pretty extensive tests with .22LR rimfire ammunition. Eley subsonics are the best round in terms of accuracy. I can't share the view they over penetrate either.
  21. They are popular and some people really rate them. I'm happy with Eley subs. Bullet on Bullet through my Anschutz so no need to change.
  22. Do you think that "good fun" is sufficient reason to hold these under the terms of your firearms certificate?
  23. Vanguard shooting sticks do the job well. Fully adjustable so easy to use standing up and sitting down.
  24. Interesting post with some great points of view. I was brought up on airguns as a young lad in the 60's and 70's. Super tools for short range bunny hunting. Then the PCP came along, these guns added another dimension especially in .177. BUT compared to the .22LR rimfire shooting a .22 40gr hollowpoint the average airgun isn't in the same league.
  25. Well done. What did you shoot them with. Ammo and gun?
