  1. I was reading an article about the German Short haired Pointer and it described them as the best all round hunting dog with incredible stamina and ability. I would like to understand the difference between the GSP and GWP. I can't help but think that a cross bred dog must surely produce a 'better' animal, healthier at least. From what I've read it surely refreshes the genes and eliminates hereditary defects. I might be wrong but it seems to make sense to me. I had two Springerdors from working parents and they were amazing animals. For this reason the other cross breeds interest
  2. Hi Shina Just been reading about the German Short Haired Pointer and is described as the 'best all round hunting dog' an incredible athlete apparently!! Now I'm curious to understand the the difference between the Short and Wire haired versions? Do you know?
  3. Hi everyone New to this site and as yet not into hunting. However, I am interested in dogs and the different breeds, their abilities, uses and characters etc. I wondered if there was the ideal 'All Rounder'. A dog that could hunt, kill, retrieve and if need be, become a guard/protective dog as well. I have a ten year old daughter and would like to know which breeds develop strong bonds with their owners and have protective natures? A cross breed, I guess - a Lurcher type no doubt. in particular I would be keen to understand the mix and why. At the moment I am interested i

  5. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Dave, what is GWP ? At the moment, I am thinking of whippet x staffy x collie and maybe x bedlington. Would like a smaller dog if poss i.e. not as big as a greyhound!!
