  1. Don't want to pee on anybody,s chips but research shows that albino ferrets have genetic proplems which effects both their sight and hearing, so they're not quite the same. dont think they'll be any pure strains of albino's left most have been crossed with polecats generations ago just personal preference, as long as it works cos not all ferrets are the same all pink eyed whites are pure albinos mate. so when you breed an albino x polecat and some of the litter throws albino and some of the litter throws polecat the albino offspring are pure are they, i dont think so mate

  5. Where I used to live, about 30 yrs ago, a chap had a 1st cross springer greyhound. It was mainly white and frowned upon for that reason. He'd tried to dye it black when I 1st saw it, but it had turned out blue. It looked like a large Bedlington. Anyway, it soon earned a reputation for being the best lamping dog for miles around and I believe he turned down good money for it more than once. romany 52 that dog you talk of must of thrown towards the greyhound as 1 or two do in most litter's,I bet you never heard many stories about the other's,I myself had a collie/labradore x that cau

  7. In theory, two albinos will produce only albinos as they will both pass on one albino gene to their offspring. However, their offspring will also inherit the color genes passed on by the albino parents which are carried on other chromosomes. I have read scattered reports that albino parents have produced colored offsping, but have not seen any proof of that. So in theory, the colour gene that's past along with the albino gene can be discounted, because it is never past indipendently of the albino gene. In practice the albino gene can be treated as a recessive colour gene. I have bred
  8. I'd suggest you do some research on albino genetics. Albinos are the result of a defect in the tyrosinase gene so that there is no melanin production. They can carry any color genes which they inherited from their parents, although the albino genes which they inherited from both parents does not allow any of those colors to be expressed. So your telling me that two albinos mated together can produce coloured offspring ? I was trying to put it in the simplest way possible.
  9. What colour are the other kits? Sandy or Silver? Try using an albno hob that has been bred from albino parents. What difference will that make, an albino is an albino, no matter what colour it's parents were. It will make a difference in the colour of the kits it throws. No it won't, the albino gene is recessive to all other colours, meaning the albino can't possibly carry any other colour genes. So one albino is exactly the same as the next when it comes to breeding for colour. i used to have a sandy hob whos mother was an albino the litter was mixed Thats perfe
  10. Just my opinion but I personally would not breed to supply such a market. What the idiots will and won't buy shouldn't be your concern, just breed your own line and improve it whilst they're all fecking about with trivial things like colour I agree - ferrets should be bred purely on working instinct. If idiots start breeding for color we will end up with show bred strains and the working potential will be reduced. In America folk have purposefully picked color and docileness over working ability and have (purposefully) bred a pretty but useless ferret. I would be extremely sceptical o

  12. Silvers and dews are the same colour, silvers come in all shades, some darker some light, dews are the lightest shade of silver and usually have a few dark hairs on them somewhere. Most silvers get lighter the older they get , some pale silvers would be called dews after a couple of moults. a dark eyed white is all white no sliver in it or dark hairs this is a sliver and def not a dew I know thats a silver, they come a lot darker and a lot lighter than that, what I'm saying is the very lightest get called dews, when in actual fact the same gene is involved.

  16. Greyhound ferrets were favoured for rating, I used to breed them, they aren't tiny but you wouldn't call them large by any means.
  17. What you need to do is , convince the dog he has no choice but to come when called,so the line is the way to go and you do it so often he believes there is no choice. Reward well with a good fuss or play but remember, reward alone only works when he wants whats on offer more than the distraction your calling him away from. Only call him when he's on the line for a month or two , if you do let him off in this period don't call him, be patient and wait till you catch him, because every time you call him and doesn't come you're training him not to come. Hope this helps.
  18. I once read about some geneticist inbreeding rats for 13 generations, with no ill effects whatsoever. If you want to fix type or anything else, which is genetic, it's the way to do it.
