  2. I,m,o, 29 is too big,I would not want a dog over 26 for any job with the exeption of maybe deer. A wagon can't slow down and change direction as easy as a mini, the strength to weight ratio is higher in a smaller dog, and a smaller dog gets up to speed faster. I've seen whippets easily beat greyhounds over 150mts. A realy big dog hasn't got the stamina of a smaller dog. Having said all that, a tall lightly built dog will perform better than a heavily built one. So I guess it's more about weight than hight.
  3. A study I read found that the optimum frequency for turning eggs was 96 times a day, but that 24 times was more practical. That is for automatic,so if turning by hand the more times the better and again, if you turn an odd number of times the eggs spend alternate nights on a different side, which is standard practice. So in your case turning 3 times would be better than 4, but not as good as 5.
  4. I went to jeff burrels house to look at some pups, about 25yrs ago, all he had were a few mongrels with a touch of whippet in them, the biggest was no more than 16"tts. He tried to tell me they were tumblers.I spent 2 hrs listening to all sorts of bollocks, when he found out I was romany he even reckoned he was a traveler and was just camping out in the house. needless to say I left them where they were.
  5. Yep, thats right, always turn an odd number of times,3,5,7, whatever. This means that overnight, the longest period without being turned alternates. I've had 100% hatches in home made incubators but you've got to get things right. Good luck.
  6. in the furture when they tell you your great granchildren will have to have a mirochip implanted at birth as the id cards dont work no more we will all just have to get used to it We will mate, especially if they're going to take your kids if you wont comply. They've got us by the balls mate, like it or lump it.
  7. You don't want a butcher mate, look up game dealers in your area.
  8. If you get caught doing it your self, you'll get done for animal cruelty and likely loose your dogs. Anytime in the future any vet, policeman or rspca officer can ask to see the paper work. This also applies to anyone buying the pups.In the future there will be a lot of pups with tails,I think we will just have to get used to it.
  9. The three main parties are all for it, one report said the conservatives believed it didn't go far enough.
  10. Plus they're only theoretical.
  11. Also illigal to kick ,crush or stab any animal. And illegal to release a caught animal to dogs. Without permission you open a right can of worms, if your useing dogs you're in breech of the hunting act, if you're carying a knife your in breech of the knife laws, not to mention trespass and poaching.
  12. It's only 7.5 months, I would just spend the summer mooching round, it's bound to catch a few young 'uns, then start in ernest come september.
  13. Here's one of my " vicious untamable polecat hybrids ".
  14. I'm not saying you can't get good dogs from lurcher x lurcher, just that you get litter wastage, which can be avoided. iv just sold a litter of lurcher x lurcher pups they were all cracking pups there on my profile if you want a look atb turbotyke Not seen a pup yet that doesn't look cracking. sorry should have put there was no wastage all gone to working homes and all new owners are moor then happy with them atb jenna What I must admit is that what is wastage to one might not be wastage to someone else, I bred a few litters in my time, alot were saluki greyhound crosse
  15. I'm not saying you can't get good dogs from lurcher x lurcher, just that you get litter wastage, which can be avoided.
  16. So wat would be the ideal dog to put over say a f1x collie/grey bitch.I admit they can be a lot of variation in a litter of lurcher to lurcher bred pups but as long as theirs running dogs ie saluki deerhound grey in the crosses good pups can be produced.atb dell I agree to some extent, nothing wrong with lurcher x longdog, what ever genes the lurcher passes, the pups are still 50% running dog. For an f1 lurcher I would either use pure running dog or longdog x .
  17. The proplem with lurcher to lurcher is uneven litters, for instance if you cross a colie x greyhound with a colie x greyhound some pups will be colie greyhound but some will be nearly all colie and some nearly all greyhound.
  18. Always had dogs, the only vaccination- if any- was as a pup, like you say if they're exposed they'll maintain the resistance Same here , done once ,never had a booster, never had a proplem.
  19. Foxs usually mate late november, december time, they carry for 53 days , so cubs can easily be 6 or 7 weeks old by now.
  20. Without permission, rabbiting and rating with dogs is illegal, you contravene the hunting with dogs act. Shite I know, but true.
  21. Too many variables, most I ever had was 46,first 11 out the seat, only missed 1 out of the first 15. one night, only had one, and that ran into a pole and killed itself. same dog both times, different nights and ground.
  22. Yep , game birds, perfectly legal, fill your boots mate.
  23. You can't strip them anytime, their coat has to be ready.
  24. If they're brought up together or introduced carefully there isn't a proplem but don't just chuck them in.
