any decent terrierman should be well able to handle a live fox out of a dig,if you need tongs or a noose maybe ye should be at something else for a pastime.atb. i have no problems with controlling a fox bud,but "crawling headfirst down a hole flicking dirt in his eyes and grabbing him by the scruff" ? that sound like good terrier work to you? if so then maybe i am in the wrong sport as i'm not doing it properly for as start there would be a dog in the way,secondly the fox would be dug to and dispactched in the earth(safe shot) or bolted to gun/net and then shot as soon as the dog

Ffs, In my younger days i've crawled in head first , flicked a bit of soil over thier eyes, put my hand over the top, scruffed them , then been dragged out by the ankles.

When I ran Fen dogs, twice a week was plenty for them ,they would go down there looking a tad over weight, but come back looking too thin.

Not wishing to get dragged into a debate about something i know very little about, BOP, but i was always under the assumption that hares often over-taxed Harris Hawks and it was rare to get one to take a hare on a regular basis. Is there better strains than others on Hare?....JD As Ive said mate, Ive finished on this thread!

Do Buzzards differ in size in different areas? Because the ones in those pictures seem awfully small compared to the ones that sit on the telegraph poles round here... Obviously they are not all the same size, with any species in the Northern hemisphere, the further north in their range they are, the bigger they get. In the UK the difference is between North & South would not be that great. My first post said, that a buzzard would struggle to get off the ground with an adult rabbit. All I've seen so far, are pics of Buzzards carrying rabbits, now to me none of those rabbits look to be adult. I add pics of Buzzards with adult rabbits,. for others to make comparisons. We are all responsible for our own judgements, its down to you, think what you like. I've given my judgement! And for Swampy,who thinks harris hawks are no good for falconry.

You judge a birds capability by the size of it's feet , harris hawks feet are twice the size of a buzzards. Basically you give a set amount, keep your eye on it , if it gets fat you reduce that amount and visa verser.

The amount needed varies acording to many factors, exersize, temprature,type of food ect, it's trial and error mate.

All I can say is smallest fecking hare I've ever seen. I know for a fact that my female harris, the same size as a buzzard, can not get a full grown rabbit up to her nest ledge. But your blurry tiny image says I'm a liar.

If he don't believe it (Romany)then he the lesser for it and shall remain ignorant. How the Fek can he tell its a leveret from that pic? Jeez he's in the wrong game.
