  1. How can you tell if an albino is 100% pure ferret ?
  2. OK so are you saying your ferrets were immune to a disease that wiped your pure and hybrids out? Hybrids now you can x canaries with finches, horses with donkeys easily enough, but their offspring are known as mules and are infertile and cant be bred from Many have made claims on here and other sites to owning these mystical X's wether Euro polecat or even mink X's but I have yet to see one that does nt actually look like anything other than a ferret in looks or shape? Someone must of got one that actually looks like the European polecat or the mink Y.I.S Leeview How much like polecats
  3. How old are the kits in the pics Romany? Can't remember exactly, they were from 2008, I think they were 8 or 9 weeks.
  4. Polecat x mink hybrids have occurred naturally in the wild, but only in Europe as the mink needs to be the European mink. The American mink in this country doesn't hybridise with the polecat or ferret. I did'nt know that but it is a little more believable that the cross might occur with European mink as they -I believe- have a gestation period nearer the ferret's and I don't think they exhibit delayed implantation as often . As European mink do not occur in Britain and are actually quite rare it makes the claims of people who say they have a mink /ferret cross in this country even mo

  6. Basically if anybodies dog is on a lead and yours is off, then any trouble is your fault.
  7. When I'm asked disapprovingly why I hunt, I always say," man was put on this earth for three reasons, to hunt, shag and fight ! and I'm a very enthusiastic participant of all three ". I normally find they either change the subject or give me a wide birth.
  8. I made a 12v one with two 20watt down lighter bulbs, figured two bulbs were more reliable, if one goes you still got some heat. You might try two bulbs adding up to the same wattage as your single. Can't tell from your pics but the fan needs to be able to draw air in from the back, yours looks to be mounted flush. The best place for the heat source and fan are mounted on the lid with the fan blowing upwards, the air hits the lid and is forced to circulate. I would think with that size box you'll need about four holes in the lid and the same in the bottom, 1/4" is about the size and you need th
  9. I can't see any vents, did you make air holes.
  10. Don't always work though , years ago I was with a mate who did just that, I thought the ram was going to kill the dog, sorted my mate thought,on the way home across the fields the dog pined another sheep not 10 minutes later!
  11. Get him on a rope, take him into as many tempting situations as you can find. If he looks at 'em, bollock him,if he chases, brace your self, and just before he gets to the end of the rope, scream, whatever you scream to stop him doing wrong. He will hear the command just before he comes to a violent halt, then call him in and praise him. Next time you do the same thing, except give the command in time to give him the opportunity to stop before he gets to the end of the rope. If that works just keep doing it till it sinks in . If it don't , repeat the first method a few more times so he gets th
  12. They could be moulting mate, eggs take 21 days.
  13. Aylesbury's lay between 35-125 eggs per year, Campbells lay 300-350.
  14. Hi , it's easy, the vents on the female are next to each other, on the male they are about an inch apart at that age . Mike.
  15. One mans "not up to scratch" is another mans top dog.
  16. Your right there mate, the trouble with multiples is they imprint on each other instead of you.
  17. Train on the lead for heelwork, one at a time, keep the lead slack, every time the dog gets to far forward about turn, opposite way to the dog to begin with. After a few turns it doesn't have a clue where it's going so is less inclined to lead. Once it gets the hang of it , do right and left turns and about turns across the dog. If its in the right position but to far away from you take a side step away from the dog, tugging it in as you go, but don't stop walking. Praise it often when it's in the right position. Once it's 100% on the lead it should be so off the lead. It helps if you work aro
  18. You'll learn nothing about british by keeping foreign finches. Greenies or even canarys but not zebras .
  19. Hard to tell from that pic mate, can't see its feet ,length of leg or back or anything. Like the colour.
  20. When I was younger, at the same time I was running dogs, I also ran for my local athletic club, track, road and cross country. Just to give an idea of my fitness standard, my times for 10k-32mns, 10mls-56mns, 20mls-2hrs,you get the picture, well I've taken dogs on long training runs, bedlington, deerhound, collie and saluki crosses. The only ones that I didn't have to stop and wait for were the saluki crosses. It might sound far fetched to you lot, but believe me it's true.
  21. They should still hatch mate, might be a bit late though, so be patient.
  22. I've lamped saluki bred dogs, they are as good as any. I believe saluki blood is useful in any working lurcher used for any purpose, all right the amount might vary, but all the superdogs I've ever come across have had some saluki in them.
