  1. It's all hypothetical anyway, a first cross is 50/50 after that, because genes are past randomly, you'll never know what percentage of anything is in the dog.
  2. That adds up to 1 and a 1/2 dogs mate. It'd have 6 legs
  3. Could have more years left than you think, not working maybe, but I've come across two very long lived lurchers in my time, one died age 26 the other 28! Unbelievable I know but there it is.
  4. i wouldn't expect anything less from you mate lol oops ! double post. I'm tired.
  5. i wouldn't expect anything less from you mate lol Don't do it often, only when needs must, it gets too stressful, lets just say lamping to dogs is a walk in the park.
  6. Blimey If you lot think lamping with 2 dogs is to much, you want to try working 2 ferrets , a dog and 2 Harris hawks single handed !
  7. Sounds like you or your mate haven,t got a clue. Best advice I can give to you , is find someone close by who knows what they're doing and get some help quick. Your either going to kill it or loose it. If you were close by I'd help you out mate, but can't advise without checking the birds condition. Mike.
  8. Romany you "think hares can evolve in a few generations" how long would you make a generation to a Hare? I have a report on a scientific study of the British brown Hare done by Surrey University. Open question to anyone: what would you think the life expectancy is of a brown Hare on average? Y.I.S Leeview 2 to 3 years, I would have thought, but when the pressure is sudden and intense, and the consequences are fatal, such as the upsurge in coursing with saluki bred dogs over the last 25 years or so, the evolution takes on the speed that can be achieved in captivity with selective breeding,
  9. In 2005 there was 2721 non native species recorded in the UK, so we are hardly living in a pristine environment are we.
  10. In my day it was called weak pasterns, but you are absolutely right. Soft and uneven surfaces are the way to go.
  11. You were right , you can't judge working ability in a show ring, your looking for good conformation and condition. It's a beauty contest, nothing more.
  12. Would have thought it was more likely to dry them out and lead to cracking.
  13. I think hares can evolve in a few generations, we used to run the fens twice or sometimes three times a week. Some places, every man and his dog knew about, Sunday mornings were like the Waterloo cup ! Now these hares were very hard to catch, only the best survived to pass on their genes to the next generation. From time to time we would stumble on places that others knew nothing about, this was obvious by the fact that the dogs would wipe the floor with the hares, simply because the weaker ones had not been weeded out, they lived to pass on their inferior genes. As a side note, the best hares
  14. Seen a whippet go over 16ft, whippets have the highest strength to weight ratio, that's why they are only marginally slower than a greyhound, even though they are much smaller. Always trained my dogs to go "over" and "under" on command, sometimes it's not safe to send them over, seen dogs bouncing of 12ft security fencing, even though they could squeeze underneath.
  15. My Dobbit hates Cabbits , he certainly stops them from shitting in the garden.
  16. I've had all rounders, good at everything, top class at nothing. Why shouldn't folk specialise. An all rounder will never be a better hare dog than a single handed hare specialist and likewise a single hand fox specialist. It's like a pentathlete, good at everything, brilliant at nothing. Horses for courses, you need to seek out what you want.
  17. I don't buy a paper, why would I, the only thing you can believe in them is the price and the date.
  18. I know mate, it's fecking shocking.
  19. If you like it and it does the job don't worry, if you want a honest opinion, it's a tad short in the neck and too upright in the shoulders, giving it that straight up look at the front, most dogs have the shoulders laid back more and the neck comes out at an angle rather than being upright. But aye it's not a show dog.
  20. Have a read of this rubbish. Crackdown on illegal hunters in Pendle 9:00am Tuesday 10th August 2010 * Print * Email * Share * Comments(7) * Photograph of the Author * By Peter Magill » Burnley chief reporter A CRACKDOWN has been launched on illegal hunters who ‘torture and torment’ rabbits on farmland. Police said trespassers have been plaguing land around Colne and Barrowford leading to complaints from landowners. Officers have now issued a warning to hunters, many of whom go armed with knives, that they are risking arrest
  21. Could have been anything ,most animals before they finally die, loose the use of their front legs and give a few final kicks with the back ones. If it was on it's front it probably pushed itself forward for a few inches before it died.
