    Couple of seasons ago I was regularly doing over 1000 miles a week, hunting in several different counties around the country over the week. These days our total mileage has dropped off a lot, but still our drive for a day or nights hunting is a pretty standard 200 miles each time. Such is life.

    Been all over country, I'd say its not been the best year. The summer promised a better season than materialised. Still caught enough to keep freezers full and make a bit of coin. But here's hoping next year is better. But then I say that every year!

    Leeview I was talking about choosing a sire for a dog, not buying a pup. As you ask however, I wanted a whippet, I didn't know anyone breeding any litters and had the fortune to see some dogs he had bred work, and there was a repeat mating out of two dogs that had produced animals I rated ...... And after thoroughly quizzing the man I took a chance. Right or wrong, it worked out for me. I'm not knocking folks choice of sire or anything else. I just find it interesting that some dogs seem to have a very good marketing campaign, and usually not one led by their owners. Similar with breed

    Some good points and I agree that sometimes you have to take folks word, if you trust them and value their judgement. But what I see a lot in here is folk saying that a dog is brilliant because they have seen other folk who they don't know and who have also never seen the dog say its brilliant on here.... And that lot are only bigging the dog up because thy heard on here it was a good dog....... Internet legends.

    How come folk recommend and rave about certain dogs to put over bitches...... That they have never actually seen work? See it a lot in here, folk saying use x dog or x dog would throw great pups for a particular job..... It's pure guess work and often way off the mark!

    Calm down pal was a joke.....I enjoy my gun license to much to lose it due to poaching a few rabbits....the day getting massive numbers is more important to me than enjoying a day out is the day I'll quit....I'm happy enough having a plod about and getting 1 or 2 for the pot..... That wasn't a dig mate! It's just once an area gets well known on here.......it tends to go down hill lol. I don't live there so it's not my problem, but from what I've heard from the lads that live up there.... It's lost it's shine.

    Why do folk think there is a certain mythical percentage or x that will do a job or quarry??? I regularly hunt and flush big woodland with dogs. I've seen a variety do it with skill, collie x's, bull x's, beddy x's, lots of various types of lurcher x lurcher bred dogs, even a whippet. It's more about the drive and brains of the dog, and how you bring it up and on. Obviously the job you have in mind in the woods, requires a dog of a certain weight and size, but I'd always go for a sturdy, shorter dog than a racier taller one. If that makes sense.     I think those two guys should be hugely commended! Keeping calm while some one is abusing you, and making gross allegations is tough. But they kept their cool, even in the face of her hysteria and got on with the job in hand.
