  1. It's how you raise em At least you won't go hungry in your dotage
  2. Hahaha And the more I hear of your lad, the more he sounds like my kind of fella. . . "the goats broke for road and kevin being kevin slipped both dogs"
  3. Cracking as ever mate. You need a house guest?
  4. Johnny - I'd say top end speed, size, strength, stamina. . . . . . And i'm not saying the whippet doesnt have those things. There are just certain limitations on the breed. . . . Of course, it's horses for courses. But then my lad has done more than I would have ever expected. But i've seen him struggling in an (unfair) situation, and realised that a lurcher purpose bred for the task in hand would be better. Does that make any sense?
  5. Cheers matey, i've got hundreds of photos of the little shit bag. . . . Someone asked about feather . . .
  6. Those would be the sandals of god matey . . .
  7. Had a walk this afternoon. . . . . found two above ground, lying up in cover. Nowt at home to ground.
  8. I whistle regular. . . . and it always makes me laugh, watching a pup get used to the boss whistling like an idiot. . . . . . when it usually means something.
  9. Some nice dogs on here. . . . seems like a handy combination. . . .
  10. Depends on the lurcher I guess. . . . but in general you're right. It's just funny how some folk seem to think ALL lurchers are tougher and more capable than ALL whippets. And I've seen enough to know that my whippet stacks up well enough against the lurcher world. . . in the grand scheme of things. Obviously a whippet at the top of his game, will still struggle against a top lurcher. But a good whippet will beat an average lurcher most of the time. . . .
  11. Soft in what sense? Mine is a tough little git, very driven, no self preservation, will tackle anything no matter how likely he is to take a hammering, always on the job . .he handles bad weather well, even with pretty much no coat, takes as much work as I can give him . . so in that sense no. But in the sense that he is of a finer stature than my lurcher, with less covering, both in terms of body mass and skin / coat, and takes more punishment, and is prone to getting himself broken. . . . yes.
  12. Fod - yer mine is leathal around birds! Had pheasants and partridge regular and the odd pigeon etc.
  13. I'll have a crack . . . It was always something I wanted to do when I was a kid. . . same as farming really. But growing up, I was always told not to, for all of the usual reasons . . . and so I followed a different route, always around it, but never doing it properly. Then a couple of years ago, I got the offer of doing it part time (or at least receive part time pay for as much time as I could give them . . .), taking over the keepering of a failing shoot. Now I'm still on that shoot, having almost quadrupled the number of birds they shoot over a season, broken the shoot records
  14. Usually I'm no fan of the 'show us your xxxxxx' cross threads. . . . But I'm really interested to see any dogs that have - collie, saluki and bull in them - a long with grey (or whippet and grey). All of those breeds, and no more.. . . . . Just interested to see what different shapes, sizes etc they are and how they have thrown (i.e toward one or other breeds) Cheers all. . . .
  15. Good lamping weather, terrible ferreting weather. And better fishing weather.....
  16. Tbh it's in my hand most of the time I'm doing my rounds, or strapped to the quad anyhow...
  17. Cheers hh. He does for me. Talked to mike, saw his dogs an saw dogs from a previous mating of the same two dogs .... And took my chance!
  18. Cheers ray - he's a strong lad, he's nearly 40lb when in shape! He'll tackle anything I let him, sometimes to his detriment!
  19. 100% mate, buy in haste, repent at leisure. . .
  20. Whats become apparent from reading this, is that some parents just buy things for their kids, and others do things with them and show things to them.
