A fen is a snap back trap, if you google it you will see. If placed in wooden tunnels (they must be covered by law) a long likely runs, they prove to be pretty effective, as rats love taking a 'safe; sheltered route somewhere, I also usually scatter a little wheat on the pan, and bobs your uncle. Maybe a bit more understanding of the scale and type of your problem might help? There is also a pest control section somewhere which might get you more help? Personally i'd be going for the last option, getting the smoker, and have some anarchic fun with the terriers It's a great way t

I know very little about rifles, they have never really interested me, being a dog man. However, i'm needing to get a .22 and probably a .243 for work. So I was after some advice on a decent, yet reasonably priced choice of the above. Guns would need to be robust and durable, i'm hard on gear I'm not after anything all singing, all dancing, just a tool to do a job well. I'll probably buy new. Cheers lads, ID.

They can do the job. But you would be better either getting a proper pestie in. Or putting down some fens in tunnels your self or bait boxes. Or getting a lad with a couple of terriers and a smoker in.

Crackers mate, your lads pup is a real eye catcher, but both look strong and bright Same way bred as my bitch, but the sire and dam were the other way round, if that makes sense . . .

Haha nice one ow. I told you it was going to be worth it! I'm about tomorrow if you fancy a mooch?

Folk Moaning About The Lack Of Quality Working Collie Grey Pups
Ideation replied to TOMO's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Can think of four well bred, collie based litters in the last year that were on here, that the lads really struggled to sell. . . . . . despite all the folk on here moaning about them being scarce. -
Land. . . . . they ain't gonna make any more of it. Or gold. . . . . or drugs.

Sprinters train by jogging to.

If you think that was being 'jumped on' you need to relax. The lad just posted that he assumed that you had removed the tunnels. . . . so no other smart arse could have a crack. And to keep the antis at bay lol.

Dogs That Don't Make The Grade Or Jack.
Ideation replied to Dranny GLC's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Remember a lad I know getting given a bitch that was a jacker on fox, wouldn't touch them, no chance . . . . . should get the bullet blah blah. . . . . but you can have her for rabbiting. Anyway. . . . . within the month she was killing foxes and never looked back. Just don't think she fancied getting bitten for a dick head. Dogs are funny things. . . . . knew a lad who bought a terrier. . . . 100% earth dog. Wouldn't go to ground for him, just looked at the hole and walked away. Rang the seller irate. . . . seller came to see him, they took the dog out. . . . dog flew straight -
Aye mine have a pretty easy time over the summer, lounging around the yard and garden, long mooches every day either in the woods or a long the river. Bit of tree rat bashing or mink hunting now and again. . . . lots of exploring. They can run as much or as little as they want. They do spend quite a few hours trotting about behind the quad and this tends to keep them fit enough. As the birds come in in July, they are out every morning about 4 am for an hour or two quad chasing and then I build them up with road walking, running behind the quad, and lambing until they are good to go.

Dogs That Don't Make The Grade Or Jack.
Ideation replied to Dranny GLC's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You said it yourself. . . . . . "you know lads that go through loads of dogs" Now isn't it funny that the type of lads that often seem to get 'jackers'. . . . . . seem to get loads of them? Does that not tell you something? IMO half the dogs pts for being a jacker, would never have jacked with different owner.- 80 replies

Brilliant photo mate!

Similar time with any dog I think, to get it to a real goo standard. It takes 2 years to make a dog, whatever the breed. But the amount of precision that goes into a top spaniel is insane, and the failure rate is high. I've seen some very good dogs and some very poor dogs...... I've seen some very well bred dogs ruined. But I'll tell you what I don't think I've seen a poorly bred dog make the top grades. In any breed, blood is everything. You will get plenty of decent enough dogs that are of average breeding, and to be honest most of the dogs with all the ftchs in them etc are stil

The whippet has the knack. . . . he either catches them himself on the ground, or follows them until they get to a dry or some cover around a tree and marks them until I can shoot them down for him.

While I totally agree in many respects. . . . . just playing devils advocate. . . . An individual horse is no more replaceable than an individual human. If being totally emotionless. . . . the burden of replacing a jockey. . . . . . Is probably far easier than replacing a prime, top running, race horse. Plenty of people around, and they are pretty easy to make more of. . . . . . Obviously MY family are more important to me than an animal. . . . But in general? Plenty of occasions where i've found the death of an animal I didn't know sadder and a greater tragedy than

Yer having looked around we've realised that it's pretty cheap. But I think she wants to get a few out there and get the ball rolling. . . . . If she did get some work coming in, i'd imagine the prices would have to rise.

Sounds like he's been getting raped by his mate.
-
Got her to have a crack at doing some other animals other than dogs . . .
-
Probably not as good at running as the whippet and not as good at working cover as the spaniel

I suppose that I you have genuine, truthful papers you can go back in the dogs line when you want to breed and you also may have a better idea of the working capabilities of past gens. Obviously you could know all of that without papers if you know well the line the dog comes from. I don't see the harm in papers, but they won't make a poor dog any better, that's for sure, and just because it's great grandma was a ftch doesn't mean it's worth breeding off....... But some folk seem anti papers almost as if they just want to prove how 'real' they are,
