  1. BAW - do folk talk to you in the real world? lol.
  2. Sounds excellent mate! You'll have to get down here in the season
  3. As long as you can keep her steady, the rest will come natural. That's the biggest thing, steadiness, especially when there are other dogs, people, birds, guns etc all over the place lol. Happy days ahead matey!
  4. Handy adition to any house mate. And you can earn a bit of coin in the season beating etc.
  5. No, but to be honest, I have said that in the future, I'll let the mrs have one that lives outside around the barns etc, just so that I can break the dogs to them. Perfect example of the need - my boss's wife has one, an old, blind cat that just lounges around in their garden. . . .. which happens to be right in the middle of the shoot. The dog isn't scared of dogs, as all his are broken, so it wouldn't run (even if it could), if my lot killed that cat, i'd lose both a job and about 1500 acres of land to work my dogs on. . . . . No brainer really!
  6. RAW I can tell your nuts are sore mate It's been an interesting discussion, but ultimately of course every man will have different standards, which are effected by a huge range of different circumstances, needs, likes, dislikes etc. But at the end of the day, the standard of dog you keep isn't so important. . . . . as long as when you judge them, you're honest with yourself and others.
  7. It's got nothing to do with anything other than economics!
  8. Define control? Can its owner call it off mid attack? That would be interesting to know. Also depends I guess if the dog is like it with everyone or just strangers? And if the dog lives as part of the family or just runs about as a guard when no ones there?
  9. Seems like we might just get a bit of luck in our small country! Godbless the hill farmers!
  10. Not everyone has the opportunity to break their dogs to cats! I don't know anyone who has one. Agreed, it's a bollock ache because of what you said and also because many farmers etc have them.
  11. Right....... So a dog, even though its owners present, is fully under control even though its ripping your throat out cos you didn't know the golden rule? HAW HAW HAW, quality that. No, it's job is to guard from intruders, guests aren't f*****g intruders and if the dog can't be trained to recognize the difference then it ain't under control. Bit busy to entertain you today. . . . But no i'd say, if you came in without an introduction or being 'allowed' in. . . . . you are an intruder, in the dogs eyes. So that's just the way the cookie crumbles. How many folks have their dogs robbe

  13. It's sad that the 'rat killers' will probably get more grief than those who starved the lurcher!
  14. Right, Raw, i've sharpened my pitchfork and made a few burning brands. . . . . when we off?
  15. Have you no seen HM's cape? My old man always said to me. . . . . always bet on the man with a cape. If he's bold enough to wear it. . . . he must be fecking hard!
  16. Cheers lads! You know me Malc. . . always busy! The pigs are a decent size, momma pig is a beast! And yep, they are so much happier being able to wander about the place rooting and foraging. And yes they had some strawberries NL - Still got her, but she's no pup now.
  17. Love bouldering mate, looks a cracking day!
  18. You got a job for the daily mail Baw? How is the dog a danger to society? Is it regularly let loose to run about in public? And actually just how many herding or protection type dogs, owned by sensible folk, are really in the papers each week killing folk? Or is it more chavs with bull breeds that have been untrained and poorly handled etc etc. It's a bit of an assumption to say the dog is not fully under control. . . . if he can be let into the room with you when you are there, but takes umbridge when someone enters the house who isn't part of the 'pack'. It's a guard do
  19. Go with whoever makes the best cuppa. In all seriousness, have a think what you want to do, and what the sire/dam do. . . . . and pick a put that's parents do what you want the pup to do, to a high standard. If they are both the same, just go see both litters and see what pup jumps out at you.
  20. That's a very good point. I expect some things in some of my dogs that would make them useless to another man. And I see some 'good dogs' on here that really are for what their owners use them for. . . . but they would be deck all use to me! So I guess sometimes a good dog is only a good dog if seen by a man who values that particular skill set. One thing I do really believe is that a lot of folk mistake 'good' dogs for 'exceptional' dogs. And there is a difference. . . . . and it's only by seeing one that really is exceptional that you can get a perspective on how good the oth
  21. I don't see nowt wrong with trying to better what you've got, but an obsession with having better than everyone else I find a wee bit odd. That's where the bullshit comes in! I've never met a good dog man who was much concerned with what other folk had.
