  1. I reckon so, also I think they also spend so much time away from anything human smelling, living out on the hill and in the forest. The worst are also the ones in the forest, so I guess it's because the dogs are not mentally prepared for a sheep, whereas a lot of the places we go, they just look through them as they are every where. I've had a couple of really 'proud' moments with the whippet around stock, over the last season, one time, on the lamp, he was running a bunny and it went through a hedge into a field full of sheep, followed by the dog. . . the sheep panicked. . . a couple of h
  2. Just seen this Haymin. Really glad you like your painting mate She's got a fair talent, and i'm really happy folk like what she has done for them, I know she has been a bit nervous about the whole thing I've just read her the comments and she is made up Maybe I'll be able to retire and she can keep me
  3. i have been thinking about getting a Whippet bitch to put my Saluki Greyhound over, but all the boys by me have said that they're legs are too weak to run on the rugged welsh landscape, shows how much they know about working a whippet i suppose I've run mine in both the rugged welsh land scape and the dales, and one of our bits of there we call the graveyard . . . . And he did just fine. In fact better than some lurchers. . . .
  4. Can't be much worse than it was in some industrial towns in the past matey. Water will be what goes first!
  5. It's very legal. Two dogs. . . . flushing
  6. If any one wants to invite me out flushing some munty in woodland . . . . . . i'd be a very happy chappy
  7. I think the original post was about whippets, questioning the difference between an 18" whip and a 21/22 " whip. Saying . . . . well some people like 24/25/26/27/38 " lurchers and an 18" whippet just cant compare to them. . . . . . . . . . is stating the fecking obvious!!!!
  8. Funnily enough was thinking the exact same, got loads bumbling around the plants and trees. I wonder what came first, the bumble bee, or the world bumble? Because they really do bumble about.
  9. Yep, i've had it a lot matey. We see sheep here pretty much every day, and the dogs are around them all of the time, both in the field, and in barns etc. However, some sheep, just don't look like, act or smell like sheep. We get a lot of hill sheep, which are semi wild, and often sheep in the forestry blocks which are pretty much feral, the dogs put them up, and they jump out of the cover in ones or twos and go bouncing off through the bracken and gorse, often barely sighted by the dogs. And they are dark coloured. It sets the dogs off and quite often they give a bit of a chase, until
  10. he does the job you want ,and ok jai by the sound of it. What do you think grews w/g's they prob only be bit bigger and prob near as fast as your dog , but maybe bit tougher being a hybrid , you ever fancied 1 jai ? Aye he's not bad for a whippet. With him i've taken r/h/f/d (obviously within the relevant laws) as well as rats, mink, squirrels, pheasant, partridge etc. Not a world beater maybe, but I think he punches above his weight (or height), and for me his best feature . . . . . is he can hunt like f**k! And he's one hell of a driven little dog. I do like grews ray .
  11. Oh..... Right not a Muslim then lol. Better luck next time stewie!
  12. As we're talking about whippets and not whippets vs lurchers . . . . . some of the comments are a bit off topic. So back to the whippet thing . . . . I hate to be different from everyone. . . . . but in all honestly, I don't think i'd kennel a whippet under 20" . . . . in fact i'd be reluctant to kennel one under 21.5 ". My current whippet is 22" tts and weighs around 18 Kilo, or just under 40lb. He pretty much handles everything I ask of him, and has done some things I would never have thought possible. He does also like to get himself in situations where he is out matched. .
  13. Haha, yer, quite funny that your ferrets ended up with my good mate! I would imagine if there is some ferreting to be done for pest control, i'll be there He did mention it before
  14. BRY - You will know the land. Drive up to the saw bench and its to your left as you go up the track from the lay-by.
  15. Aye, I uncovered a water trough under some brambles. . . . . and its connected to a pipe. . . which when i emptied the tank . . . .refilled it. So f**k knows who's paying for it . . . if anyone? No one has used the field in maybe 15 years, and I doubt there has been a bill in that time. . . . so fingers crossed As for electricity . . . . . there is a line that runs through some near by woods, so i'll have to make some enquires. I've also got my eye on a little piece of woodland thats sandwiched between my land and the road, it's privately owned, and not really used, so I might be abl
  16. Cheers T.C. Well,as you say, i'm young and inventive, and i'm game to learn new skills, so we shall see. Also, the mrs is a great help Already looking at plans for a smoke house as well
  17. Aye, the pole barn will be an adapted version, with walls, it has to be to keep the wind / rain out. Most likely either box profile, or tin sheeting, painted green. The height being considered at the moment is a roof that slopes from about 9 foot at the front, back to about 12 foot at the back. I'd ideally like taller, but there are limiting factors . . . . So i'm making it 30 feet (possibly more) long, and 20 foot (again, maybe more wide), with the ability to add more poles, and re wall it, to increase the size. It will pretty much be all hand done, using a petrol mixer, a chain saw,
