Nice one mate - looks good, should work a treat!

if your bored you could make a catch alive trap for the fox. Quite a fun project.

I wouldn't use the 6 ply. It probably wont hold and even if it did it wouldnt be humane. . . . it's snap at some point possibly sunk into the neck. Make a decision what you want to snare and use the right tools for the job. Nothing wrong with snaring fox, but use fox snares. Look on google images for pics of fox prints and compare them. Make sure you know what crosses your land - i.e is it possible that it IS a small dog or a cat or other domestic animal. Check it's not badger. Do you know if there is a earth on your land? Do you find only rabbit heads left in your snares?

Super si - your looking for prints (especially now in the snow), the stench of fox, red fur on fences etc and a larger than rabbit game trail . . . . . at least thats what i look for, im sure there are more signs. O and of course fox kills. I find it better to set on the trail leading up to or away from fence. Hope that helps. Jai.

To be honest i just use bloody great long pieces of metal. . . . . . i think they were part of a fence once upon a time. They are strong as f**k, and when bent into a hoop at one end (takes some doing) and cut to about a couple of feet and driven into the ground . . . . . no ones getting away!

Ha Ha - i been thinking the same thing about the fox, there were tracks all over and a heavy smell so tomorrow when i check the rabbits i might set a few! Where abouts in the west are you?
-
I went around one of my permissions today and placed some fence snares. We got about a foot of snow and every so often, all along the fences there are scrapes where the rabbits have dug down to the grass and made a kinda channel under the fence, by the tracks around these it looks like a lot of rabbits are using the channels . . . . . needles to say i laid the wires and shall see what they yield in the morning. Two downsides - like the one said not worth snaring public places / places you dont have permission - anyone passing will see your trail (that keep going up to the fence and then mo

Hey man - what make up are the dogs? the one on the left in the first pic has got a head like a bucket! Good work! You seem to get some pretty big hauls - how many pigs are around and how large an area do you hunt?

It was me!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for kicking this post off matey! So much info and so many pics. Thanks guys!

Great Pics!

The pipe thing is essential. Also (and some people have laughed at this) whenever i feed my ferrets i make the same noise, i guess any noise would work but i make a kinda sucking, whistling noise with my lips. I do this whenever its food time for them and the come running and i pick them up, handle and check them over and let them feed. When out ferreting, if they are down in the hole messing about and i want to go i make the same noise and they come running (most of the time), works with lay ups as well, but i use small jills so this doesn't happen so much. Nothing to lose by trying it

My neighbour had a Magpie that he kept about the house . . . . he taught it to count! You could give it a number and it'd tap it out for you.

Your right! There are A LOT of stupid points being made in this argument! ;-)

AYe man i think we agree on a lot. My grandfather led Gurkhas for many years in the Indian army. But it's just this 'agree to live by our rules' shite. I mean that bit of paper would make them agree to not hunt hare or fox with dogs. But then . . . . well look around you. And yes i have suffered some of the stuff you talk about and i do really help those kids and make a big difference imo. I really don't think you can lay the blame for our f****d up country at my feet. Anyway lets stop arguing - i'm off hunting!

Yer, well i don't call myself a hippy but i get called one a fair bit by others. It's because i DO have long hair and a beard, and i am pretty liberal, and hold quite a few left-wing views i guess, although i'm a realist so i don't subscribe to the more extreme ones. I also get called a hippy because i love the out doors, i love the natural world, and that includes hunting. I was brought up on it, my familly has always got most of its food from the land. We have really big well organised veg gardens, a poly tunnel, chickens and until recently had about 100 sheep. My dad also spent a lot of

Interesting that now we are suddenly talking about islam? I thought it was immigration? No i havn't been in the forces. I'm sorry, my bad. I do however pay tax. I work in a really violent inner city school as a youth worker trying to get the 11-17 year olds i work with to stop taking drugs, stabbing each other and getting pregnant. When i'm not doing that i council them through the bullying, sexual abuse, violence etc that they have to deal with in school and at home. Sitting with an 11 year old girl who tells you she smokes, drinks, fucks and takes drugs and gets beaten up / sexually abu

I'm actually about as anti-labour as you can get and not be an extremist. To be fair most political parties are fairly f*ucking useless and run by idiots. I agree with a lot of the points but its just a bit of a cliche that all hunters are conservative, anti-immigration etc. I'm 25, a bit of a hippy and have hunted all my life. Immigration is a complicated issue and to simplify it to 'send them all home' or 'throw them in the sea' just comes across as naive. Yes a lot of folk who get here probably shouldnt stay, but if i ever have to flee the country i live in because of some violent oppressio

Amazing photos matey - some of the best i've seen and a couple of very nice dogs! A good day well deserved!

I'll just add that i don't want any C*nts living in this country - I don't want Polish c*nts, Thai c*nts, Indian c*nts or BRITISH C*NTS! Nice, friendly intelligent people are welcome no matter their colour, race or religion. Small minded, bigoted idiots should f*ck off elsewhere. Maybe we could have a one in one out system?

If they could spell immigration i'd let them in and kick you out.

Simple Question - Anyone had a pup from Mike Brown? How's it going?
-
As has been said before it's all about picking good working lines for the type of dog that suits what you want to do and the land you want to do it on and then putting in the time and effort from when it's a pup to achieve a bond with it and to teach it the task you want it to perform. I know people do buy good adult dogs and do have a lot of success with them, but personally i would never buy anything older than about 8 weeks, by the time it gets out hunting i want that dog to worship me and hunt with me and for me. Remember all we are doing is making a pack (we're the leader) and for a p
